2018 - 2019 Aeneid
“We take pictures because we can’t accept that everything passes, we can’t accept that the repetition of a moment is an impossibility.” ~
Michelle Richmond
“You must live in the present, launch yourself on every wave, find your eternity in each moment. Fools stand on their island of opportunities and look toward another land. There is no other land; there is no other life but this.”
~ Henry David Thoreau
“Life’s too short to wake up with regrets. So love the people who treat you right, forgive the ones who don’t and believe that everything happens for a reason. If you get a chance, take it. If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said it’d be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.” ~ Dr. Seuss
Life doesn’t last forever, but memorable moments do. This is the most important message conveyed by this year’s theme: Scrapbooking. You make a scrapbook to hold on to fragments that compose your life, moments that will make you part of history, moments that will make you immortal. It is not about whether the things that you record are good or bad, short or long, big or small, sad or happy. The only thing that matters is that captured moments last forever. The best way to remember a part that composes this short life of ours is by using images. After all, images can be understood by everyone, decoding them is just like having a superpower, just like telepathy. You comprehend what is being expressed without the use of any words. The message is simply passed from one mind to another. Please remind yourself that every page that you flip over without really looking represents someone else’s moment. Someone else’s life. Take risks and allow every individual to deliver a telepathic message to you and allow them to share a small fraction of their lives.
After all, life is short and complex while images are immortal and simple.

HIGH SCHOOL
Class of 2024
Seventh Grade
‘This year was amazing! High school is both an incredible and challenging experience. We did many incredible things that we could never have done in elementary, like the Paraty trip (go!), Little 8, Pep Rally, Spirit Week, Social Studies activities, and many other great things. The first year of high school was a mix of feelings, like fun, boredom, homework, and many more. Overall, it was an amazing year, and we made new friends, had laughs, studied VERY MUCH, and enjoyed the privilege of being older in high school. We learned a lot. Made a lot of mistakes. However, most importantly, we learned from them. Overall it was a really good year!’

If we could give one piece of advice to the next 7th graders, this would be it:
‘We would tell them not to stress because it isn’t that hard. If you have many friends and are dedicated to your work, then there is absolutely no reason to stress. Trust me, we stressed. A lot. But now we know that the biggest change are the teachers and classes and the content isn’t going to be impossible. It may be hard to find the rooms at first, but it gets easier. 7th grade is way harder than 6th, together with more responsibilities.1st semester is the easiest. The second one gets harder. On the other hand, 7th grade is more fun, because you have more freedom. Be yourself and don’t give up even if you are having a bad time. Be sure to play when you play, and study hard when you study. Do your homework and study a lot and make sure to manage your time well. Study, Study, Study. Exams aren’t so hard. You can do it! You are ready for them! So, don’t stress over them too much, just study. And make sure to have a lot of fun since it is your first year of high school!’

Always be prepared for tests and always do the homework on the day you receive it. Enjoy your year because this is the last one when extracurriculars and grades will not count for college, so make sure you try to do as many things as possible. Don’t listen to other people, because even though their opinions count, it’s important to create your own experiences. Listen to yourself! Study hard, but have fun. Your grade ’actually matters’ now: everything in 9th grade counts for your cumulative G.P.A. until you graduate. Don’t pick a fight, that matters even more now. Do after schools, they actually matter now too. And while you’re at it, learn something cool, like an instrument. Try hard because if you slack off you won’t do well.’

Prepare yourself to have a lot of homework and work hard! Study hard, do your best. Even if it’s not enough, what matters is how much you tried. Be nice to all teachers, they are only doing their job, it is probably not their fault. Value your friendships, prioritize your mental health. This year you must really have dedication to succeed! Take the time you have in the first semester to figure things out and gain your footing. Don’t let IB consume you, there are other important things to life as well. Do study harder though and don’t treat students from younger grades as inferior, it’s annoying. Start cutting the nonsense out of your life! If you don’t enjoy what you are doing, find something new. If we could give one piece of advice to the next 12th graders, this would be it: ‘Do your work, try not to stress out, enjoy your last year of high school! Do NOT leave everything for the last minute. If you have one week of break before Mocks, STUDY! Do NOT not study for a test or study everything at 11pm. at night. Rest a lot! Don’t underestimate how tired you may get. Also, don’t trust yourself that you can finish your IAs and EE in only a few days: you won’t! I know IB and high school, in general, can be a bit overwhelming, but believe me when I say everything will be fine in the end - cause it will’. Besides, y’all are still super young (I know it doesn’t feel like it, but we really are) so don’t stress out about life too much, because you have barely begun yours. Enjoy your time because it goes by REALLY FAST. Don’t get so stressed, everything will work out in the end. Have a lot of fun and don’t worry too much. Enjoy your last memories with your friends and try to become friends with people in your grade that you wouldn’t think you would be friends with, it might surprise you! Have fun, especially during the planning of the fashion show, and plan ahead. Use the time you have together because you will not have another high school experience. GOOD LUCK!’

Zagury: I don’t recall having one serious conversation with you. Renan: You have done so much for me that I can’t thank you enough. Your charisma brings a smile to my face everyday, which is why I am truly humbled to have you in my life. Ricardo: I don’t think I’ve ever seen you in a bad mood. Since day one you ensured to show me your warm hearted soul by saying hi to me and asking me how I was doing. You make me feel welcomed anywhere I go with you, hence my consideration for you as a very close friend! Lobo: At first we didn’t get along too well, but with time we managed to build up a friendship I treasure a lot. Our conversations always put a smile in my face and it amuses me just to hear you talk. Versolato: After we became closer, I realized how much I valued our friendship. The least I can hope for now is that we get into nearby universities so we can stay close! The extent to which we shared our common passions, beliefs and thoughts was something had never experienced before and that is what makes it so special for me. I will never forget our hour long talks, nor will I forget the times when we sat and laughed uncontrollably without a word said. I treasure you, not only as a friend, but as a person, which is why I am overwhelmed with happiness every time I remind myself of how close we are. My gratitude for what we’ve built together is way beyond me, and it goes even further when I think about the memories we made together throughout what seems to be a lifetime when it was actually 2 years only. Just like the proportions of our friendship, the degree to which I will miss you is immeasurable and I hope we stay in touch after school is over! Best Chapel Memory: My life at Chapel Plans After Chapel: Change the world through architecture
Zagury: My future journalist pal, honestly don’t even know if I would’ve survived high school without your company, always cheering me up on gloomy days with your historical facts - not really useful, though - and stories of your crazy adventures - never get old. I hope we can keep hanging out together in the future. Felipe: has it really been 13 years? Wow, I should commend myself for putting up with your jokes. HAHA, just kidding! I will never forget the time we spent together (playing video games, creating study guides, watching movies,...) I hope we can still be friends, independent of how far we are from each other (although, there is a possibility that we will meet at Penn State, God help me - ahhaahahha). Josh: My Korean brother, you’ve been always hanging around with me, which might’ve been boring for you. Man, you gotta start taking it easy whenever I mess with you. I still want to see your drawings, even though mine are clearly better, ahaha. I wish you the best in life and that you get to do what you enjoy. Lobo: life is all about living new experiences, and you’re enjoying yours to the fullest. Whenever you are absent, I always feel like something is missing and you definitely made a presence in my life. (also, let me concentrate in class) I will miss you and your mischief, that bring a laugh from everyone around. Thank you for being my friend. Ju: I know I might’ve been an idiot sometimes, but really appreciate everything you’ve done for me. Just like the people I cherish the most, you will be forever in my heart as one of my best friends, always mememing, laughing, crying, talking with me. Luca: Honestly, you are one of the most memorable people and friend I have ever met. Always in a bright mood, you always cheer me up with your contagious laugh and your sassy, unique personality. You always stuck with me, even though wasn’t that interesting, which appreciate so much. can’t believe we are already parting to different paths, but I will always cherish the moments we’ve spent together. Carol: My HL Art companion. You always think about others and what you could do to help them, I appreciate you for putting up with my terrible memes and art tips. will forever cherish the moments we’ve spent together, pondering about our artistic career, fighting over which artwork was the best, and crying over staying up late working on our art pieces. Rodrigo: One of the smartest and artful friends I have. admire your thirst for knowledge (although, reading the news during classwork isn’t exactly something we should be doing) and your cheerful personality. You will definitely achieve great feats, in the future, by outshining others with your unique and positive mindset. (You can count on me to design your company) Schmidt: A true musician, a true comedian, a true gamer, and a true friend. Continue being the bright person that you are, and I hope you achieve great things in life. Leticia: I think you’re a great model in life, and I wish I would be able to overcome my shyness and talk more with you, that way we, probably, could’ve been very close friends. (I am very bad at expressing myself) Gui: Whenever I think about you, can’t stop laughing. You never cease to impress me and others around you, and regardless of the situation you brighten the mood of our class with a joke or two. I hope we can continue to be friends. Bruno&Paulo: will never forget the few great times we had together, like the parties we went to. I hope you guys are able to achieve greatness in life. To Everyone: I can’t express enough how much you did for me, as well as being inclusive independent of my shyness. My 13 years at Chapel will always be something I will cherish forever. am sorry that couldn’t send a message to everyone individually, but, I am really grateful for how you all accepted me for who I am.

Mom and Dad: have no words to express the gratitude have towards the best parents in this world. The sacrifices you have made for me to strive both academically and athletically. Although it has been very tough living these 2 years apart from each other, I can affirm that they have been worth it and all the “saudades” will pay off with my good swimming results and my graduation. Thank you so much for always supporting me in my swim meets, waking up early, getting wet, being the crazy photographer and screaming for me from the bleachers. love you guys to infinity and beyond!
Livitinha: My little baby sister grew so much in these last years that I can barely recognize that moon-shaped face anymore. Living apart for 2 years made us stop fighting so much and start appreciating every moment together. Thank you for being the super supportive sis, who always goes to my annoying meets, is always with me in the crazy moments and taking the blame for troubles. I love you so much!
Jujuba: Jujubalandiii, thank you so much for putting up with me these 2 years and for making my Chapel experience 100 times better. I’ll always remember our spirit week combos, Halloween costumes and fabulous fridays. You’ll be with me forever, love you.
Carol: Caroool babyyy, can’t believe you came to our graduation (thought you would be finishing your EE, investigation book, comparative study or TOK Essay haha). We mess with you because we love you. Thank you for being patient with my attitude, being my friend and always giving me that extra support (letting me stay at your house, at parties and at school).
Zaguis: Zags, I am so grateful for having the best narrating voice in my life. I swear I never knew someone who had such energy for partying and history classes, which is why love you. Thanks for always being there for me and repeating our motto: “I swim”.
Luca: I literally love your humor, even though you are hard on me. You understand me like no other boy would and I thank you for making the class always laugh with your “risada”.
Felps: Felps baby, will miss you like crazy and the happy expectation face expression you made whenever you told a bad joke in class. Thank you for being the reason I want to go to Math and Portuguese classes. Love you lots!
Brunão: Brunão! Finally, we won’t have to write problems on the Math board or talk about enzymes anymore. Thank you for being a friend to me this year! Ms. Vompean: Thank you for teaching me the best Biology classes and helping me understand all the things that surround my athletic life. Thank you for also answering the most awkward questions and laughing at our immature conversations. When we graduate, please let’s eat sushi with corgis. Best Chapel Memory: Senior skip day
Plans After Chapel: Hopefully getting a job in a few years
Mom and Dad - Nobody would ever have been able to raise me like you did, or help like you did, or love me like you did. know don’t talk much and might not show it most of the time, but I love the both of you as well. If it weren’t for you I wouldn’t be here, I wouldn’t be alive, I wouldn’t be in this school. Thank you for giving me so many opportunities, without you I would not have made it this far.
Renan - I will start by saying that you should pay attention to anything that stands Out from this writing. Alright then, our friendship is something unlikely, and often results in altered computer backgrounds. But despite all that, or sometimes even because of it, something treasure greatly. When together at least one of us will end up laughing uncontrollably at one point or another, and have an incredible time. Maybe that’s what this friendship is, hilarious, but I truly relish it because at the center of every great comedy there is truth. For me that truth is bond.
Brunão - Now, some rule would be broken if didn’t mention cupcakes, brownies, and a good game of madlibs. That was a great day, and we practically turned green from the nature around us. But our kinship goes even beyond that, from the petty class disputes to the more philosophical conversations that occur in Big 8, you have always stood by me and I really appreciate that. What I appreciate even more is that you can understand me without any conversation. And in light of this I will simply say, thank you.
Luchetti - Ever so great it was to have you as a classmate to distract us from many of the boring parts in class. Whether it was by hiding Maite’s shoe or eating chocolate that wasn’t yours, you were always doing something to humor everyone. Like a small break from much of the stress the IB has to offer, thanks for giving some laughter to a bland world. And hope to summarize everything else have to say while winning our most competitive dispute yet in a single action: ;)
Zagury - To the man who knows every random historical fact and has the most luxurious hair known to be above on a head, I write: I wish nothing but success in your journalistic life to come, truly enjoyed having you as friend, and hope that this continues in both our lives.
Antonio - Every situation where you are present seems to be more exciting because of your natural upbeatness. It is as if you emit a party-like aura. I enjoy that about you, how your mind is always somewhere else that is more fun and where you have a decent supply of Guarana or Red Bull to share. You bring that to your surroundings..
Josh - You were such a great friend. You’re usually very reserved and talk very little, but on the occasions where we can freely speak and joke around I enjoy your company the most. Thanks for introducing me to MUN, thanks for being you, and thanks for being a good sport.
Felipe - Never did think I would stop being annoyed by all your bird puns, but I soon realized that “toucan play that game”. Jokes aside, you were a great help and a great friend, always very respectful and someone I could count on. Just try to relax nobody wants you do die from a heart attack from a palmeiras loss. Ms. Bidoli - Coming to your office was one of the things did most this year, and I thank you for all the college help, couldn’t have been accepted anywhere without it. ITGS class - Most classes can be... unengaging, but not this one. So let’s all say our proper goodbyes to Babe before graduating. Everyone - Sorry I couldn’t include you in this as well, hopefully you can understand why, thanks for everything.

I have been at Chapel for more than 12 years, almost 70% of my life. So it is no surprise that the people at Chapel, including students and teachers, have become my second family. want to thank all of you for these amazing years which we have spent together. I have various memories, good and bad, but mostly good. From disagreements with friends to amazing experiences, all of these were important events in my life which I could not have had anywhere else. And all of these things helped created this person that I am today, so am very grateful of all of them. I would especially like to thank my closets friends Renan, Guilherme, Andre, Rick, Calvin, Antonio and Zagury for all of these great memories I have. From playing soccer during lunch when we were younger, to the debates we had. All of these experiences were amazing and sometimes I wish could relive them. Even though we will not see each other much, you guys will always be in my mind. And no mater where we all end up, know that can count on you.

“Who is the happier man, he who has braved the storm of life and lived or he who has stayed securely on shore and merely existed?” - Hunter S. Thompson
There is nothing that makes Chapel inherently different from other schools, to the outside viewer. And yet, were to go to any other school, would not feel as I did at Chapel. The reason behind this are all the people behind my school experience, and, although I cannot thank all of you in this space as I end this chapter of my life, know that you are in my heart. From all the teachers, through students and librarians, I am fortunate to have been able to enjoy your company and presence. Teachers: Those of you who are nearest and dearest to me know who you are. You have made my Chapel memorable, allowing me to find interest in what could’ve been the most boring moments of my life. I am proud to say that I have never slept during a lecture, although that is your merit, not mine. As for those of you who have said we will have coffee after graduation, I will hold you to it. Leo: We haven’t been friends as long as I’d have liked, but you’ve made every second count even if you did have earbuds in half the time. I would have probably gone insane without you and I’ll miss our random rolês and almost getting mugged. In the future, you won’t have to worry about seeing me, as I will be a constant fixture on your couch (although your being unemployed too could hurt this). MaG. MoC. Bruno: Your laugh has been the joy of my days for these past years, and uplifted me in dark times as much as the coffee you generously shared. I hope we will still see each other as you rise above us mere mortals in the Film industry, and will miss our Biology sessions in your house. Oloco Meo. Steeply. Luca: Discussing geopolitics with you was probably the high water mark of my academic career, and your at times outrageous (not to mention tall) self has uplifted and improved me: “you make me want to be a better man”. Saúde. Lobo: You too, have been light in many dark times for me, and my Chapel existence has been improved immeasurably by your general inappropriateness: I couldn’t have survived class without you. Carol: Your company, comforting presence and willing ear have been the lifeline to hold on to keeping me afloat in stormy seas. Having someone simply ask how was doing already made my day 100x better. Yeet. Eric: I wish I’d known you all my life, and it was a shame you had to take the twisted joys of knowing you to the US. Isa: That night at Milo’s changed my life, and I couldn’t be happier for it. In the brief time where we’ve been friends, you’ve gotten to know me like few other people, and understand me like no one else. Josh: Thanks for the years of help, interesting conversations and many other joys. Know always that “Manners maketh man”. Rick: Your presence has since forever shone a light on my life, and I hope to spend even more time with you, even having dinner at 12:00 in your house. Leticia: Our resident mermaid, and the person behind the most amusing, interesting conversations of these last few years. Always remember, “I swim”, and you will succeed. Renan, Antonio, Andre & Luchetti: Please forgive me for bunching you all together, but you are all able to make me laugh since when we were all children, and I couldn’t imagine life without your funny, lovable presence. I hope we can see much more of each other in all the crazy rolês which make life enjoyable. Paulo, Rodrigo, Schmidt & Felipe: I am sorry, too, to have bunched you, but all of you managed to be intelligent without being arrogant, in addition to interesting, steadfast and friendly: you have my eternal admiration and friendship.

Schmidt: I’m not sure if you know why I asked you so many times what you wanted to do after high school. The reason is because you have such a captivating energy in whatever you do, and I’m sure whatever you choose, you’re going far in life. You sing, you read about politics, you play video games at a professional level and you’re the sweetest person on earth. No matter what people say, remember that you are epic (and I’m not the first person to tell you that). You’re unique, and that unique goodness of yours is what is already attracting so many people to your life. Thanks for being my best friend, not only at Chapel, but for life. Even if we spend a while without talking, I know I can always count on you for anything, and I hope the same goes both ways around. Felipe: Felipe, Thanks for all the bad jokes, for every drama over a test, for every invitation to do something over the weekend, and for all your crazy “frescuras”. Felipe, you’re a character, but above all you are an incredible person and I have no idea what my life at Chapel would have been like without you. I hope we always keep in touch because I think we have an amazing friendship (after all, we did survive 8th grade together, hahaha). Leo: I’m sure you’re going to become a great architect, and for that reason I’m going to hire you to build the headquarters of my law firm, hahaha. You are an awesome friend, thanks for staying by my side all these years and I hope our friendship continues even with the distance. Josh: You are the most awesome pessimist in the world, hahaha. will miss you man and I hope we keep in touch. Neil: I feel like you are in great terms with your entire life and you have your stuff more figured out than I do, but if you ever need support just know you can count on me! Rodrigo and Carol Cordeiro: Good luck with NHS, I have no doubt you will reach incredible heights, never give up. Giovanna and Lara: Thank you for making me laugh every day at school, both of you have a brilliant future because of the wonderful contagious energy you transmit. Carol S., Zagury, Luca: You guys have no idea the difference you made in my life, thanks for being there for me when I needed the most. All of you are so cheerful and positive and accepting, thanks for accepting me and for uniting our groups. Anika and Rhea: The two of you are awesome, and smart, and funny, and worth every second to spend time with. Both of you were born for greatness and I hope you always remember that the two of you are amazing. To all the rest: Thank you for making each day better than the last, for giving your best, for giving me opportunities and for making Chapel a wonderful chapter of my life.

André,
Estou muito orgulhoso. Grande passo dado, grandes passos à frente!

Continue perseguindo teus sonhos.
A letter to lovely son from mom Calvin, who loves too much soccer and Brazil, tries to do best for your work with responsibility. Even if you are going to be in any position at any time in your life, these responsibilities should give you good opportunities, I believe. I pray you are to be happy always. I love you.

Filha,
A vida é assim.
Class of 2019. Love will keep us together, não importa a distância.

Mami. Essa citação deveria estar gravada no yearbook inexistente da Class of ‘85 da EARJ: “Let the truth of love be lighted Let the love of truth shine clear”.
Te amamos milhões de vezes to the moon and back, como diz nosso Lucas. Me liga sempre, love you.

Leo, you made it! Cannot tell you how proud I am of my little bro. Desejo todo o sucesso a você, you deserve all the greatest things in life. I know that I have told you this many times, but I want to let you know that hard work pays off. Go party haha! It’s all about finding a balance. but anyways, eu sei que você vai ser um great architect!
Love you and miss you.
All the best, your very artsy sis.

Último, mas não menos importante, seja feliz e não abra mão disso: Life is a journey and not a destination. Sucesso Lele. Te amamos muito.
Luca Cherubim Ferracuti
Luca,

“O am so glad you
And I are here to see
And hear and be . And I am more than glad that you are you.
How lonely I would be if you were not .....”

My dearest Rebecca, It feels like just the other day when you were born. I remember all the milestones as if they were yesterday. We arrived 4 years ago in Brazil, and since then I have watched you face all the challenges head on, with grace and tenacity, and an inner strength which I am sure you did not realize that you had. Now we are at the end of your school career.
A journey that started at Chapel, continued to St Georges, Theodore Hertzl, and finally back to Chapel. Each stage has taught you something, and provided opportunity for growth, sometimes not easy, but always a life lesson learned. I am amazed and proud of the young lady that you are. These are things I should tell you more often, not just on occasions such as this. As you stand on the brink of the rest of your life:
Behind you, all your memories.
Before you, all your dreams.
Around you, all who love you.
Within you, all you need.
Congratulations my precious child, may God bless you and continue to guide you and be your strength. Always remember how proud we are of you. Love you eternally!
Mom
Bex. I remember taking you to Chapel Pre School in 2006 where you cried every morning for 9 months when I left you there! And now you are a beautiful girl who has achieved so much and has developed so much.
You are my star.

Querida filha,

Love you. Mamãe e Papai
Rick,
Tia Marcinha.
Rodrigo Santos Pinto Silva
Falando pouco e enrolado, pique pega, pique esconde...
Ruim de bola, excelente nadador, corrida, bike ...
Mar, sol, surf...menino do Rio.
Me olha, me toca, me faz sentir... que é hora agora de você ir...
Voa RÔ...voe alto, a juventude é preciosa
Sonha RÔ...só têm sonhos realizados quem sonha
Desfruta RÔ...melhor do que chegar é curtir a viagem
Luz cintilante, estrela forma de gente, invasor do planeta amor... você nos conquistou!

My beloved son, Josh
It's been already 3 years since we came to Brazil.

Sports
Young Trojans Boys
In February of this school year, Chapel launched the much anticipated Young Trojans Athletics Program which became an overnight success. Through this program, 3rd to 6th grade students not only get to practice team sports daily, but they also have the opportunity to try out different sports and play friendly games against other schools. There were both coed and boys and girls teams offered in basketball, volleyball, soccer and cheer-leading. The opportunity for students to practice appropriate interactions, fair play and teamwork are at the heart of The Young Trojans program which was initiated by our athletic director Bruno Pereira. There are four further important goals in mind: increasing the offering of team sports to ES students, having 3rd to 6th graders practice sports that they will have the opportunity to compete in as HS students and bringing families together which reinforces Chapel’s commitment of building a sense of community. The Young Trojans sports program is definitely one of the highlight in elementary school this year.

Aula de Atualidades
Advisor: Mr. Erico Padilha
Bullet Journaling
Advisor: Ms. Cory Blasingame
The Bullet Journal Club exists as a way for students to build ownership of their every day student lives. It gives students a weekly way to decompress, organize their schedules, and have time to be creative. The main purpose is to create each individual’s bullet journal planner, and this aids students in keeping track of everything they have going on throughout the week. 2018-2019 was the first year for us, but we have begun to get into the rhythm of our club. We have moved from our hodgepodge notebooks, to new, and more artistic, notebooks that we have as a group. We are constantly changing and revising what works for us as learners and artists, and we look forward to growing our lunch table top group even further next year. We meet every other Friday in the 1st grade hallway during lunch. The members this year are: Ingrid Bakeman, Leonardo Glaser, Julia Strong, Alex Aguilar, and Danielle Pak.
Computer Programming
Advisor: Mr. Marcos Müller
The Programming Club is geared to students who finished at least one semester of the Introduction to Computer Science course and is a place where students can continue working with the skills acquired during the course. In an environment resembling a real life software studio, students create software that can be used in the school community with a focus on identifying issues that can be melhorated or solved through the creation of software. Students are currently working on multiple projects such as a software for controlling reservations of resources by teachers and a system to keep track of students’ results in Physical Education tests.
2018-2019 members of the club are: Carolina Cordeiro, Enrique Esteve, Francisco Almeida Prado, Henrique Rocha, Neil Kapur, Pedro de Marchi, and Bruno Kameyama.
E-Sports Club

We meet once a week to practice and release some steam after all the hard work getting ready for the IB Exams. Club members are: Brian Jung, Enrique Esteves, Josh Lee, Patrick Van der Klugt and William Cho.

Model United Nations
Advisors: Mr. Benjamin Vaughan and Mr. Donald Campbell
Model United Nations is essentially a simulation of the United Nations in which students work with other delegates to elaborate and debate diplomatic solutions to some of the many global issues of today’s world. Chapel’s MUN chapter attends multiple MUN conferences throughout the year. At each conference, students are assigned a country to represent and the solutions they elaborate must be in accordance with their nation’s position. One of the most exciting conferences is THIMUN in The Hague, Netherlands where delegates meet students from various countries around the world. BRAMUN is another remarkable conference which takes place at a beach resort in Costa do Sauipe, Bahia. Delegates also participate in CHAMUN (Chapel’s semesterly internal conferences) and SPMUN (an annual conference which takes place in São Paulo). Some achievements this year were the leadership positions that Chapel’s students were selected for and the multiple awards that our delegates won. Throughout the year, the following students were active members of MUN: Anika Kapur (President), Rhea Kapur (Vice-President), Neil Kapur (Secretary), Rodrigo Luz, Amanda Arruda, Patrick El Jamal, Enrique Esteve, Yeongseo (Alex) Chae, Yeongin (Elren) Chae, Pedro Loureiro, Luca Ferracuti, Sangwon (Josh) Lee, Arthur Almeida, Julia Anoardo, William Cho, Vitor Correa, Santiago Herrera, Fernanda Lacombe, Pedro de Marchi, Paulo Mattos, Amanda Monte Alto, Luisa Tolda, Rodrigo Santos, Patrick Van Der Klugt, Henrique Rocha, and Lina Mourad.

Newspaper Club
The Chapel Newspaper Club, responsible for the Trojan News website, is Chapel School’s online student-run newspaper, which has for the last few years published editions featuring the most relevant pieces of news, interesting facts and entertainment for the Chapel community. Operating under the slogan “Trojan Integrity, a Modern Outlook”, the club is composed of students from 7th to 12th grade working under an Editor-in-Chief and an Executive Committee made up of a Secretary, a Deputy Editor and a Communications Director. This club strives to keep up journalistic standards in an age of declining quality of information and fake news plaguing every news outlet. This year, under Editor-in-Chief Pedro Zagury, Secretary André Schmidt, Deputy Editor Lina Mourad and Communications Director Lara Barbosa, the club underwent huge changes such as the complete reorganization of the leadership structure and the promulgation of its first constitution. This made official most of the good work the club’s founders had done and solidified the modifications put in place. Trojan News has also expanded its outreach through its new Instagram account, launched in February which achieved significant success in engaging students. Despite a rocky year in both the club and the world, Trojan News has been able to publish 7 editions this past year covering everything from the debate on vaccines to interviews with Chapel faculty and students. The publication also covered varied topics in order to maintain relevance and appeal to the Chapel community at large. Together with the executive team, Ana Fujiwara, Bruno Ayoub, Bruno Ayoub, Guadalupe Lastra, Isabel Aboud, Julia Anoardo, Julia Malagoni, Leticia Barbosa, Mel Andrade, Mel Rossi, Natalie Rotem, Patrick Van Der Klugt, Pedro Lobo, Roberta Ramos, and Tatiana Capezzuto made this a year of growth and accomplishments.

ECEC Celebrations
A number of celebrations in ECEC engaged students in socio-cultural learning throughout the year. In the first semester these events ranged from the Brazilian Independence Day celebration, Welcoming Spring, Children's Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. In the second semester some highlights were Valentine’s Day, Carnaval, St. Patrick’s Day, celebrating Internationalism and Diversity, Easter and Mother’s Day. Our young students had fun and learned through play. Some favorite activities were planting flowers, making fruit skewers, delicious Spring and Easter picnics, Art workshops, “Trick-or-Treating”, a delicious Thanksgiving lunch and reflections, love and friendship card exchanges as well as dressing up for several of these events. Very exciting also were visits from a mischievous Leprechaun, who left golden chocolate coin treasures for students and from the Easter bunny who left delicious chocolate eggs and footprints everywhere. Some very special moments were the parent presentations about different countries and cultures (a special thank you to all families that took us on this amazing journey!) and a lovely Mother's Day activity in the classroom. It was a time to get together and share special memories, while making different crafts in each of the grade-levels. We are thankful for having a year of so much learning, celebrating and community building!

On November 10, this amazing event which is planned by parents and sponsored by the school, brought our community together once again for a day full of activities, games, music and charity. For the 2018 Christmas Bazaar, the volunteer parents prepared several sports activities and games. The Sports Festival provided everyone with fun moments with friendly indoor soccer and basketball matches among parents, students and teachers. At the same time, there were musical presentations by High School bands and individual performers. Chapel Art teachers prepared a Christmas ornament station to foster creative moments for families. An Escape 60’ bus was also there so students could engage in a mystery game with the goal to decipher codes and solve enigmas to escape in 60 minutes. The little ones played with many toys and made their own slime. In the auditorium, the traditional booths carried exclusive products, fine crafts and miscellaneous objects at reasonable prices. Also, High School students had a costume contest and it was a success. A special CARES lesson was planned and performed by the 6th graders to all students from 1st to 5th grades in order to teach them how to make Halloween ornaments. With the aid of their advisors, the mixed-aged groups made spiders, mummies and ghosts in the afternoon of October 31.

Pep Rally
The high school Pep Rally takes place every semester to show school spirit and boost student-athletes` confidence and mindsets in preparation for the Big 8 and Big 4 tournaments. Besides introducing the teams to the student body, the pep rally brings several community building activities for grades 7 through 12. This year, some activities were: crazy race, knowledge bowl, dodgeball, keep ups (embaixadinha), hula hoops, capture the flag and everyone's favorite, bubble soccer. Students competed against teachers in some of the activities which was so much fun. The pep rally teams are usually made up of 7th, 9th and 11th graders, against 8th, 10th and 12th graders. The best thing about the pep rally is the interaction between the entire Chapel H.S. community, regardless of their grade which builds a sense of united school spirit. On the day of the pep rally, StuCo officers are responsible for decorating the court and running the whole event. Even though the pep rally demands months of work ahead of time, seeing everyone having fun makes it all worthwhile.
7th Grade Fun Night
7th grade fun night is an event to welcome 7th graders to High School. It helps them build a relationship with StuCo officers from all grades who can help them in their first months as high schoolers. The 7th graders chose the theme, and the StuCo officers organize it. This year the theme was colors! 7th Grade Fun Night starts at 7 pm, and besides the StuCo officers and the 7th graders, some teachers are also invited. StuCo organizes the event in the best way possible so that everyone enjoys it, especially the 7th graders. There is a DJ playing, party lights, and incredible food like chocolate fountain, popcorn, hotdog and others. There are StuCo run activities to build community, such as shoe dance, chair dance and even a parade - depending on the theme - and free time for the 7th graders to initiate activities they want.
Chapel Day
StuCo organizes this event to celebrate Chapel’s anniversary and this year festivities were for for High School only. It was an afternoon with several activities and delicious food. It started with superlatives that the students voted on throughout the week. The superlatives included: best laugh, funniest teacher, teacher bromance among others. Some StuCo officers presented a 'Chapel song' which was a parody of the "Cups" song, from the movie Pitch Perfect. After that, everyone sang happy birthday to Chapel, and then they had free time to chill, eat and talk. There was delicious food too! There were pães de queijo, doughnuts, cake, brigadeiro and much more. Besides this amazing event, StuCo hosted a clothing drive. They collected tons of clothes, which they donated to charity. It's always fun to celebrate Chapel's anniversary, and amazing to see StuCo officers working hard and enthusiastically to organize this event.
International Festival
This yearly event took place on March 31st and involved the whole community in celebration of Chapel’s legacy of internationalism and diversity. There were 24 countries represented in 21 booths - including the debut participation of a few countries such as China, which beautifully showcased the countries’ unique delicacies and culture. Food, drink, dance, traditional dress and folk arts are central to this great party which is organized by parents and volunteers and brings over a thousand people together every year. Another highlight of this year’s celebration was the charitable initiative promoted by elementary students. They sold coasters made by students in the CARES program in the Makerspace. The revenue from this was donated to Chapel-sponsored charities.
Music Recital
The Upper Elementary Music Recital was incorporated to our Music Program to foster student developmental learning processes by offering the opportunity of exploring varied repertoire in support of curricular goals. The themes are derived from 6th grade student suggestions and each song is chosen according to the appropriate techniques to be developed and instruments to be played. The activity is aligned to the learning expectations of their grade level. The fourth edition of this event took place on April 26th, 2019 and the theme was “We Will Rock You!”.

Arts
The Arts at Chapel in the 2018-2019 school year was impressive!!! All the activities in ECEC were geared towards the creative, social and cognitive development of students, while developing their knowledge about the elements of art. Imagination was the focus in every class as students had the opportunity to express themselves by painting, drawing, pasting and creating art work with great pride and dedication. During Art classes in Elementary School, students were exposed to many types of material and techniques. They were able to develop skills using elements such as lines, shapes, color, value, texture, form, and space. Students also built a sense of art appreciation through a variety of lessons in different genres. In High School we had many interdisciplinary Art projects and skill improvement activities such as the one carried out cross curricularly with Portuguese and English classes. In these interdisciplinary units, students worked closely with Visual Arts. Also across content areas. Publications students were able to produce yearbook pages and Trojan Horse magazine pages! In conjunction with French students are creating projects using our new Makerspace room. Additionally, Computer Literacy students did projects exploring Adobe Illustrator, and in Visual Arts students produced pieces such as a folder painted in acrylic paint, and also Casual Self Portrait canvases. Through Mirror Reflections and the Double Meaning, students also had the opportunity to create their own canvas! Our Field Trip to Bienal was really rich due to the new format of varied curators which inspired students to produced impressive Visual Poems! We also had great ceramics with creative glazing!! The IB Art show brought the community together to appreciate the results of IB Artists' hard work! Way to Go Chapel School Artists!!!!
Talent Show
The Elementary Talent Show took place on September 28th, 2018 and counted on 51 performances from students in 1st to 5th grades. Students in 6th grade were involved with the organization, backstage and the evening’s bake sale. The presentations included playing instruments, dancing, poetry reading, presenting science experiments and mime.
World Book Day
On April 25th and 26th, aiming at stimulating students’ passion for reading and connection to books, Chapel organized activities for Pre I - 6th grades in celebration of the UNESCO World Book Day, (The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization). The official celebration was on April 23rd, a date in which two great writers, William Shakespeare and Miguel de Cervantes, passed away. Students, teachers and staff were encouraged to dress up as characters from books they love. Students also were encouraged to do projects related to books they have read or had reading buddies from other grades. In elementary school a D.E.A.R (Drop Everything and Read) session was held on the field. Storytelling and drama workshops were also offered to elementary students by special guest author Gu Braga.

Chapel Community Outreach: Santo
Eugênio Ensino Integral, Our Sister School
In the beginning of 2019 we proudly inaugurated the Santo Eugênio full time preschool. This was the culmination of years of hard work on a project to build a state of the art school to serve young children from low-income families by offering the highest quality education within optimal facilities. Located in Americanopólis, the southern region of the city of São Paulo, the new school occupies an area of 1800 m2 with 610 m2 of built areas. It currently serves 120 children, ages 3 to 5, who were selected through CRAS, Reference Center for Social Assistance. The location was chosen because it is one of the most underserved areas in the city and therefore serves the goal of the Oblate Fathers to invest in quality education for children who could not otherwise afford it. It is our core belief that these individuals will make a significant difference in the world. The classroom, library and cafeteria infrastructures as well as the pedagogical approach are on par with the quality offered at Chapel, making Santo Eugenio our sister school.
