Yes TO ALL OF THE ABOVE,

we’d like to talk with you and share information about our Latin Fellows program designed to attract, train and support newly graduated, diverse teachers. Charlotte Latin School is committed to the development of promising novice teachers from historically underrepresented groups by providing one-on-one mentoring and skill building in the first year of teaching.

LATIN FELLOWS PROVIDES: • Competitive salary plus optional benefits

• Mentoring by expert teachers • On-campus bi-monthly teaching seminars

• A curriculum that is traditional in design and innovative in implementation • A supportive first step in your career as a teacher • Ongoing professional development opportunities

• Educational technology training • Observations and supportive feedback

I have been given the opportunity to observe and learn from some amazing teachers. I am also given the chance to learn and adapt to the culture of independent schools, more specifically the dynamic culture that makes up Charlotte Latin. it is important for me to make the most of this opportunity to enhance my teaching practices, by learning as much as possible and infusing this new knowledge with my own personal flair.” – Rozlyn Humphrey, Latin Fellow

How it Works • Each Fellow is given an academic assignment in one of the three divisions: Lower School, Middle School or Upper School. • The Fellow is paired with an experienced teacher who models the essential elements of effective teaching, which include lesson planning and delivery, classroom management, tactful communication, assessment and technology integration. • After a period of observation and learning through professional development, the Fellow transitions into an instructional role by leading small groups, providing individualized student assistance and working collaboratively with the experienced teacher to co-plan and deliver classroom instruction. Over time, the Fellow assumes progressively more responsibilities as an instructional leader, and with continued support from the lead teacher oversees two subject areas (in Lower School) or two classes (in Middle School or Upper School).

Being a Latin Fellow means finding your place in the Charlotte Latin community. This process is meant to help build your own identity as a teacher and community member. I can’t think of a better way to be introduced to such a complex and energetic environment.” – Valeria Hernandez, Latin Fellow
