a boutique hotel charlie krawczel

hotel namesti Inspired by the city’s relationship between Prague’s iconic red roofs and multitude of plazas, Hotel Namesti strives to foster a culture of communication. In order to create an impactful memory for it’s visitors, the hotel provides many opportunities that wouldn’t be available at just any hotel.

the site

The building is located in the residential district of Vinohrady, not far from the city’s famous Old Town. On the corner of Jugoslávská and Bělehradská, the hotel has direct access to Tyl Square, which hosts a farmers market. Throughout the neighborhood, pastel buildings line the streets, housing lively cafes and shops. The Church of St. Ludmila in Náměstí Míru, which translates to Peace Square, is the district’s hub.

spatial concept

the restaurant

When looking at the city of Prague from a birds-eye-view, there is an overall color to the built landscape. The bright orange from the roofs spans the city, Every now and then however, there is an open spot of green or grey, which signifies a park or a square. Usually these areas surround a church, tower, or other similar building. In contrast to the red clay roofs, the roofs of those buildings are either grey and filled with spires, or a light mint green.

the hotel

Private spaces in multi-use buildings usually occupy the upper floors. Using that strategy, The private hotel rooms apart from the hostel will be located on this floor. This provides guests with children or just those who want more privacy to feel more comfortable.

the hostel

The premise behind the layout and use of the second level of the hotel is taken from the nature of multi-use buildings. Just like how the first floor of many buildings is used for things like shopping, dining, and socializing, the second floor is reserved for hostel living and a co-working space to encourage the building of an inner community that contributes to the hotel’s brand.

the lobby

The first level of the hotel includes the lobby, cafe, exercise room and admin spaces. Open to the public, this floor allows people to venture in and socialize, discovering new things by interacting with different people.

the lobby

The Lobby Consisting of the main lounge area and a cafe open to the public, the first level of Hotel Namesti brings an opportunity for guests and locals to mingle. Since the cafe is part of the hotel, but doesn’t exist solely for the guests. People from surrounding neighborhoods or those visiting from other areas are welcome to stop in for a bite, use the space to work remotely, or just for a chat. This will foster an environment that promotes immersion in the area’s local culture, while creating chances for interactions with people one normally wouldn’t have staying at a traditional hotel.

the hostel

The Hostel The next floor is inspired by the relationship between the retail space of the city and the plaza. As a bridge between the public area outside and the private area inside, the second floor hostel provides a communal area for socialization as well as private sleeping pods. The left half of the floor is open to all and includes a shared kitchen, lounge areas, and co-ed sleeping pods and bathroom. For women’s safety and comfort, the right side of the floor is dedicated to an all-female living area and bathroom. Between the two sides in the “plaza” area, there are two pool tables, space for playing cards, and a bar top for people who need to work remotely.

the hotel

The Hotel The third level of the hotel is the traditional hotel floor. It consists of five different types of rooms to cater to a range of budgets. The first type, the economy, is the most affordable. The room provides guests with the bare minimum: a bed, bathroom and multi-use desk/ storage. The second type, the most expensive, is a suite-style room, similar to a studio apartment and is designed to be usable for extended stay guests. The third type of room is the flex room. It has one bed , but can accommodate a second if requested. The fourth type of room is the traditional double room. The fifth type of room is ADA compliant, but can be a flex room when not used as an accessible room.

the restaurant

The Restaurant The whole top floor is reserved for the restaurant. Like all the red roofs of the city coming together as one to create a single landscape, there are many parts that make up the whole floor. Unlike many restaurants, this fourth floor restaurant utilizes mobile, lightweight furniture to assist with the space’s multifunctionality. The left side of the floor is used for the bar and lounge exclusively, but the right side of the floor can be easily rearranged to accommodate live events like stand-up comedy, karaoke nights, and live music.

the open mic The right side of the fourth floor restaurant is filled with lightweight furniture that can be easily moved to adapt to the changing needs of the live events held at the restaurant. The incorporation of these live events brings in the neighborhood and other visitors to the hotel and promotes local talent, as well as bringing in more traction for the hotel as a whole.
