Many even gave up their morning recess to get some early morning extra practice in with Coach Cerbie! Tournament day is full of excitement, nerves, and some epic uniforms. My favorite vacation destination is Mexico City. I love immersing myself in the rich culture there – especially the art scenes, diverse cuisine, and the warm hospitality of its people. One of my favorite memories is taking a food tour and sampling authentic dishes like mole poblano and churros with hot chocolate while talking to the chefs about the love they put into their craft.

What is your favorite kind of food?

My ultimate comfort food has to be pizza! I love experimenting with fun topping combinations, from classic pepperoni or veggie to more adventurous options like Thai chicken or Philly cheesesteak pizza. Even just the aroma of pizza baking instantly puts me in a good mood. Pizza is one dish I could truly eat anytime, anywhere and never get bored. It’s the perfect food in my book!

My favorite school memory is Mosaic Night. I loved seeing our community come together to proudly celebrate student backgrounds, cultures, and identities through dance, music, poetry, food, and more. Seeing students feel recognized and valued for who they uniquely are brings me joy.

What do you love most about Latin?

What I cherish most about Latin is the caring, kind, and supportive school community – my colleagues and students alike. People here genuinely look out for one another and build each other up. My students inspire me every day with their compassion and drive. My colleagues are always willing to lend a helping hand or offer guidance when needed.

Describe your favorite Charlotte Latin memory.

It was the fact that I was at the bottom of my class at the end of Grade 6 struggling with dyslexia and ADHD. I became a workaholic during Grade 7 and was able to graduate second in my graduating class. I’m most proud of that because it took a ton of effort and persistence to study well past midnight every night for 5 years to overcome my innate challenges. Anything is possible with hard work and consistent dedication.

And winning the State 400 meter and 800 meter during my junior and senior year.

What is something we might not know about you?

1: I have a real hard time sitting still!

2: My grandfather interviewed Hitler (as a reporter for The New York Times) and was immediately placed under house arrest in Denmark for over a year during the war. That’s where he met my grandmother (who was Miss Denmark at the time). They married and would never had met had my grandfather not been under house arrest. So as much as I detest Hitler and everything he stood for, I wouldn’t be here if my grandfather never interviewed him.

What do you love most about Latin?

It’s very simple....the Latin community. The community of faculty that I both love and respect and the community of students that I really start missing by mid-July each summer. Since I became a student here in 1975, it has been the culture and community that keeps me coming back.

Describe your favorite Charlotte Latin memory.

All of my runners know that my mantra is “Dig Deep” during my races. I share it with them and encourage them to find their own, but they are welcome to use mine. Before the state track meet last spring four of the girls took out a pen from their bag and wrote “Dig Deep” on their hands, and then circled together with their hands in the middle and took a picture. It just felt special. Then they all went out onto the track and crushed it, it was just amazing.
