FIFTH GRADE
2023-2034 was a great year! The 5th Graders showed a lot of growth and maturity. They learned so much and enjoyed doing a lot of hands-on activities in Math, Science and Language Arts. The year was academically challenging with new ideas and skills learned throughout the year. But, remember that the only thing holding you back is yourself. Whatever your goal is, you can achieve it with hard work, dedication and perseverance. As a final note, don’t forget to KEEP ON READING!
As J. K. Rowling said, “I do believe something magical can happen when you read a book!”
Ms. Fox and Mr. Gabriel
FIFTH GRADE
The 5th Grade Students gave a good effort each and every day, had a positive attitude, and were always ready to help their classmates reach their goals.
‘’Good Times’’ with “Good People”
Lots of memories were made.

Salty Goblins, Screaming Eagles and Guirasermen, Macaroni and Panetone, Baby Cakes and Baby Camps, Unicorns and Bridges.
It was the cruel summer of Bruno Mars and Taylor Swift, and I hope you don’t have that thing where you get older but just never wiser. One day I’ll watch as you’re leaving, ‘cause you got tired of my teaching’. Sometimes I wake up screaming from dreaming, and I’ll watch as you’re leaving, and life will lose all its meaning.
I hope you have learned a lot of things while you were here, and maybe you will forget most of it, but remember: We never go out of style, we never go out of style. Mr. Desai
SIXTH GRADE
What a pleasure it has been, working with you wonderful boys and girls throughout this academic year. I am so proud of all of the hard work you’ve put in and I’m 100% sure you will enter High School full of confidence, knowing you’ve passed the toughest tests in 6th Grade. Wonderful exchanges of ideas, discussions, and expressions of your interests and talents showed what a great group of creative and energetic kids you all are. In the end, all of you showed the right attitude from Day 1 and displayed the work ethics necessary to be successful in high school and life. I’m so proud of you! Thank you for putting up with me and all of my assignments as best as you did. Don’t be a stranger and remember to visit my class next year to say hello! Enjoy your summer holiday! Love you all!
Arthur: Tuti, you are one of my best friends and I just love being around you because you’re funny and you inspired me to be a better person. I’m so grateful for our friendship because you were there all the way. You were one of the people that I just could sit down and talk to at any time. Peçanha, you are one of the people that I actually care about and love being around. You’re just a genuine guy. I won’t forget that I’m lucky to have you as a friend and BSS partner, one of the guys that has a contagious laugh that I’ll miss. Joe, you are one of the guys that I just love going against since our rivalry with soccer goes back a long way. I remember in 5th Grade when we used to pick teams and we used to fight for everything and we just could not stop fighting for whatever reason. I’m thankful for sharing these moments with you in class.
At last, I just want to thank everyone and pretty much the people that were there since the beginning who saw me grow and were part of all this.

Plans After Chapel: Go to college
As someone that has been at Chapel for 15 years now, and seen the development of the school and the students throughout the years, I can confidently say that it has been a journey and a half. In my development I had help from a lot of people that shaped who I am. I wanted to thank my parents Elissa and Fernando Daher for giving me such a wonderful opportunity to study in this highly privileged school and giving me the tools to shape my own future. Their support through the years has motivated and encouraged me to keep going even if I didn’t get the highest scores in tests. They were and will always be there
to support me and I have nothing to say other than thank you! Another extremely influential person who has had similar experiences to me is my brother Omar Daher, now a Chapel alum who has given me tips and tricks to better myself, as well as study tips. He is someone that I could always rely and lean on when I needed help. As someone I admire and view as my role model, I could not have asked for a better brother. I also wanted to say thank you to the friends I made along the way – Michel, Luis, Joey, Jose, Derick, Jamal, Joao, Zion, Kamal and Lucca. They were always there when I needed them, and I was always there for them. Finally, I wanted to thank my teachers, specifically Ms. Blasingame and Mr. Kuroiwa for guiding and pushing me towards the right path and encouraging me to be the best version of myself. To the Chapel community all I have to say is thank you for taking care of me over the years.

Plans After Chapel: Live my life
What’s up? Many of you may know me as Travis or by my birth name Bruno. These past four years I’ve been at Chapel School and I would like to share with you my story. I was born in Norway but lived in Armenia for the next three years. Then I lived in New Zealand for another three years, until we went to Jordan where I lived for seven more years. After Jordan, I lived in Portugal for two years, and when the pandemic hit I came to Brazil to study at Chapel.
Moving to Chapel was a challenge from the beginning since we started online. Nonetheless, I became friends with Walter to whom I am very grateful. We went to Oak Berry, and we would go to the gym a lot. We would also go to this burger place, and the vibes would be immaculate. I would also like to thank Stoops, for always being there for me and watching the sunrise. Bernardo, for opening my mind to a lot of things by sharing his creativity. My grandmother, Renate, I am grateful for her giving me this opportunity and I love her a lot. She means the world to me. In conclusion, my years here at Chapel have had ups and downs but I learned who I am, and who I want to be in the future.

Plans After Chapel: Create my own Business venture with the friends I make in College
The time period in which I moved into Chapel was during one of the most turbulent moments of my life. My parents’ divorce still brought sorrow to my daily routine, as it was the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic and I almost failed 9th Grade entirely. But coming into Chapel, my life started to come together as I tried to discover who I truly am. In my first math class here, I raised my hand to answer a question, catching the attention of a classmate named Lio. He invited me to meet his friends, and that’s how I met my buddies Ben, Pedro, Luiza, Clara, and my best friend Marta. Soon I would also be friends with Gabi, Jenny,
Mateus and Raphael who later joined Chapel. With time, I got to heal and give new meaning to these wounds.
Starting off junior year, I went all out in my tests to ‘survive’ the IB shock. This paid off immensely and so I kept this momentum going. During this time I met a new set of (more chaotic) friends. My girlfriend Marta (I asked her out) ranted so passionately about D&D that people just showed up. Mar, Ana and Stella were friends that grew as role models to me. They faced much harder struggles in the past and absolutely succeeded in them. Along with them I learned how to respect myself and also to dare and ask for more in life. This message is a celebration of Chapel School, where a victim was forged into the champion of his own life. I thank all of my friends for inspiring me, e agradeço eternamente à minha família, unida em meu coração, por me disponibilizar a oportunidade de ser mais na vida.

João: I’ve known you for a long time and I’ll always be proud to say that I’m a friend of João Reszecki. You were the friend that in one way or another always made me strive for things that would benefit me the most and always supported me in times of need. I’ll always be grateful for even the tiniest help that I’ve received from you. Be, you are the smartest in the grade. For sure one of the people that shares with me the funniest nonsensical memories. Always unpredictable and cold on the outside, but the person who made the best memories in my life. I’ll be forever grateful for all of the stupid things that we did together in 6th Grade.
Peçanha, Miguel, Leo, Becklas, Nico e Mateus OP: You guys are the only ones that I look at in class who make me start laughing for no reason. Although everything we do is pretty much stupid, I still respect each and every one of you for simply being who you are. The memories that we created for every hangout will always be engraved in my soul and I’ll cherish these moments forever.

My name is Jenny Yiran Zhang. I will be graduating from Chapel in 2024 and I will try to give you an overall view of my story. I was born and raised in Brazil, but my parents came from China, so I would describe myself as a mixture of two totally different cultures. The IB was a great challenge from the start, and even though I wasn’t feeling my best, I succeeded with grades and discipline. I pushed myself to my limit and tried to turn in everything as perfectly as possible. My message to everyone is to have all the tasks organized during your IB journey and take good care of yourself.
Finally, thank you all!
Especially Mr. Sean Quinn; my teachers; Mr. Donald Campbell; Ms. Erika Ferreira and Mr. Colin Weaver; Ms. Renata Meints; Ms. Sylvia Almeida; Mr. Vinicius Talarico; Mr. Jean Silva; Mr. Bryan Sanders; Mr. Bradford Cannon; Ms. Magna Martins; Mr. Erick Santana; all office assistants and Library staff, Ms. Ana Lucia Oliveira and Ms. Meire Silva, Ms. Marcelle Machado, Ms. Isabela Maretti and Ms. Andreza Teixeira, Mr. Ronaldo Souza; Ms. Renata Pannunzio for taking care of me and being so nice with me through the year; my friends Marta, Derick, Pedro, Stella, João, and others from 2024 group for supporting me and being by my side. I would also like to thank my mom, dad, my two aunts, and my sister for loving me.

Favorite Sports: Jiu-jitsu, boxing and lifting weights Best Chapel Memory: Four square with the boys Plans After Chapel: I wish to get accepted into an engineering school, as I hope to pursue the same career as my father. It is not very clear to me if I will stay here or if I will go abroad, but one thing is certain: I will continue to work on myself physically and get bigger and bigger.
When IB started it was well known that everything would start to take a turn to the more challenging side of academics. However, knowing this I still did not sacrifice the social time I had with friends and family. Chapel School offered students a challenging experience in our studies, but I found it to be imperative that we as students helped each other through the whole process. I want to start off by thanking my close friends, as if it weren’t for you my life would definitely have been 100x worse.
Either way, although it was challenging, this community has been part of my life for around 12 years. I’ve been part of this community ever since Kindergarten and I am proud to say that my social identity has been built around this school. My last semester at Chapel will most likely be spent studying for the IB and mocks, but it was a fun ride while it lasted. My final message for all is to make sure that you are able to balance what you want to do and what you have to do. This is the tricky part of the “job”. Once you manage to do that, you will find equilibrium and you will be able to enjoy every second of it.

PARENT MESSAGES TO SENIORS
Alexandre Trompeter Curi_

Nicolas Leonardo Razzotti_
How far we’ve come together, the adventures, experiences, challenges. You, always by our side, facing everything with serenity, responsibility and constancy. From small steps to leaps, now launched towards the future. Who will stop you now? Watching you leave, spreading your wings, is bittersweet, yet fills us with immense pride for your every achievement and the virtuous man you are becoming. The years ahead will be challenging and fun. Keep your curiosity, perseverance, and sense of gratitude, and rest assured that your efforts will bring much wisdom and satisfaction. A bright future ahead of you. The stars the limit, The nobility of the soul the compass. Your family always by your side.

Acerte a bússola e tome o leme.

No estarás solas sabes? Estaremos en cada paso q hagas. Siempre has sido divinamente única PD puedes quédate conmigo, Maē

Art Lab serves students as both a Lab and a Club, supporting them to catch up with the Art class, produce Art projects for any other subject, or simply to enjoy their Art making in a variety of techniques! Students come with their wishes of what to do, and receive suggestions of activities as well. It is also an opportunity for other clubs and organizations to produce props, boards and boxes, as for example some panels for Drama Club or posters for STUCO! Some of the activities that happen during Art Lab are: panels, posters, paintings, sculptures, jewelry, wood burning, and school projects.

Craft’s Club_
Advisor: Ms. Livia Galeote_
The goal of Craft’s Club is to provide a creative space and experimentation of materials and various techniques of manual arts. The students participating in the Craft’s Club were able to try crochet techniques with different materials. In addition, all students have developed their personal hand art projects such as notebook covers and other personal use accessories. The most experienced students taught the basic techniques to those who did not yet know crochet. They also participated in a Book Fair activity, in which they used techniques of using felt in a workshop for children.

Kino Film Production Club_
Advisor: Mr. Jean Silva _
The Kino Film Production Club is inspired by the Kino project: “A film-making movement that advocates little to no budget projects.” This experience helped us realize the amount of sacrifice that goes into producing films. From brainstorming the argument to showing the movie, writing the script, choosing the shots, casting the actors, filming the scenes, editing the footage, and composing the score, we were able to devote ourselves to the art of filmmaking. The focus of this year’s meeting was to work on the next movie of the club, a spoof horror film.

We practiced weekly and competed in the Recife Knowledge Bowl Tournament in March. We placed 5th.

Mr. Brian Manning_
Model United Nations (MUN) aims to promote awareness of global issues through the simulation of the United Nations and related international organizations. Students met every Friday after school throughout the year to practice debating controversial issues, to conduct research on current political events, and to practice speaking and writing.
Chapel also puts on an internal conference, CHAMUN, where students debated the Afghan Refugee Crisis, where Sophia Hirschfield chaired the committee and Barbara Monte Alto won the Best Delegate Award. Students also participated and succeeded in a number of external conferences at Avenues, St. Nicholas, St. Paul’s and BRAMUN in Bahia. At Avenues, André Laranja, Bernardo Dagnoni, Sara Pontes, Luiza Hanftwurzel, Barbara Monte Alto, and Maria Beatriz Nagano all won the award for Most Outstanding Delegation. Sophia Hirschfeld and Henri Martin also served as chairs for their respective committees. At St. Nicholas, Luca Perrotti, Valentina Villarroel, and Sophia Hirschfield who won the Best Delegation Award. Luiza Hanftwurzel and Henri Martin won the awards for the Most Outstanding Delegation, while Vibha Komala won the award for Best Speaker. Chapel also took home the MOST OUTSTANDING DELEGATION AWARD. This was quite the achievement as there were nine other schools from all over Brazil in attendance. At St. Paul’s, Henri Martin won the award for Best Delegation and Vibha Komala won Best speaker.
The highlight of the year came at BRAMUN, the last conference of the year, where the students stayed at the Costa do Sauipe Resort. Once again, Chapel came away with some individual awards as Diego Unzueta and Henri Martin won the Best Speaker award for their work in the Political Committee.

NHS National Honor Society_ Advisor: Mr. Bryan Sanders_
The National Honor Society (NHS) is an organization which aims to grant students the opportunity to better their community. By empowering well-rounded students, NHS provides schools with a values-based framework to elevate a culture of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.
The NHS is committed to charity projects. Our main project during this school year was the “Green Day Project’’, which was an awareness campaign on the importance of reducing consumption and waste of recycled materials on campus. Every
Thursday, students are motivated to bring their own water bottles because of the lack of disposable cups. In addition to the “Green Day”, NJHS established a competition in which the class that brings 100% reusable bottles earns the privilege of leaving five minutes early for lunch. And in the case of the 7th Grade, which already enjoys this privilege, they could lose the benefit of an early lunchtime dismissal.
