FALL DESIGN LECTURE SERIES _07

Fall Lecture Series While studying at Kent State University, I was given the opportunity to take part in the organization of the 2007 Spring Lecture Series. Upon returning in the fall, three undergraduate students, including myself, became the lead student coordinators of the 2007 Fall Design Lecture Series.

As part of our responsibilities, we took on the establishment of a graphic identity for the series as well as personally inviting the lecturers. With the help of our former Dean, Steven Fong, and Assistant Dean, Diane Davis, we were able to invite Squint/Opera, Tronic Studio, Bruce Mau, and Winy Maas. We were also placed in charge of procurement of partial funding for the series. This entailed creating a presentation of all necessary allocations, as well as active liaisons during contract negotiations with both lecturers and administrators at Kent State. I am presently Co-Student Coordinator of the 2008 Spring Lecture Series.

Tronic is a NYC-based multimedia studio founded by Columbia Architecture graduates Jesse Seppi and Vivian Rosenthal. Their work moves between film, animation, architecture, and experiential design. They’ve delivered unique digital visions for both RES and Creative Review; directed spots for Nike, GE, and Adidas; conceived and executed installations for Diesel, Sharp, and Wired. In General, Tronic as worked to eliminate lines delineating one form of creative media output from another. These visual futurists are boldly combining architecture, graphic design, film, and animation through new uses of technology to create striking and conceptually based work.

gallery guide

tronic gallery The lecture series also involved the installation of a gallery for Tronic Studio. As co-curator of the event, in collaboration with Greg Evans, my responsibilities included the procurement of funding and space for the event, working with Tronic Studios, obtaining media and materials, and designing the gallery itself. Collaborating with Prof. Jason Turnidge and a group of friends, I was able to design, fabricate and install the gallery in a limited time frame. Working on a very tight budget, and trying to achieve the look of a digitally formulated space, the gallery was constructed out of polystyrene plastic held together with zip ties. Florescent lights illuminated printed media from Tronic movies, and flat panel monitors display looping motion graphics as well.
