END OF MODULE SELF-EVALUATION NAME

1. What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them? Through this module I have developed my foresight. For example, in DP2 I knew I would have to print out and that the print room would be busy, so I booked a slot a month before I had to print and a week before my deadline. This in a sense is my time management. This early booking meant I could photograph and edit my work in time for the deadline without stress. I have also developed my type and layout skills immensely. This, for me, was the whole point of this module. In DP2 I specifically chose to work with type and layout because I know it is something I want to develop in my final year of study and possibly work with when I leave the course. DP2 has made me consider my designs so much more and has forced me to study every little detail to give a more professional looking final outcome.

2. What approaches to/methods of design production have you developed and how have they informed your design development process? I have experimented with different print methods that are appropriate to my audience. For example, in DP2 I experimented with foiling onto acetate and as a result came up with a really effective outcome. In DP1 I utilised other processes such as the lasercutter to give my work a professional finish that forces the viewer to touch itreinforcing the concept of the whole project. Every aspect of my design production in both projects have been utilised because they make the concept concrete. Everything has a reason behind it.

3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these? Specifically from Design Practice 2 it is evident that I can now edit and photograph my work to look more professional. I have also learned that designs do not need to be finalised to mock them up onto a presentation board. I plan on using this new found skill in all future projects to give the look of a more professional designer. I will also use It for uploading work onto my site for a sleeker looking website that could potentially get me work. In Design Practice 1 I feel although my collaborative skills were tested, I have gained the strength to take charge and make things happen when a project is going slow. I will capitalise on this strength in the future by always reminding myself of that experience when my work is going slow, and forcing myself to reflect and get on with something

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these in the future? There is a definite evident weakness in Design Practice 1, where I found myself constantly unmotivated and unwilling to do work. In time I overcame this through pressure of deadlines set by myself. This weakness meant that the project didn始t develop as fully as it could have done. At the start, when me and my partner had

enthusiasm, I developed the concept so fully that there was real potential for a really considered and original outcome. But this unfortunately didn始t happen, and we were left with an undeveloped outcome and range. In the future I plan on addressing this by setting myself strict personal deadlines- giving myself pressure.

5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these? - I plan to set myself strict personal deadlines on a morning / afternoon / daily / weekly (and so on) basis, that will add the pressure needed for me to get work done in unmotivated circumstances, - I will set aside more time to photograph and edit my work as I know this is an aspect that had worked well for me in DP2, giving my work a professional look. - I will come in an hour early every morning before college so that I can start my day and get into the working mind set before teaching times. - I will book print multiple print slots in digital print extremely early. Multiple slots in case I need to make amendments and early bookings in case it is busy. - Sleep more! Effective design is not created when you are tired. Reasoning and justifying everything you do is very hard with a lack of sleep.

6.How would you grade yourself on the following areas: (please indicate using an 驶x始) 5= excellent, 4 = very good, 3 = good, 2 = average, 1 = poor 1 2 3 4 5 x Attendance x Punctuality x Motivation x Commitment x Quantity of work produced x Quality of work produced x Contribution to the group The evaluation of your work is an important part of the assessment criteria and represents a percentage of the overall grade. It is essential that you give yourself enough time to complete your written evaluation fully and with appropriate depth and level of self-reflection. If you have any questions relating to the self evaluation process speak to a member of staff as soon as possible.
