The Chapel Yearbook is a project designed by students for the school community. The students invested a lot of time and energy to plan, create and produce the pages in an attempt to capture this year’s best moments, memories and events.
This year the seniors chose Superheroes and Comics as the yearbook theme. Our team enjoyed the process of researching fun facts about the origins of superheroes, uncovering stories from behind the scenes concerning comic book authors and also creating templates within the comic world criteria. They based their research on the websites www.bromygod.com, listverse.com and foreverlolz.com. We also interviewed the elementary classes to find out who their favorite superhero was, what superpower they would like to have and their preferred comic books.
The yearbook pages aim to inspire the whole community to tap into their own inner strengths. After all, anyone can unleash the hero within!

I’ve been at Chapel since Pre-I. A huge part of my life took part of my life took place at this school. I am who I am because of this school. With teachers that made me laugh, those who taught me about real life and not just school stu , those who coached me, those who talk about music, and even one who came up with the name I’m called even today. With friends who are weird with me, love me for myself, those who see huge freaking birds, those who make pizza, those who sleep in the toilet, those who I’ve travelled countless times with, those who grew up with me, those who can make me have fun in just 30 seconds, those who’ve seen me in 1949, those who left, those who got here in the end, and those who came back. Who would have known that 5 years would go by so fast? Throughout these years so many things have changed. But if there is one thing that I regret is not showing how much I CARE and LOVE my friends. It’s almost impossible to summarize my twelve years in Chapel. I just wanted to thank all my teachers, friends and family for all the support you’ve given me throughout these years. To all my friends…. The day has nally come. I would never have imagined how fast time would y by and that this day would nally arrive. There is a universal truth we all have to face, whether we want to or not, everything eventually ends. As much as I’ve looked forward to this day, I’ve always disliked endings. Last day of summer, the nal chapter of a great book, saying good bye to a close friend. But endings are inevitable, leaves fall, you close the book. You say goodbye. Now I say goodbye to everything that was familiar, everything that was comfortable. I will miss the thrown away conversations, the dreams I had and the times I shared with you guys. I will even miss the tears, the times of anxiety, the day before weekends, end of the years… the friendship we shared. I’ve always thought friendship lasted forever, today I am no longer sure of this. Soon we will all be in di erent places may it be because of destiny, family, college or even some misunderstanding, life continues, but who knows we might still meet each other… Days, months, years will go by until maintaining contact will become harder and harder. Primeiramente eu gostaria de agradecer e reconhecer todo o esforço que os meus pais tem feito por mim. Mãe, Pai, eu sei que vocês tiveram que deixar em segundo plano muitas ideias e viagens como algo secundário para me manter em escolas internacionais durante as nossas mudanças por ai. Também gostaria de me certi car que vocês saibam que apesar de não demonstrar isto sempre, eu sou grato por todo esse sacrifício, todo esse amor, e apoio que vocês tem me dado durante os anos. Arturo all the irony we threw out there during class and people wouldn’t understand, calling us rude and racists, fun times. Athur all the fun times and jokes we threw together, never going to forget those.
After moving to four di erent countries and being in ve di erent schools, I reckoned that Chapel would be the same, no di erence and the same type of individuals. However, as soon as I got here all the stereotypes and ideas I had about this school were shattered. I have never met such a complex and di erent combination of people like in Class of 2015. It seemed to me that the combination present in the class would never work, yet it did, and these people gave me some of the best 2 years of my life.
So a A. we didn’t spend much time together, but when we did it was always fun, not to mention when Gio was around talking about, well there is no other way to put it, Gio stu . Rodrigo U. you are a genius, really friendly, and a great friend to me.
Bianca all the discussions about our respective soccer teams, they were fun, but even better, we didn’t lose our friendship.
Karina, I don’t think there are enough words for me to talk about you, perhaps the most important person I have ever come across throughout all the moves I have done, I really hope we keep in contact; I don’t think I will ever come across someone as impacting in my life as you have been and will continue to be. There are somethings that I couldn’t have done without you. You were one of the few people whose opinion I was always looking forward to, your smile and advice were two things I couldn’t spend a single day without, I counted the hours to be close to you again during our vacations. Debora, although we often argued, in a friendly manner, I’m really happy I met you, although calling me at 3 am to have your chem questions answered, isn’t really something I look forward to.
Linn getting to meet you and survive through our year 1 chem class was very interesting, we had lots of fun, deep conversations about relationships and more importantly, we became great friends along the way. Pri you quickly went from being unknown to me to becoming one of my best friends and someone I could rely the most on for anything.
Thanks for being there for me all the time. Girlany whether in English or Español, we got along very well, similarities along our ideas and interests allowed us to get along very quickly and we were in fact very good friends. I really like spending time with you.

Well hello there! Didn’t fancy have you reading this. Thank you for taking your time to read this attempt at a memoir of my last academic year and the new friends I made throughout this year. If you’ve read some of the other pages, you might already have expectations on what I have written in here. I’ll start o by disappointing you. I shall do this in an organised fashion, by dividing things into di erent categories so that unfairness and favouritism is left behind. To begin with, I’d like to thank every single person in high school in my time, and even before. Sure, I probably don’t know your name, but you undoubtedly made my time there unique, to say the least. It literally couldn’t have been the same without you. So thank you. Thank you for being the subject of a conversation without your knowledge, for being the target of a lost smile, for making me late for classes by standing in the way or many other simple, but constant happenings. Second, a shout out to all the sta working at Chapel. Damn you guys are good. I salute you for all your services, them being security, cooking, cleaning, maintenance, administration, etc. Without you, not only my time at Chapel would have been di erent, it simply couldn’t have happened.
I’m not sure where exactly to t this group, if the latter or the next one, so I’ll just seclude them from the others: Teachers. Well, it kinda goes without saying, but I feel like I have to state this here. I learned a lot from you. Ha ha, funny. But seriously, I’m not speaking of language terms, ways of knowing, derivatives or mitochondrion, I’m talking about the kind of stu that one can only learn from another being. No book or tutorial could have come near to transmiting all that. All the jokes, conversations, arguments, singing, threshing wheat, and sometimes (who would have thought) actual classes, all those moments helped shape me as a person and will help me cope with other situations that I may or may not encounter. I guess after such little time, to have bonded so well with most of you shows how much I appreciate you. I have no way of thanking you enough for all you’ve done, so maybe read this paragraph twice or thrice. That’ll help get my point across. Anyways, going back to my obvious statement up there, I hope that to you, that statement could perhaps say that “I have learned a lot with you”. Now to my dear friends: it doesn’t matter for how long we’ve known each other, how much we’ve talked to each other, if we hang out much or not. I appreciate your company every day. In or out of Chapel. I know we’ll soon depart our own ways, and seeing each other will be more of a hassle than I’d like (who’s up for Skype?), and that saddens me in a way I can’t even describe. But hey, that’s a good thing. Sure, seeing each other everyday is great, but the fact that we get to expand our knowledge in areas we are personally interested in, make new friends, see the world, experience new things, mature our personality and start our own career only adds up to how amazing it is going to be when we see each other again. Matar a saudade, tell stories, remember moments and make new memories. It’ll be great. So my message to you all is: don’t be sad. love you all, and am extremely thankful for everything that you did to me. You might not even realise it and think I’m speaking to someone else, I’m not. During these six years as a Chapel student, I learned many things beyond the usual/regular subjects. I have spent this time growing up and making decisions regarding what I wanted for my future, and now this future has become my present. Chapel was a very important chapter in my life, but I know that there is still a lot to come. Thank you mom and dad for giving me the opportunity to study in an international school. I can now travel to countless places around the world and interact with di erent cultures. Thank you so much for giving me the support I needed to follow my dreams… I couldn’t wish for better parents. With you I learned that taking risks is better than watching my life go by. Just like mom always says: “O ´não´ você já tem.”
I also want to thank my classmates, friends, and teachers for making these six years unforgettable. All of you have made a change in my life, even if it was a slight one. You came up to me, and stuck with me, and stood there for everything I ever needed, and I think I did the same, even though some things happened along the way. You are very tight man, you know, you are a brother to me, and I know we have very memorable moments, moments that will keep us from growing apart after we graduate and you stay in Brazil and I go to the US for college. If I could have a superpower it
My gratitude towards the time I spent at this school is far too wide to be kept private to some people; it would be therefore impossible to write to so many of them in such short space. The lessons learned, friendships made, emotional upheavals faced, all those made me grow more as a human being than I could have possibly imagined when rst walking through this school’s gates. Lao Tzu once wrote, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step;” if, looking back now, I know this to be true, my rst step towards studying in this school was surely unaware of how meaningful that starting journey would be to me.
À minha família, serei eterna e profundamente grato pelo imenso apoio dado desde meus primeiros anos. Não digo incondicional, pois considero que há momentos em que crítica e repreensão valem mais do que um mero apoio. E os agradeço por, também nestes momentos, vocês me induzirem àquilo que me traria o maior bem. Sem as minhas diversas conjunturas familiares, sem os seus desdobramentos e sem seu apoio, eu não estaria aqui me formando; que dirá crescido do modo como pude fazê-lo! I cannot put to words how much the school faculty meant to me, and how much it made my time at Chapel all the better. More than teachers, you have also been friends. More than lectures, you have given me advice and support and would never fail to put a smile on my face. You have taught me much more than the area of knowledge your classes were about, and I will be forever grateful for that (as well as for the friendships forged out of all that). Now as for my friends, whether graduated, graduating or soon to be, my thanks come in their most genuine form; after all, if one saw the person I used to be when I rst met all of you and the one I am now, they would likely wonder what caused me to change so profoundly. If today I have gained con dence to stand up for my beliefs and a cause of my own, it was because you have allowed me to do so without restraints. If today I can lift my head up and be proud of who I am, it was because you never failed to support me being myself. But it was not just that. If the ends made me grow and really stand up for the person I was, the means de nitely made the whole journey more agreeable. All of the moments we spent together, whether concerning bathroom door locks, apparitions in a beach house or hours-long ranting phone calls, have made my days brighter and made me prouder of being where I was with whom I was. Finally, it was you who freed me from the cocoon I once lived and helped me emancipate myself; and I’ll be forever grateful for this role you played in my life. It has not always been good. Or not always been the way I wanted it to be. But that is what made the whole journey more meaningful, and de nitely more enriching. My criticisms come from growth; so do my praises. Most de nitely, my thanks are but an acknowledgement that, without my time spent at this school, I would be a
completely di erent person. And one I would not like as much to be as the one I can say I am today.
As we now walk separate paths and move on with our lives, it should not mean that by growing distant we would grow apart. I could try and make conjectures about how our lives will be and how close I will be to each of you, but what good would that make? Instead of wondering, I’d much rather live it up and make it all worthwhile. After all, as Alan Kay said, “the best way to predict the future is to invent it.”

A united student body is one of the most important concepts that STUCO strives for. Since the beginning of the year, the executives and the advisor have worked together to lead a group of thirty proactive students to put on amazing events with the focus of bringing our students closer together. Every semester, events such as the Pep-Rally, the Scavenger Hunt and the Spirit Week help to bring a sense of unity to our students. Not only this, but our amazing officers overcome the challenges of a busy schedule to work together to provide the best for the school. By coordinating the bar and promoting bake/ gram. sales, we try to make school a better place for all of our community. Furthermore, we also try to establish a strong sense of spirit at the home of the Trojans by marketing sport games and organizing sports intramural competitions. STUCO is the most communal organization to ever grace the halls of Chapel School, and I hope that in the upcoming years it continues to contribute towards a great atmosphere in our school’s community.

NHS
Established in 1921, the National Honor Society (NHS) is the oldest and most respected student organization in the United States. Membership in NHS distinguishes students who have committed themselves to the pursuit of academic excellence, community improvement, and personal development. NHS at Chapel follows all the same principles as the program in the USA and serves as a means to connect the faculty, students and community leaders to accomplish projects for the good of the community. The activities that NHS organizes provide opportunities to develop, leadership, organizational and collaboration skills. Throughout the first semester the NHS developed projects including the Blood Drive, which encouraged students and teachers to donate blood by raising awareness for the need of blood donations and facilitating the process. Another project organized by the NHS was this year’s Chapel Day. Activities included ‘Weird Sports’ consisting of several different games like ‘Quidditch’ and ‘Cake Boss’ where each class had the chance to decorate their own cakes. The NHS at Chapel serves not only the students, but the employees as well. More recently, in the second semester, the members organized a special breakfast for the workers here at Chapel in order to honor all their hard work and commitment.

NJHS
NJHS, the National Junior Honor Society’s chapter at Chapel is supervised by the BSS teacher, Mr. Érico Padilha, and was started in 2014 with the goal of integrating middle school students to the international Honor community of student leaders who stand out for their outstanding leadership, ethical and citizenship skills within the school environment. In their first year, students created and implemented the philanthropic project 'Food Drive' during the first semester. The Food Drive's objective was to collect non-perishable food from elementary students on October 20-24. In the space of one week the students were able to collect more than 150kg of non-perishable foods that were donated to Lar Irmã Inês, an institution which is supported by the Chapel parish. In June, the NJHS promoted the first 'Movie Night' in June 2015, which offered the Chapel community the opportunity to watch classic movies in an open air environment whilst enjoying the campus facilities.

Book Fair
The Book Fair’s theme this year was ‘water’, and took place on September 17th to 20th. It included traditional book stands as well as several cultural activities. The photography contest was one of the main events of the Fair and students created an art installation on the auditorium stage. Several activities took place during the Fair, such as speeches from experts about the water crisis and the environment, storytelling by special guest authors, a painting workshop coordinated by the art teachers, and a presentation of the theatrical piece, “Água” (Water).

Todos foram convidados a ponderarem: independência não se conquista com ato simbólico, como o ocorrido às margens do Rio Ipiranga. Independência pressupõe um processo contínuo de luta para conseguirmos fazer valer nossos direitos. Se antes lutaram para que o Brasil tivesse sua própria legislação, hoje temos que lutar para que nossas leis sejam respeitadas e cumpridas por todos. Model United Nations
During the 2014-2015 school year Chapel Model United Nations attended three major conferences; Harvard Model Congress Latin America, São Paulo Model United Nations, and Brazil Model United Nations. Our students represented politicians and countries from all around the world with many of them being recognized as the top delegates in their committees, all the while studying and discussing global issues and politics in the hope that they will one day make the world a better place to live in.

Knowledge Bowl
The AASSA Knowledge Bowl tournament took place on February 26th and 27th, at Chapel School. This tournament was held between Chapel, Graded, PACA, EAC, Curitiba, Recife, and EARJ from Brazil, as well as Nido from Santiago, Chile. The tournament challenged the minds of students against the minds of students from other schools. Not only did they have to know the answers to questions about anything and everything from math to who won the Oscar for best actress in 1962, but their reflexes were also tested, as the first team to answer correctly got more points. The tournament had a round-robin first round in which all teams competed against one another over seven rounds which would determine placing for the semi-finals. After the first round, Graded finished first with no losses, followed by Nido, and Recife. Chapel tied for fourth place with a record of 3-4 with EARJ and PACA. Through a tie-breaker of points scored, Chapel earned the 4th place ranking by outscoring Rio by 3 points. In the semi-finals, Chapel lost a tough match to a strong Graded team, while Nido beat Recife. Nido would go on to upset Graded in the final round in a close match while Chapel would fall to Recife for the bronze medal.

Outdoor School
In Elementary School, the Outdoor School activities were a success! First Graders visited the Pullman bread factory. They walked through the factory and learned about the whole bread-making process. The children were so excited to learn in the real-life factory and experiment all the goodies straight out of the oven. Second and Third graders took part in the adventures at Sitio do Carroção, in Tatuí. This outstanding pedagogical resort is always an amazing experience, and also provides academic and social-emotional growth in the funnest way possible. The students encounter dinosaur fossils, have geography lessons with a huge floor map, learn about how water generates energy, and much more. Fourth, fifth and sixth graders had their three day fun at Republlica Lago, also known as Replago, in the city of Leme. There, a beautiful lake guarantees lots of exciting water activities. The students also took part in different field games and group activities. The CARES standards were practiced and appreciated as teachers and students bonded during this great experience.

HIGH SCHOOL ART
We had one more special year inside and outside the Art Classroom! Outside the classroom we visited MAM where the IB students got to know the works of Rivane Neuenschwander to a better degree. Students also participated in events such as the book fair, where they exhibited their works about water. This included interactive art installations where visitors laid on air mattresses whilst watching the water video made by one of the students. All student artwork was exhibited throughout the school for everyone’s appreciation. Inside the classroom possibilities were limitless as the 7th graders practiced their skills on creating a gradation using pencil and acrylic paint. The 8th graders explored water movement and captured it in a pencil drawing. The 9th and 10th graders learned how to make a realistic eye using watercolor. They experienced how it felt to have a background that escaped their control, inviting abstract to meet with realism. The 11th and 12th graders became more and more open towards new possibilities of thinking and doing art and the result was the amazing Senior Art Exhibit that took place in the school’s covered area in front of our auditorium. Going from a pencil drawing to an art installation, our great student artists at Chapel continue to mesmerize me and everyone at school with their creations!!! Way to go boys and girls!!! Let’s continue to celebrate creativity!!!

Every year, Chapel celebrates Easter by donating chocolate eggs to schools, day-care centers and charities across the city. This year however, our high school students went even further: the seventh graders collaborated on decorating the donation boxes, while the ninth graders composed small handwritten cards with positive and uplifting messages, attaching them to the eggs being sent. High school received a total number of 342 chocolate eggs, demonstrating that every gesture, big or small, can bring positive results into other people’s lives.

Through Christian values, students at Chapel learn to take responsibility for personal actions and community needs in their classes, activities, and trips. In addition to embedding these values in all subject matters as well as in classes since Pre 1, Chapel has a number of programs with the purpose to teach and practice these ideas: the Responsive Classroom Program, CARES class, the WOC Trip - World Is Our Classroom, the VIA Trip – values Into Action, the GIN Conference, the Advisory Program, and the CAS Program.
CARES
Every Friday, mixed groups of Elementary students from 1st through 6th grades meet for forty-five minutes to learn and practice the CARES standards. This year students learned about Cooperation and Self-Control. A highlight from the semester on Self-Control was the weekly mindfulness exercises, in which students practiced hands-on strategies to become more focused, aware, and attentive. A key aspect of this program is student interaction across grade levels and awakening a sense of leadership in students from the older grades.
VIA (Values Into Action) Trips: This year the focus of the VIA Trips was an academic investigation of different locations outside the school walls, integrated with social responsibility projects. Grade 9th , 10th , and 11th went to Ilha do Cardoso (SP), Extrema (MG), and Paraty (RJ), respectively. Alongside all the learning and reflection that took place, the trips were a great opportunity for grade levels to bond and spend time together.
(World Is Our Classroom) - The 7th and 8th grade’s trip took place on September 1st to 3rd at the Capivari-Monos Environmental Preservation Area (APA) in São Paulo. It brought together 57 students and 6 teachers in one of the project’s most productive trips. Students were divided into teams, which faced challenges during the days they stayed at the reserve. Aligned with the school’s vision – Engage. Challenge. Support. Care. Prepare Students for Life. - the project aims to develop skills that have been identified as important for the 21st century learner: communicating, collaborating, analytical thinking, problem-solving, finding and evaluating information, creating and innovating.

ADVISORY PROGRAM
Advisory Program – High School maintains the formal Advisory structure every Wednesday, when all students meet with their advisor for 30 minutes. The goal of this meeting is to allow for strong, trusting, and caring relationships to be built, and to create a time and space for advisors to act as coaches and supporters of students. Advisors get to know their advisees better and build connections with the student’s real life situations.

The secret to be happy is to understand that life give us choices, and that means you can always control our destiny, at least to a certain degree.
