Newsletter Spotlight! Welcome our new Fire Marshal, Aaron Huckstep!
In case you missed Aaron's About Me...
Hi everyone, I'm Aaron Huckstep, your new Fire Marshal for the City of Chandler. My family and I moved here from Washington State (Seattle area). My family includes my wife of 18 years and our 2 teenage daughters, Kailey (17) and Kyliah (16). In our spare time we enjoy spending time together outdoors. I have 25 years of fire service experience, which began when I graduated from high school as a resident volunteer firefighter. I was hired as a professional firefighter for the City of Walla Walla in 2012 and held positions as Firefighter, Engineer, and acting Captain. In 2012, for more family opportunities my family and I accepted a lateral transfer to the Seattle area and held positions as Firefighter, Acting Lt./ Acting Captain, Fire Inspector, Deputy Fire Marshal, and Assistant Fire Marshal. Our family is very excited to see the sun again ans I am honored to say that I am now a part of Chandler Fire. I am looking forward to meeting and working with the members of Chandler Fire and the community of Chandler. 1

YEAR IN REVIEWYEAR IN REVIEW I think we can all agree that 2020 was the greatest year ever, and we can definitely use a repeat…said no one, ever! The year of 2020 has proven to be one of the most challenging years of the CR Unit to date. From the Covid-19 pandemic, to low/minimal staffing as a result and both the mental and physical stress of working under a pandemic, it proved to be an arduous task that took its toll at times. Under all the challenges that working through a pandemic brought, the Unit's greatest challenge was delivering compassionate, empathetic care behind a mask. This much-needed safety measure proved to be a unique implication for social work practice within the crisis setting. But just like a lot of trials of life, this proved the resiliency of not only the Unit but the incredible community we serve. It has been extremely heartwarming to see how the community adapted to these measures, and how our compassionate service delivery was soon being felt through our N95 masks, protective goggles, and gowns. Even “social distancing” proved to be next to impossible when the most needed element in the time of crisis is human connectedness, not distance. This pandemic has brought much heart ache, stress (be it mentally and emotionally), and even the illness itself to some. Through it all, many other great things ensued, greater camaraderie amongst the Unit, fire crews and the Chandler Police Department, as well as a community that came together and complied to keep one another safe. So, even though we are still living the effects of this horrible pandemic, it helps to be a part of a great Department and community to help get through it.
