A group of young rockers came together one summer to make sweet rock n’ roll music all summer long. After weeks of teamwork, singing, laughing, playing, and creating the best memories of their lives, they made the best song of all time. They called it Camp Baker, and together with their band managers, backup singers, and their trusty tour bus, they recorded that song to enjoy for many years to come. Why choose Camp Baker? Because we offer something for everyone, all in your own backyard. We are camping professionals, educators, and experienced child care staff, all committed to giving your child quality summer experiences. Year after year, our parents have consistently rated us the #1 summer camp in the Lowcountry! Campers return not only because of the fun they have had and the friends they have made, but because of the staff who return year after year to give them the summer of a lifetime. For over 65 years, Camp Baker staff has been helping campers grow, develop and create memories that will last forever. Join us, and let your child’s tour begin.

Brian Debolt Camp Baker Director

Hello camp families! My name is Brian DeBolt and I am excited to be returning as your director for another memorable summer at Camp Baker. Camp has made me the person I am today as I have seen firsthand the positive impact it can make in a child’s life. I have thirteen years of camp experience with six spent in the role of director. I am currently a second grade teacher at Summerville Elementary and head coach of the Lady Wave soccer team at Summerville High school. I hold an undergraduate degree in elementary education, a master’s degree in special education and 30 hours in administration. My family consists of my wonderful wife of almost four years and our two dogs Bennett and Sadie. When I am not working, I am most likely to be found playing soccer with friends. I look forward to another great summer at Camp Baker.

Rachael Smilowitz Camp Baker Assistant Director

Hello Camp Baker Families, My name is Rachael Smilowitz and this will be my third summer at Camp Baker. I am so excited for another summer working at the JCC! During the school year, I work for the Charleston County School District as a Middle School Math Instructional Coach (I basically teach the teachers!), I have a degree in elementary education, a Master’s degree in middle school math, and a second Master’s degree in educational administration. I have over thirteen years teaching experience. I also have worked at several different camps. I served as an overnight camp counselor for five years in the Philadelphia area and then as a division head at the JCC Camps in Medford, New Jersey for three summers. Not only am I camp staff, I am also a parent of two campers! My two children will be in the seven year old group and the ten year old group this summer. They have spent the past four years at Camp Baker and look forward to it each summer. I also look forward to my summers at Camp Baker since it gives me a way to get out of the classroom and play with the kids! I can’t wait for a summer that will truly ROCK! My door is always open for anything I can do to help make your camper’s summer amazing!

Dawn Schwab ECE Director

Hi, I would like to introduce myself to all the new and returning campers and their families. My name is Dawn Schwab and I am an Addlestone three year old preschool teacher. This is my second year working at Addlestone and my second summer working with the JCC summer camp program. I have a B/K degree teaching young children as well as an Art/Ed K-12 teaching degree. I moved here from NC where I taught kindergarten for ten years and before that, I taught deaf children in preschool. I am married and have four wonderful children of my own. Working at Camp Baker last summer was one of the most rewarding summers I have experienced. Working with the children and developing invaluable lifelong relationships with them and their families was one of the greatest parts of my position. Working at Camp Baker has allowed me to create a significant and positive impact with the children in my care as well as allowing me the opportunity to put smiles on faces. Summer camp was a job that gave back so much more in return, creating memories not only for the children, but also for myself that will last a lifetime.

Robin Shuler

Camp Baker Song Leader Shalom y'all, My name is Robin Shuler and I'm the Songleader & Jewish Culture Specialist at Camp Baker. Last summer was the very first time I'd ever taught at Camp Baker, and I had so much fun, I couldn't wait to do it again. I'm the songleader at Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim Synagogue (KKBE). I lead music for Religious School, Family, and Tot Shabbat Services. I'm also the Youth Advisor for KKBE, working with the teens in the Senior Youth Group (named CHARLEY). And I'm really looking forward to making new friends too!

Chelsea Parker Camp Baker Registrar

Shalom camp families! I’m Chelsea Parker, joining you once again for a summer of fun, happiness, and lots of memories. I graduated with a degree in Psychology from the College of Charleston in 2012, and have worked full time at the JCC since then. I started my Camp Baker adventure as a camp counselor two years ago, and of course last year had the pleasure of serving you as Camp Registrar. I’m excited to return to my post and help kick-start your campers’ fun this year, guiding you through all the fantastic programs Camp Baker has to offer in 2014. I can’t wait to see all my camp friends from last year, and look forward to meeting a ton of new ones, too! It would be my pleasure to answer any questions you might have about Camp Baker, the programs we offer, or the JCC in general. Please don’t hesitate to call or email me- I’m always available!
