Spicy Monkey Clothing LLC Spicy Monkey Clothing is a t.shirt company formed with two other friends in high school. The initial goal of the company was to hand print humorous shirts for ourselves and friends. Upon trying to design and print the shirts ourselves, we soon discovered we could not keep up with demands from our friends in a timely manner, so we turned to sending our designs to a screen printer. In the early stages, our company focused on mostly ‘home-town’ designs, as well as college humor. The company has since evolved, and become an outlet for my personal artwork. As an owner, lead designer, web designer, and business manager, I took over every facet of the company and was able to produce over 500 shirts while managing to turn a profit.

Restless Works

Restless Works is a design collaborative formed by myself and two other students from Kent State University; Danny Wills and Greg Evans. Danny is now studying at The Cooper Union. 4
The focus of the collaborative was to provide an outlet for our common desires to pursue graphic arts. We have worked on projects ranging from identity and logo work to t.shirt and apparel creation.

Through the collaborative, we have been able to push one another further in design, and take on projects which could not be managed by a single person. We were also fortunate enough to take an independent study titled ‘Graphic Design in Architecture’ with former Dean, Steven Fong, using the curriculum from The University of Toronto.

End of Semester Review Poster and postcards advertising the end of semester review of two design studios. The reviews represent the culmination of all work done over the course of a semester. The ‘studio machine’ was created to represent the process and stages every designer goes through when completing a project.
Beaux Arts Ball . 2007 Working through Restless Works, a set of poster and postcards were done for the annual Beaux Arts Ball. Playing off the events theme of ‘culture shock,’ characters were developed representing different cultural extremes throughout the world. The diversity of characters ranged from different cultures based on an ethnic or national background to the division of a culture within society. These characters were then sculpted out of clay and photographed.

Architecture, fashion and interior design collaborate to create an exhibition of twisted culture shock, to outreach and open the minds and ideas of the cultures surrounding us. This exhibition will celebrate the striking collision of these designs.

Cleveland Foundation The Cleveland Foundation is the largest charitable organization in Ohio, and one of the largest in America. In a re-branding campaign, the Foundation held an open competition to redesign their logo. As the first project entered under the name Restless Works, we produced a set of three logo options for the competition. We were selected as one of two runners up in the event, and were published in the foundations newsletter advertising the top three entries.

The focus of the practices were geared towards the use of ‘energy psychology’ as a new method of treatment. To show these, it was necessary to create an identity which was both elegant and professional yet ever evolving, like the energy used in the psychology practice. Working with Restless Works, a series of logos were created with characteristics that could evolve. The watercolor mark was much more about an identity than a permanent, static logo.
