Cymru yn Fenis Wales in Venice James Richards: Migratory Motor Complex Until / Tan 26.05.18 Richards‘ exhibition presents a suite of works including What weakens the flesh is the flesh itself (2017), a collaboration with Steve Reinke that is an extended meditation on the archive, photography and the body. The presentation in Wales also includes Not Blacking Out, Just Turning The Lights Off (2011). Tapping into seamless image streams proliferated by the mass media, the work teeters between the sensual realm and something more anxious and violent, pointing toward the experience of existing in a constant, at times oppressive, dialogue with technology. Also featured is Mercy Mercy Mercy a series of films compiled and edited by the artist and featuring works by Stuart Marshall, Stuart Baker, Chris Saunders, Julia Heyward and Stephen Sutcliffe. James Richards’ exhibition was originally commissioned by the Arts Council of Wales and Wales Arts International with support and collaboration from the Welsh Government and British Council to be presented at Cymru yn Fenis Wales in Venice for the 57th Venice Biennale of Art. The subsequent Cymru yn Fenis Wales in Venice and Scotland + Venice exhibition tour has been made possible with Art Fund support. The presentation of James Richards in Wales is generously supported by The Colwinston Charitable Trust and the Henry Moore Foundation.
Mae arddangosfa Richards, Music for the gift, yn cyflwyno cyfres o weithiau sydd yn cynnwys Motor Migratory Complex (2017), gosodiad electro-acwstig chwe sianel, a’r fideo What weakens the flesh is the flesh itself (2017), myfyrdod estynedig ar archifau, ffotograffiaeth a’r corff. Mae’r cyflwyniad yng Nghymru hefyd yn cynnwys Not Blacking Out, Just Turning The Lights Off (2011). Mae’r gwaith hwnnw’n ymwneud â ffrydiau di-ben-draw y cyfryngau torfol ac yn pendilio rhwng byd synhwyraidd a rhywbeth mwy aflonyddol a threisgar; myfyrdod ar y profiad o fod mewn perthynas barhaol — a gormesol ar adegau — â thechnoleg. Cyflwynir hefyd Mercy Mercy Mercy, cyfres o ffilmiau a gasglwyd ac a olygwyd gan yr artist, sydd yn cynnwys darnau gan Stuart Marshall, Stuart Baker, Chris Saunders, Julia Heyward a Stephen Sutcliffe. Comisiynwyd James Richards: Music for the gift gan Gyngor Celfyddydau Cymru a Chelfyddydau Rhyngwladol Cymru. Cafwyd cymorth a chydweithrediad gan Lywodraeth Cymru a’r Cyngor Prydeinig i gyflwyno’r arddangosfa yn rhaglen ‘Cymru yn Fenis’, yn 57fed Biennale Celfyddyd Fenis. Cyflwynir taith arddangosfa ‘Cymru yn Fenis’ ac ‘Yr Alban + Fenis’ gyda chymorth y Gronfa Gelf. Cyflwynir arddangosfa James Richards yng Nghymru gyda chymorth caredig Ymddiriedolaeth Elusennol Colwinston a Sefydliad Henry Moore.

Cornelia Baltes: Lightbox / Blwch golau Until / Tan 07.10.18
Cornelia Baltes’ brightly coloured paintings combine simplicity with humour and playfulness. Real-world observations are stripped back to their simplest forms creating new abstract patterns and rhythms — their bold graphic qualities often spilling out, over the surface and on to the walls and surrounding architecture in which they inhabit. For Chapter, Baltes has created two giant cartoon hands emerging from either side of the building, reaching to clasp each other in a handshake. This ‘body’ of work will also extend to our caffi bar in June when Baltes installs a new site-responsive exhibition for our Art in the Bar programme.
Mae paentiadau lliwgar Cornelia Baltes yn cyfuno symlrwydd â hiwmor ac elfennau chwareus. Mae sylwadau ar y byd go iawn yn cael eu lleihau i’w ffurfiau symlaf ac mae hynny’n creu patrymau a rhythmau haniaethol newydd; mae eu nodweddion graffigol hy yn aml yn gorlifo dros yr wyneb ac ymlaen dros y waliau a’r bensaernïaeth amgylchynol. Yn Chapter, aeth Baltes ati i greu dwy law fawr, mewn arddull cartŵn; maent yn estyn allan fel petai i ysgwyd dwylo. Bydd y ‘corff’ hwn o waith hefyd yn estyn i mewn i’n caffi bar ym mis Mehefin pan fydd Baltes yn creu arddangosfa newydd safle-benodol yn rhan o raglen Celfyddyd yn y Bar.

Fiona Grady: Shadow Play
Until / Tan 06.05.18 Fiona Grady creates site-responsive drawings on walls, windows and floors using sequences of dispersing geometric shapes. Her practice recognizes the relationship between architecture, installation art and decoration; through the exploration of light, surface and scale. Each piece changes with the light of day emphasizing the passing of time and the ephemeral nature of the work. For her exhibition, Grady has created a series of artworks on the cafe bar windows. The site-specific ‘drawings’ are composed from colourful transparent vinyl shapes — their size determined by the window panes framework. The time-based artworks brighten and glow with the changing light of day to cast colour into the room and onto the adjacent surfaces. At times they will be more visible in the interior space, only to disappear in the evenings, when they will alternatively be illuminated by the internal lights to reveal a vibrant appearance from outside the building. BIOGRAPHY Fiona Grady (b. 1984, Leeds, UK) studied BA Fine Art at the University of Wales In Cardiff (UWIC) 2004-2007 and MA Fine Art at Wimbledon School of Art (UAL) 2010- 2011. She lives and works in London. www.fionagrady.co.uk
Mae Fiona Grady yn creu lluniau safle-benodol ar waliau, ffenestri a lloriau gyda chymorth cyfresi o siapiau geometrig gwasgaredig. Mae ei gwaith yn cydnabod y berthynas rhwng pensaernïaeth, gosodwaith ac addurn, trwy archwilio golau, arwyneb a graddfa. Mae pob darn yn newid wrth i olau dydd newid, gan bwysleisio treigl amser a natur fyrhoedlog y gwaith. Ar gyfer ei harddangosfa, aeth Grady ati i greu cyfres o weithiau ar ffenestri’r caffi bar. Mae’r ‘darluniau’ saflebenodol hyn wedi eu ffurfio o siapiau finyl lliwgar tryloyw, eu maint wedi’i bennu gan ffrâm y ffenest. Mae’r gweithiau hyn, sy’n ddibynnol ar amser, yn disgleirio ac yn gloywi yn y golau newidiol ac yn taflu golau ar hyd yr ystafell a thros arwynebau cyfochrog. Ar adegau, bydd y ffurfiau’n fwy gweladwy; byddant yn diflannu dim ond gyda’r nos – bryd hynny, bydd goleuadau mewnol yn eu goleuo ac yn datgelu ffurfiau bywiog y tu allan i’r adeilad. BYWGRAFFIAD Astudiodd Fiona Grady (g. 1984, Leeds, y DG) am radd BA mewn Celfyddyd Gain ym Mhrifysgol Cymru Caerdydd (UWIC) rhwng 2004 a 2007 ac am radd MA mewn Celfyddyd Gain yn Ysgol Gelf Wimbledon (UAL) rhwng 2010 a 2011. AVANT CYMRU FEATURING / GYDA RUFUS MUFASA
People — Picture — Power — Perception There is no gender in Hip Hop, Bboys and BGirls compete against each other, female rappers take on males on the stage, guys paint the same walls as the girls. All on an equal ground. Come and join Welsh hip hop artists as we celebrate individuals and their creations and become part of our community for an evening, while we jam together. Featuring work from Rufus Mufasa’s album, Fur Coats from the Lion’s Den, and from Avant Cymru’s Blue Scar.
Nid yw hip-hop yn cydnabod ffiniau rhyweddol; mae B-Boys a B-Girls yn cystadlu yn erbyn ei gilydd, mae rapwyr benywaidd yn herio rapwyr gwrywaidd ar y llwyfan ac mae dynion yn paentio’r un waliau â’r merched. Pob un ar dir cyfartal. Dewch i ymuno ag artistiaid hip-hop Cymru, i ddathlu unigolion a’u creadigrwydd, i fwynhau bod yn rhan o gymuned, ac i jamio gyda’n gilydd am noson.
