MASTERPLAN STAGE AND FOLLIES Follies placed at key nodes identified on the previous page. The follies range from signage in the form of the stage to full-scale parts which can be passed through, welcoming visitors to the event. A folly is situated on the hilltop, visible from the road, advertising the department to all passers-by. The follies can serve a variety of functions; bars, information and purely visual.

CONCEPT THE PRIMITIVE HUT

A PRIMITIVE HUT: In its purest form Laugier’s Primitive Hut performs in the same way as a stage. It serves as shelter, protecting inhabitants from the elements. The addition of a floor turns the primitive hut into a podium, a platform for observation and to be observed. Instantly recognisable as a the most pure form of dwelling, a strong visual identity is born.

DESIGN THROUGH MODEL

The structure is composed of a repeating frame, forming a tent-like portal. In model form, identical sections were used, which could be made and assembled quickly. Hinged connections and cables allow the stage to be easily constructed on uneven surfaces.

CONSTRUCTION AND ASSEMBLY

MACHINE TIMBER

FABRICATE FRAMES

Based on a tent-like structure the frame is held together under tension by cleated cables, anchored to the ground at each corner. This reduces the need for extra material connecting the frames together.
