Charlotte Latin School is committed to the development of promising novice teachers from historically under-represented groups by providing one-on-one mentoring and skill building in the first year of teaching.

The Latin Fellows Model • Each Fellow is given an academic assignment in one of the three divisions: Lower School, Middle School, or Upper School. • The Fellow is paired with an experienced teacher who models the essential elements of effective teaching, which include lesson planning and delivery, classroom management, thoughtful communication, assessment, professional reflection, and technology integration. • After a period of observation and learning through professional development, the Fellow transitions into an instructional role by leading small groups, providing individualized student assistance, and working collaboratively with the experienced teacher to co-plan and deliver classroom instruction. Over time, the Fellow assumes progressively more responsibilities as an instructional leader, and with continued support from the lead teacher oversees two subject areas (in Lower School) or two classes (in Middle School or Upper School).
