Brief 3: Spur: Volume 2 Brief Design an engaging and interactive layout for the content of the second issue of the cultural publication Spur.

Background / Considerations "Spur Publication is about recognising what is new and establishing itself, we are on the look out for new artists, galleries, projects, publications etc. and want to be able to gather all these things together and showcase them, as well as forming an on going archive of current and up to date art and culture in Leeds and further afield.�

Spur is a quarterly publication that launched in November 2012; aiming to have wide ranging content and an ever-changing and developing format.

Brief 4: Cerebral Extension (extended) Brief Refine and expand the Cerebral Extension brand. Looking further into the way people learn and how graphic design can help people effectively take in information.

Background / Considerations We are always encouraged to be individual, but when it comes to learning, everyone is part of the same system. Neurologically we are different and this needs to be recognised when educating people.

Consider different types of learner and the most effective way of educating them through an informed approach to design. Look into modernist and postmodernist methods of applying design.

Brief 6: ISTD: It happened on this day Brief Consider how best to interpret the project theme.

Background / Considerations Is it what happened through the centuries on a specific day in the month/year or could it be the story of one particular day in time? The ʻBig Bangʼ; Battle of Hastings; the first pulls of Gutenbergʼs 42-line bibleʼ; Elvis Presley on the Ed Sullivan Show; assassination of JFK; Liverpoolʼs European Cup win in 2005 or the atrocity of 9/11 – you are spoilt for choice.

Brief 9: Designing Music Brief A research driven, results based brief whereby album artwork is redesigned to measure how we perceive music before we listen to it. Consider how best to interpret the project theme.

Background / Considerations A physical investigation into how we judge a book by its cover- album artwork and how the viewer perceives the music before they have heard it.

Look into existing famous album artwork that have a more 驶notorious始 design direction that don始t seem to necessarily relay the audio of the music.

Elements: The Evolution of Hip Hop; Exhibition & Workshops Brief Produce the wayfinding and art direction for a two-day event on the evolution of Hip Hop. Design material for the event to aid informing the audience on where Hip Hop has come from to where it is going. The written, designed information has to congruently work with the physical workshops of the event.

Background / Considerations Educate and celebrate: the design direction has to be clear, informative and most importantly immediate. Think about how hip hop has grown over the years- research into the visual culture of the movement to inform design decisions. Look into how people take in information effectively- working from the idea that people learn most effectively from positive experiences.

Mandatory Requirements - 3 selected typefaces throughout - Image based work alongside type setting information.
