Larissa Sansour: In the Future They Ate From the Finest Porcelain Until / Tan: 07.01.18

In the Future They Ate From the Finest Porcelain resides in the cross-section between sci-fi, archaeology and politics. Combining live motion and CGI, the film of the same title explores the role of myth for history, fact and national identity. A narrative resistance group makes underground deposits of elaborate porcelain — suggested to belong to a fictional civilisation. Their aim is to influence history and support future claims to their vanishing lands. Once unearthed, this tableware will prove the existence of this counterfeit people. By implementing a myth of its own, their work becomes a historical intervention — de facto creating a nation. The exhibition also features artefacts including the porcelain of the title and a new suspended sculptural installation.

Mae In the Future They Ate From the Finest Porcelain yn bodoli ar y ffin rhwng ffuglen wyddonol, archaeoleg a gwleidyddiaeth. Yn gyfuniad o ddrama fyw a CGI, mae’r ffilm â’r un enw yn archwilio rôl chwedloniaeth mewn canfyddiadau o hanes, ffaith a hunaniaeth genedlaethol. Mae grŵp pwyso yn cuddio porslen cain dan ddaear ac yn awgrymu ei fod yn perthyn i wareiddiad ffuglennol. Nod y grŵp yw dylanwadu ar hanes a sicrhau bod ganddynt hawl ar y tir yn y dyfodol. Ar ôl i’r crochenwaith gael ei ddarganfod, bydd yn brawf o fodolaeth y bobl ffug. Drwy roi myth ar waith, mae’r gwaith yn troi’n ymyrraeth hanesyddol — ac yn creu cenedl de facto. Mae’r arddangosfa hefyd yn cyflwyno arteffactau sydd yn cynnwys gwaith porslen y teitl ynghyd â gosodiad cerfluniol newydd.

ART IN THE BAR / CELFYDDYD YN Y BAR

Minyoung Choi 17.11. 17—04.03.18

Minyoung Choi’s paintings are dominated by her memories and her imagination. At first glance the dreamlike scenes seem to suggest a narrative; figures are seen sharing food together in a forest clearing, or on bent knees making offerings. However it is the items that are placed in these settings that are of more importance to the artist. Choi collects images of objects that interest her or bring her pleasure; images from her imagination, from history and the everyday. When positioned in these landscapes the objects take on a new kind of symbolism, making them exist once again, together at the same time. Through the process of painting, rebuilding and reimagining she aims to establish a connection to landscapes and places that she longs for. Mae paentiadau Minyoung Choi yn cael eu cymell gan ei hatgofion a’i dychymyg. Ar yr olwg gyntaf, mae’r golygfeydd breuddwydiol fel petaent yn awgrymu naratif; gwelir ffigurau’n rhannu bwyd gyda’i gilydd mewn coedwig, neu ar eu pengliniau yn cynnig offrymau. Ond yr eitemau a osodir yn y lleoliadau hyn sydd o bwys gwirioneddol i’r artist. Mae Choi yn casglu delweddau o wrthrychau sydd o ddiddordeb iddi neu yn peri pleser iddi; delweddau o’i dychymyg neu o fywyd bob dydd. Ac ar ôl cael eu gosod yn y tirweddau hyn, mae’r gwrthrychau yn codi math newydd o symbolaeth, sydd yn gwneud iddynt fodoli unwaith eto, gyda’i gilydd. Yn y broses o baentio, ailadeiladu ac ailddychmygu, mae’r artist yn ceisio creu cysylltiad â thirweddau a mannau y mae’n dyheu amdanynt. OFFSITE / MAN ARALL

Mae ‘Music for the gift’ gan James Richards yn gorff newydd o waith sy’n cynnwys gosodiad sain, fideo a gwaith ffotograffig. Mae’n cynrychioli Cymru yn Fenis, yn un o ddigwyddiadau cyfochrog 57fed Biennale Fenis. Cafodd yr arddangosfa ei chomisiynu gan Gyngor Celfyddydau Cymru a’i churadu gan Chapter. Mae’r arddangosfa’n cyflwyno cyfres o weithiau newydd gan Richards sy’n cynnwys gosodwaith electro-acwstig chwe sianel, fideo a wnaed ar y cyd â’i gydweithredwr Steve Reinke, a phrintiau inkjet wedi’u gosod ar alwminiwm. Performance / Perfformiadau

Hardy Animal Laura Dannequin 17.11 + 18.11 8pm

Hardy Animal is a tender solo that looks at chronic pain and human resilience. A goodbye letter to a former self and an ode to dance.

Piano, dance and text solos, edited around strict rhythmic structures span the overtly political, the understated and the oblique, ranging in temperament and emotion from the extremely calm and extremely harmonic, to the extremely loud and the extremely vulgar. There will definitely be extremely bad dancing to extremely French music.

‘It is entirely excellent, it’s defiant, and angry and sad and funny and beautiful and brave and just so very very good indeed.’ Daniel Kitson
