THE TREASURER CHEST updates for club treasurers
TINA'S TIPS a friendly advice column
“Tina, I’m a complete mess. How do I keep myself organized and make my job easier?” What I do to keep everything organized is to create a spreadsheet keeping track of all my expenses. For example, I make columns for all my fundraisers as well as the purpose for each fundraiser, like the governor’s project, PTP, and etc. I’m able to easily figure out how much I’ve raised for each charity and it makes it a lot easier to fill out MRFs, TRAs, and awards.
“I can tell that member activity has been decreasing as we continue throughout the year. How can I improve member retention within my club?” As winter comes along, many clubs experience what I like to call “member hibernation” or “WIAGTME” (WHY ISN’T ANYONE GOING TO MY EVENTS). I don’t know if it was obvious but I made that acronym up lol, but it’s time to get creative and think of incentives to get members to go to more events! What I have found to be effective is to offer members a chance to be entered in a raffle. Whenever they go to events, they will be entered in a raffle for a chance to win prizes! What you offer to your club is totally up to you, but make sure it’ll get your members excited and want to go to your events.
“How do I fundraise for DCON?” DCON as we all know is a bit pricy, so it’s beneficial to fundraise for it in order to decrease the price and convince more members to go. However, it is important that you remember that
100
% of the proceeds from fundraisers that involve the general
public go to charity. These include bake sales, garage sales, and essentially anything that involves strangers. If the money is coming from members within your club, the profit can go towards your DCON. Some ideas are
flyer fundraisers, auctions, and
sports tournaments.
“My club is fairly small and it’s difficult to make a lot of money when not that many people show up to my fundraisers. How do I make more money considering my situation?” When it comes to problems like your own club not going to your fundraisers, get other clubs to go. Now you're probably asking,”how would I get other schools and/or clubs to come to my fundraisers?” I believe that it's important to create relationships with people outside your club, and by doing this you can go to their events. When you go to other clubs’ events, it's shows them that you're a team player, and they will probably want to help you back. It's important to create stronger bonds with other schools/clubs as an officer in general, because you will probably need to work with them in the future and it creates a better image for yourself. From my own experience, building relationships with other clubs is how I get my fundraisers to be more successful.

THE TREASURER CHEST updates for club treasurers
'TIS THE SEASON to be
FUNDRAISING
Ice Skating Call the local ice skating rink and ask to have a fundraiser!
Christmas Caroling Gather your members and host a Christmas Caroling Event. Start by making a flyer explaining who you are, when you’re coming around, and if you're collecting donations of some sort.
Christmas Social Decorate stockings and ornaments at a price- Host a social and charge for admission. Include activities such as decorating stockings and ornaments for a good bonding time between members or watch a Christmas movie together. You could either provide food or make it a potluck!
Hot Cocoa / holiday bake sale Talk to you school and sell hot chocolate and other foods such as donuts or breakfast burritos before school. For a bake sale, find a location where you can sell seasonal holiday treats such as sugar cookies, homemade rice krispy treats with red and green M&Ms, or cake pops.
Holiday Grams Sell holiday grams at school attached with candy canes or chocolate
For example, Rancho Campana KIWIN’S hosted a potluck and went caroling around the neighborhood and asked houses to donate any non-perishable food which would be donated to a local homeless shelter. There are many other ways to carol so get creative!!
