END NOTES Dear Patron of the Arts, Ten years have come and gone since the first time we shared the tale of the Demon Barber on a Chaminade stage. Back then, we staged our stories on steel decks mounted together in the Bob Hope Center, sharing one green room, building the sets in the cafeteria after school and adding caution tape to keep students from eating their lunch on it during the day, but, still removing French fries and wiping off ketchup stains. The creativity then, as now, was boundless, the practical elements then were limited, the joy in the process then and now… priceless. Why return to share this cautionary tragic tale of love lost and vengeance? Because like then, we have extraordinary students who are able to handle this material with maturity, humor, grace, and have the vocal ability and an understanding of the demanding process of the acting in this play with music. Stephen Sondheim is a musical theatre legend for a reason--- this is one of the reasons. Sweeney Todd is one of the most brilliant musicals ever written--- flawless—beautiful musical score, brilliant book, compelling characters all weaved together into a world created to take us away to a place where we can be swept away into someone else’s story. This is what theatre was created to do! We are beyond thankful for our stellar creative team! In a short amount of time, our village has been able to come together to create this world of late 1800s London and we could not do it without our fearless technical director, Mike Davis and his trusty shop assistant Brother Tom Oles and Tracy Lundy for lending a hand and an ear; Jeff McLaughlin, our fantastic set and lighting designer who we are blessed to have come back year after year; the amazing Lacey Anzelc guiding our scenic crew with her scenic art skills for thirteen years; Dan Redfeld, our very own Maestro, beautifully guiding the vocals and conducting our awesome orchestra; Luis Ramirez and his beautiful wig work and new to our team this year, alum Joel Loth as shop apprentice! Also new to our team this year, our dedicated choreographer, the gifted Michelle Elkin and her sweet assistant Madison AiSanaye. We are forever grateful to our Drama Mamas and parents who feed and support our wonderful, hardworking Players and our Administrators and Staff for all of their support of our Drama program. We are blessed with a tremendous village here at Chaminade! We would like to take this opportunity to thank our Principal, Brother Tom Fahy for all of his support over the years. He will always be VIP for all performances! And seniors… we love you and wish you all a fantastic final production and the very best that life can offer as you head off to the next step in your journey. Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to The Chaminade Players. So, now… attend the tale of Sweeney Todd 2020. It’s time. Yours in the Arts, Yvette Lawrence Bishop Director of Performing Arts Drama Director
