President’s Message

Jay Kennihan, President

nd quickly through February, wow that was fast! Our committee chairs are in the process of staffing their respective committees; it is not too late sign up. If you have put your name in to be considered but you haven’t heard from anyone, pop me an email and I’ll make sure your name gets in front of the right folks. Our 911 projects are coming along nicely; the tennis hard courts are finished with the addition of pickleball lines, the pool renovation project is on schedule despite the crazy weather, the installation of our custom designed chiller system for the HVAC is progressing nicely and the retrofitting of the pump system for the golf course irrigation is underway. A thank you to Mark Attwood, chair of the HVAC committee, as well as the members assisting him with that specific project; I know we are all thankful for their tireless efforts. There will be new opportunities in membership recruiting this year, as Lou Tortora and his committee are fine tuning this year’s plan. I suspect, once the board signs off on the plan, you will be notified via email about what is new for 2016. No two ways about it, the assessment affected our numbers in a way we were not anticipating. That’s okay, slow and steady wins this race and I am confident we will be successful this year and in the years ahead in getting our numbers back to where they need to be. The plans are solid and for this year, aggressive; their success depends largely on our membership’s efforts in helping grow our membership roster. After all, it’s our club so let’s fill it with our friends! The easiest way to assist in these efforts is simply to ask yourself, who do I know that would enjoy what we have here at CHCC? Give that name to Mike Blazer, our GM, and let Mike and his staff begin the invitation process. Know also your referral will be held in the strictest of confidence. A favor please, this is something that the club needs your help with. Don’t wait for someone else to take up the charge, I need you onboard with this, so send that referral over to Mike and let’s grow together! Mike Blazer’s email is mblazer@chapelhill-cc.com Look for big things coming from all our committees, from social to golf, pool to tennis, as each and every one of our committee chairs are determined to deliver a superior experience here at the CHCC. We are going from good to great and you will be able to see these improvements as we ramp up 2016. I want to hear from you, remember- good, bad, not so good, great, all comments about our club are important to me, JayKennihan@chapelhillrealty.com. See you on campus! - Jay Kennihan

Pickleball at CHCC!

W

ith our Hard Courts newly resurfaced and lined, we have jumped on board with the fastest growing racquet sport in America with Pickleball at CHCC! All 4 of our hard courts are lined for pickleball with a dark blue line so not to be distracting when playing tennis. The tennis net will have to be lowered only 2 inches when playing, so please be sure to check in with the tennis staff before playing. The tennis shop also has paddles and balls for you to use, please feel free to call the shop to reserve your court and equipment and get out there and play! Rules are also posted on the hard courts.

The Basics

1. A fun sport that combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. 2. Played both indoors or outdoors on a badminton-sized court and a slightly modified tennis net. 3. Played with a paddle and a plastic ball. This is a Great sport to work on your tennis volleys, slice, half volleys and touch.

Adult Spring Team Challenge

Saturday, April 9: 9:00AM-1:00PM

T

his team event, our most popular for years now, can make you, an ordinary tennis player feel like one of the members of the Davis Cup team! Every game you and your partner win is good for the team, and the fate of the team can rely on your final doubles match! The uniqueness of the format is the reason for the popularity of this event. We hope to have up to six teams, with 3 men and 3 women per team. On each team there are 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0 or 4.0+ players. Each round will consist of all doubles (men’s, women’s and mixed) and you will play with each of your teammates before the event is over. The most consistent team each year ends up in victory lane. What makes this event so special is that all different levels of players are represented on each team and it’s a great way to mix it up with your fellow CHCC members! The cost is $35 for each player (Includes lunch, on court refreshments, awards, and balls). Please sign up in the Tennis Pro Shop or e-mail Lindsay at lbenton@chapelhill-cc.com or Jaime at jmontalvo@ chapelhill-cc.com.
