85% are of working age She says 85 per cent of Aids patients of around 500,000 are in the working age of 15-45 years. Of the total, 46,776 are beneficiaries of a state welfare scheme that provides antiAids medication. Amphorn notes that there is a regulation that protects Aids-infected employees from being treated unfairly, terminated, or even being forced to undergo blood tests. Mistreated employees can file lawsuits demanding compensation or even requisition of their positions in case of lay-offs. She adds that 10,000 businesses are participating in an international labour-protection scheme entitled “Aids-response Standard Organisation”. DAILY

Director-general Amphorn Nitisiri says there are 70 people with Aids dying on a daily basis, while 35 others are contracting the viral disease each day. Targeting abusers Film Act bans sexual offenders from opening cinemas or VCD/DVD stores By Mayuree Sukyingcharoenwong D A I LY X P R E S S
U
nder the 2009 National Film Act, authorities will not allow former convicted sexual offenders to open a cinema, a VCD/DVD shop or rental store. “We will check the background of those who seek an operating licence,” Film Review Office director Pradit Posew vowed at a seminar yesterday. He says the act will bar anyone who has been sentenced to jail for sexual offences from operating any such business. “That’s why we want the fingerprints of people who
request operating licences,” Pradit points out. According to him, the 2009 National Film Act will be announced in the Royal Gazette next week, after which it will take immediate effect.
‘Complicated’ procedures Soonthorn Auesurattanachai, who is authorised to seek a licence for his Imagine store in Nonthaburi, says he feels the new act has complicated procedures. “I really don’t understand why my fingerprints are needed. Why should my background be checked this deeply?” he asks. He says Imagine has sold only copyright items and there is no
pornographic material involved. “I will, of course, abide by the laws, but I feel the complicated process takes so much time,” Soonthorn laments. Under the new act, cinemas are required to announce the ratings accorded to each film. “We will abide by the rule,” a representative from SF Cinema says. “We believe the announcement will not affect the number of viewers at our cinemas.” The film-rating system has categorised films into seven groups. The first group is for films that should be promoted; the second for general audiences; the third for viewers aged 13 years or older; the fourth for viewers aged 15 or older; the fifth for viewers aged 18 or older; the sixth for viewers aged over 20, and the seventh for films banned in Thailand.
“The Royal Household Bureau says that His Majesty has already given his approval,” Information Department director-general Vimon Kidchob said yesterday. Koedijk is the owner of FA P Koeddiik & Zn in The Netherlands.
Impressed with loyalty He wishes to name the new tulip species after the Thai monarch because he is impressed with Thais’ overwhelming loyalty to the King. The loyalty was particularly evident during celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of His Majesty’s accession to the throne. Koedijk feels close to Thailand because his son used to be a computer-teaching volunteer here between 2006 and 2007.
Creamy yellow flower The “King Bhumibol” tulip has a creamy yellow flower. Measured with its stem, the tulip stands about 45 centimetres high. The new species has been developed from the “Prince Claus” species, which is a strain from Judith Leyster. The “Prince Claus” species is named after HM Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands.

Fresh proof shows life could exist in space Comet dust contains traces of glycine, a compound vital to human existence A F P , Washington
S
cientists have uncovered fresh evidence that life could exist beyond Earth, with research showing that comet dust contains traces of a compound vital to human existence. Researchers probing dust and gas collected from the Wild 2 comet by US space agency Nasa’s Stardust spacecraft in 2004 found traces of the amino acid glycine, lending credence to idea that there is life elsewhere in the universe. “The discovery of glycine in a comet supports the idea that
the fundamental building blocks of life are prevalent in space, and strengthens the argument that life in the universe may be common rather than rare,” said Carl Pilcher, one of the space agency’s top astrobiologists.
‘Life’s ingredients formed in space’ Jamie Elsila, lead author of the report, said the findings also support the idea that the material elements of human life may have come from space. “Our discovery supports the theory that some of life’s in-
gredients formed in space and were delivered to Earth long ago by meteorite and comet impacts,” she said. The group’s final findings confirm suspicions that the amino acid – which creates the proteins that form the building blocks of life – were not simply Earth-sourced contamination. “We discovered that the Stardust-returned glycine has an extraterrestrial carbon isotope signature, indicating that it originated on the comet,” said Elsila. Twenty different amino acids are arranged to build the millions of different proteins that make up everything from hair to enzymes, Nasa said.
A magazine model has finally confronted an anonymous female New York blogger who called her offensive names on a Google website. Liskula Cohen, who successfully sued Google to unmask the blogger, told “Good Morning America” that she called her tormentor and said she forgives her. Cohen did not reveal the blogger’s name but said she was an acquaintance whom Cohen saw at parties and restaurants. The Vogue cover girl says she has not ruled out suing the blogger. The anonymous remarks targeting Cohen’s hygiene and sexual habits were posted on Google’s Blogger.com. The blogger’s lawyer had argued that although the comments may have been disgusting, they were opinions and protected as free speech.
Lord of the ring A New Zealand man who promised his wife he would find his wedding ring after it fell into the capital’s murky harbour has been successful – 16 months later. Ecologist Aleki Taumoepeau was checking Wellington harbour for invasive plant species in March last year when the ring fell into the water. “It flew off into the air and everyone on the boat said it was like a scene from ‘Lord of the Rings’ in slow motion,” Rachel Taumoepeau said. An initial search three months after the loss failed, but Taumoepeau was determined. He returned again recently for another dive, risking chill midwinter temperatures. He spotted the anchor – with the ring lying just inches away. – AP

Police launched a massive search after two well-dressed men, armed with handguns, walked into a central London jewellery store on August 6 and stole dozens of rings, bracelets, necklaces and watches with a retail value of £40 million (Bt2.25 billion). As the robbers left the shop they fired at a security guard and later fired a second shot as members of the public attempted to intervene. The police did not release any more details. AP

Muslim model who will be caned for drinking beer said yeterday that she asked Malaysian authorities to punish her in public instead of in a prison, but they refused to go against official procedures. Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno, 32, is scheduled next week to be the first woman in Muslimmajority Malaysia to be flogged under Islamic law after she was arrested in a raid and sentenced by a Shariah court for drinking alcohol at a hotel lounge last year. “I want to send a message that I really regret what I did, so I want to be punished in front of other people,” Kartika said in a telephone interview from her northern home state of Perak. “If other Muslims can see me
IF OTHER MUSLIMS CAN SEE ME BEING CANED,I HOPE IT WILL CONVINCE THEM NOT TO DRINK. Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno being caned, I hope it will convince them not to drink.” Kartika said prison officials turned down her request, saying she will be lashed six times with a rattan cane without any
public witnesses sometime early next week.
‘Not much pain’ Authorities have insisted Kartika will not feel much physical pain because the rattan cane will be smaller and lighter than the one for men, and its purpose was to “educate” rather than punish. Kartika’s penalty has led to criticism by some politicians and women’s rights activists. The law provides for a threeyear prison term and caning for Muslims caught drinking, but most offenders are fined. Kartika said officials indicated she might have to stay inside the prison for several days starting Monday ahead of the caning, but she will be separated from the regular inmates. “I was afraid of the environment in the prison. Now they say they will make me comfortable, so I’m satisfied.”

he Sunway Lagoon’s artificial surf was silent last weekend after the popular swimming spot on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur was drained to make way for the taping of the first “MTV World Stage”. Five foreign bands entertained 3,000 fans of the music channel after Malaysia’s own Estranged opened the show. Emo-rock outfit Boys Like Girls, from Massachusetts in the US, revved up the enthusiasm with their recent hit “Love Drunk”, and then Raygun, a new glam-rock band from Britain, said hello to Asia with danceable tunes including the hit “Just Because”. The concert’s only female act, 18-year-old UK pop sensation Pixie Lott, met the crowd’s
expectations with her charttoppers “Mama Do (Uh Oh, Uh Oh)” and “Boys and Girls”. That was followed by perhaps the evening’s most anticipated performance – American rock band Hoobastank – playing in Malaysia for the third time.
Pixie Lott, the only female act on the bill, was a crowd pleaser.
Rejects accepted But none of the acts of the night came close to topping the exceptionally energetic AllAmerican Rejects, whose lead singer, Tyson Ritter, wore a lime-green tank top and glitter all over his face and hair. “Move Along” and “It Ends Tonight” were among the songs they performed, ending with Ritter clinging to the stage’s metal frame 10 metres up. The finale, a set by psychedelic-rock quartet Kasabian from Britain, began at 10.30
with “Vlad the Impaler”. “I’m still alive!” declared singer Tom Meighan, who’s freshly recovered from the H1N1 flu. Kasabian offered mostly tracks from their recent CD “West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum”, among them “Fire”, “Underdog” and “Where Did

lternative rockers Kasabian – steadily maturing with their third studio album “West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum” – were in Malaysia headlining the first “MTV World Stage” last weekend, and we had an exclusive date. Setting the tone with their self-titled debut album in 1999 and the follow-up “Empire” in 2004, Kasabian are known for their electronic trance variations on the sound of Stone Roses and Primal Scream – as well as their arrogance and cutting comments. Fellow British band Keane was once slagged off as “students”. We sat down to talk and braced for some barbs, but none was forthcoming.
Any luck in getting Quentin Tarantino to direct your live DVD? Meighan: We’ll have one out this
year. Pizzorno: I’d be good if he agreed. Scorsese did the Stones, and it’d be cool to have someone like Tarantino doing the DVD for us.
Why him? Meighan: He’s just amazing. Pizzorno: In a parallel world he in-
spires people by films with clever interpretations. We do our music inspired by what comes before and make it the 21st-century version, the same way he makes his films. I can’t watch a lot of killing, but I could watch “Kill Bill” over and over because there’s interpretation to it.
What’s with the long album name?
How do you like the music scene now?
Singer Tom Meighan: It’s more interesting than a one-word title.
Meighan: There’s no rock star, no David Bowie out there today. “Rock star” is like a myth now.
It refers to an asylum. Are you guys crazy? Guitarist Sergio Pizzorno: Every
day! Meighan: Every musician is on the borderline of lunacy, be it Picasso or John Lennon. If they weren’t doing what they did, they’d be in a nuthouse.
Who’s your rock star then? Meighan: Mine’s Elvis. Sergio: Keith Richards.
How have you evolved as a band? Pizzorno: I’ve grown six inches taller and my feet got bigger!

King reportedly touched her medal to her lips when President Barack Obama draped it around her neck. Slain gay-rights activist Harvey Milk was posthumously honoured.
fter a public outcry, the US government is currently investigating the “pay for delay” practice, under which brand-drug makers pay generics manufacturers to put off the introduction of competing products. It’s a tactic that shows the lengths to which those in the “life-saving” business are prepared to go to keep the prices of medicine high, at the cost of suffering for millions. Such Machiavellian perversity by big pharmas won’t surprise those who have followed the story of how Dr Krisana Kraisintu resisted both pressure and lawsuits while working on her cheap generic versions of retroviral drugs for those
with HIV. For her fearless efforts in bringing those generics to thousands of people living with HIV in Thailand, as well as millions more in Africa, the “gypsy pharmacologist” was recognised with this year’s prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award. Apart from Dr Krisana’s individual struggle, the work of such groups as the Thai Network of People Living With HIV/Aids and many NGO allies have also con-

tributed to improving access to care and treatment of those with HIV. But much more remains to be done in the battle against discrimination and stigmatisation. Being HIV-positive is still considered by many to be the result of irresponsible behaviour, even though many have contracted the virus through no fault of their own. But that said, being sero-positive doesn’t make a person any less of a human being, regardless of how he or she became infected. So why should their rights to a sex life and family be frowned upon by society? Some people believe that HIV-positive people should not have sex, let alone children. These prejudices are found in both the straight and gay worlds, even though gays have been associated with HIV/Aids issues since the beginning of the epidemic and many gay men of the previous generation experienced firsthand the ravages of the disease in friends and partners. Repetition of the safe-sex message aside, many of today’s gay men are so detached from the issue that we rarely know what it feels like to be living with the virus and to be discriminated against because of it. But there again, I know plenty of gay men who won’t go to entertainment venues where HIV-positive people are employed, much less befriend positive people. This is ironical in a society where homosexuality and transgenderism are still considered “diseases” by many otherwise well-educated, people. Maybe it’s a sign of internalised homophobia. It’s only natural to have no respect for others when one has none for oneself. Share idea on qay issues at asiantrekker@yahoo.com

GENDER ROW Semenya shakes off uproar to win 800 metres gold AP, Berlin
S
outh African teenager Caster Semenya shook off a gender test controversy on Wednesday to easily win the 800-metre gold medal at the world championships. Semenya’s dominating performance was all the more remarkable because it came the same day the IAAF announced that the 18-year-old runner was undergoing a gender verification test amid concerns she does not meet the requirements to compete as a woman. The South African, who did not speak to reporters after the race, took the lead at the halfway mark and opened up a commanding lead on the field in the last 400 metres to win in a world leading 1 minute 55.45 seconds.
After crossing the line, Semenya dusted her shoulders off with her hands, as though wiping away the controversy that has surrounded her at her first major competition. Defending champion Janeth Jepkosgei was second, a massive 2.45 seconds behind. Jennifer Meadows of Britain took bronze in 1:57.93. About three weeks ago, the IAAF asked the South African athletics federation to conduct the gender test after Semenya burst onto the scene by posting a world leading time of 1:56.72 at the African junior championships in Bambous, Maruitius. The teenager’s stunning improvement in times, along with her muscular build and deep voice, sparked speculation about her gender. In ideal circumstances, any controversy surrounding an athlete is dealt with before a major competition. But Semenya’s
stunning rise from an unknown teenage runner to the favourite in the 800 happened almost overnight, and that meant the gender test – which takes several weeks – could not be completed in time. IAAF spokesman Nick Davies underlined the sensitivity of the matter, and stressed that “it’s a medical issue, not an issue of cheating”. He said the “extremely complex, difficult” test has been started but that the results were not expected for weeks. The verification test requires a physical medical evaluation, and includes reports from a gynaecologist, endocrinologist, psychologist, an internal medicine specialist and an expert on gender. South Africa team manager Phiwe Mlangeni-Tsholetsane would not confirm or deny that Semenya was having a gender test, but said “there was no cheating on our part.”
aradorn Srichaphan might be tied up with new things in life but the former world No 9 insisted he has no plans to retire from tennis. From motorbike racer to TV sports co-host and now owner of a newly-opened restaurant, “Super Ball” still longs for a comeback even though he doesn’t know when. Wrist injury has kept him on the sidelines since March 2007. Despite several operations here and abroad, he feels his wrist is still not strong enough to stand up to the rigours of the tennis circuit. “My wrist will not allow me to hit the way I’d want to. I’m not retiring but I don’t think I’ll get fully fit for competitions this year,’’ said Paradorn, who had earlier eyed a return in the Thailand Open scheduled for next month. “If I play in the Thailand Open, it will only be in the doubles. I’m not in a condition to compete in the singles.” Paradorn had been rumoured to be considering a switch to motorbike racing. The Thai ace also co-hosts a sport show on Channel 7 but his latest role is that of owner of So-Le Cafe, an Italian restaurant which opens today on Thonglor Soi 4. A Sukhumvit tennis academy run by Ball is also on the way. Paradorn, who will be 30 next year, believes he still has plenty of time to fight his way back into tennis. “I’d rather prepare myself to return next year. Age is just a number. I have a protected ranking (No 78), I can use it whenever I’m ready to play,” said the winner of five ATP titles.

Liverpool crush Stoke; Rafa impressed with Johnson show AFP, Liverpool, England
F
ernando Torres stole the show as Liverpool got their season up and running with a 4-0 victory over Stoke at Anfield on Wednesday. Having lost their opening game at Tottenham 2-1, Rafael Benitez’s side were under pressure to overcome a team they twice failed to beat last season. Spain international Torres gave his side the perfect start by notching his first goal of the campaign in the fourth minute before Glen Johnson marked his home debut by making it 2-0 on the stroke of half-time. Holland international Dirk Kuyt increased Liverpool’s lead in the 78th minute and David Ngog put the seal on an impressive display in stoppage time.
Liverpool could not score against Stoke in 180 minutes of action last season, but it took just four minutes to unlock the Potters defence this time. Benitez’s side did not lose a game when Steven Gerrard and Torres started together last season. The trouble was the pair did not appear in the same line up often enough due to injury. The arrival of Sotirios Kyrgiakos from AEK Athens will ease a defensive crisis which robbed Benitez of Daniel Agger (back) and Martin Skrtel (jaw) because of injury. Benitez gave 18-year-old Daniel Ayala his senior debut alongside Jamie Carragher at the heart of the defence against Stoke. The 6ft 3in Spanish teenager, a former Seville youth player, didn’t let his side down, producing a mature performance which drew praise from his manager. “Daniel was a bit nervous to start with but in the end he had

Lyon and Atletico win big AFP, Paris
rench side Lyon stormed closer to a 10th successive Champions League group stage appearance on Wednesday while attack-minded Atletico Madrid also seized control of their play-off tie in hot and hostile Greece. Lyon, who were forced into the qualifying competition after losing their seven-year grip on the French title last season, crushed Anderlecht 5-1. The French were 4-0 ahead at the break with Miralem Pjanic, Lisandro Lopez, with a penalty, Michel Bastos and Bafetimbi Gomis all on target. Anderlecht, beaten in Champions League qualifying for the last two seasons, pulled one back through Matias Suarez in the 58th minute, but Claude Puel’s Lyon side restored their four-goal advantage inside five minutes with Gomis grabbing his second of the night. “We had a lot of technical quality and all the players raised their level,” said Puel. “Qualification for the group stage is not guaranteed. We have to be strong.” Atletico Madrid claimed a 3-2 win against Panathinaikos in a tough assignment in Athens in front of 60,000 fans in the city’s Olympic Stadium. The visitors took a 1-0 lead in the 36th minute when Diego Forlan set up Maxi Rodriguez who took the ball around Panathinaikos goalkeeper Mario Galinovic to score. Panathinaikos levelled in the 47th

However, Forlan restored the Spaniards’ lead in the 63rd minute when he followed-up Rodriguez’s blistering drive which had come back off the post. with quality going forward. That’s why I signed him,” he said. “He created a lot of chances and was a threat in attack. “I was also pleased with Lucas Leiva, he has taken a lot
of unfair criticism from the pundits which is not fair. He is a fine professional and a very good player, our best in preseason.” The only negative was an injury to Torres. He required a number of stitches in a head wound but that is unlikely to keep him out of the next game against Villa. Benitez added: “Last season against Stoke here, we just could not score an early goal to force them to come out. “This time we got one very quickly and it gave us the space to attack. The second just before the break was very important, because it gave us the cushion we needed.” Stoke boss Tony Pulis admitted his team had been outclassed: “I hold my hands up, we were beaten by a better team and better players. They do not only have Torres and Gerrard, who are world class. They have great players right through their team.”

DEVILS BURNED Fergie stays cool despite misfiring Utd’s shock defeat AFP, Burnley, England
lex Ferguson insists he is not concerned about Manchester United’s goal-scoring problems despite managing just one goal in their first two Premier League matches. The champions beat Birmingham 1-0 on Sunday but slipped to an embarrassing 1-0 defeat at Burnley in their second match of the season on Wednesday. Ferguson is still getting to grips with life without Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez as United have failed to convince at the start of the campaign. The United manager felt his side still created plenty of chances against the Clarets and thinks they could run riot at Wigan on Saturday if they come up with a similar number of opportunities. Ferguson, who saw Michael Carrick’s penalty saved at Turf Moor, insists his team will quickly bounce back from losing their second match of the season. He said: “I’m sure we’ll get a response on Saturday. We’re all disappointed it was a bad result. “It was a terrific pitch so that’s no excuse. We just should have done better with it. “We usually take our time to get going. Sometimes it’s October before we get into our best form. But we shouldn’t be losing these games. “You have to give credit to Burnley. It’s a great night for them. Their fans were fantastic and the pitch was magnificent.

Manchester United’s Anderson evades Robbie Blake, right, during the 1-0 win for Burnley. Everyone was here for a great night of football. “It’s not a concern at this stage when you see the chances we’ve had. Two or three players had chances. Michael Owen missed one first half, Ryan Giggs in the second. “Michael Carrick had the best chance, the ball was squared to him and he lost the opportunity. Hopefully we get as many chances on a Saturday.” Burnley manager Owen Coyle hopes the victory, which followed Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Stoke, will give his side, who are favourites for an immediate return to the Championship, the belief they belong in the top flight. Carrick. The Clarets manager believes his side can continue to pick up points despite their next three matches being against Everton, Chelsea and Liverpool. And he insists that getting off the mark in such style will be just what his team need if they are to avoid relegation. He said: “I’ve told them to have the belief and confidence and now we’ve got a massive game against Everton on Sunday. After we lost on Saturday people felt we would still be bottom of the league with no points after the United game so it was nice to prove them wrong, but we have to continue to do it over the course of the season.”
Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola said he was happy with his young team’s performance despite losing 1-0 to Manchester City, and appealed for patience from fans over new star signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Bulgarian winger Martin Petrov scored in the 28th minute against the run of play to beat the Spanish and European champions and take the annual preseason Joan Gamper Trophy for the big-spending English Premiership side on Wednesday. Guardiola brought in a lot of young reserve team players and left many of his big stars on the bench. “I am very happy with their performance, young players facing a quality team like Manchester City. We are fortunate to have a good pool,” he said. “I made many changes, and the youngsters responded very well.” The most anticipated moment came in the second half, when Ibrahimovic and Argentine Lionel Messi, two of the top-rated strikers in the world, were brought on. The Swede almost scored in the 74th minute, but his shot lacked force. It was his first match for the club since his transfer from Inter Milan this summer and since undergoing surgery on a broken hand last month. Guardiola appealed to fans to give him some time to adapt. “He has come for four or five years, not for one day,” he said, adding that combining with his team-mates “takes a bit of learning.”

Tottenham’s Jermain Defoe after scoring in the 5-1 win at Hull.
ottenham manager Harry Redknapp believes Jermain Defoe is in the form of his life after the England striker’s hat-trick destroyed Hull. Defoe’s treble and goals from Wilson Palacios and Robbie Keane inspired Redknapp’s team to 5-1 win at the KC Stadium on Wednesday. Stephen Hunt briefly offered Hull a lifeline when he made it 2-1 but Spurs’ victory was nev-
er in doubt as the north London team went top of the Premier League. After several seasons where Defoe promised more than he delivered the former West Ham star finally looks the finished article. He scored twice for England in last week’s friendly against Holland and Redknapp said: “It was a terrific exhibition of attacking football. The movement, passing, pace – I played with four forwards and really
took it to them. We looked dangerous every time we had the ball. Defoe looked almost unplayable, his form is absolutely electric. He looks stronger than I have ever seen him and I have known him since he was 14. “He has done a lot of work in the gym in the summer and he looks even more explosive. If he continues to play like that he has got no problems.” After beating one of the title
favourites in Liverpool on Sunday, Spurs have made an impressive start to the campaign. It is only the second time they have had a 100 per cent record after two games in 14 years. Redknapp, however, was not getting carried away with a London derby against West Ham to come this weekend. “It’s nice to have a good start but it’s only two games. We’ve got to keep going.”

LESCOTTCAN GO – FOR A PRICE Everton boss David Moyes admits he’s ready to sell Joleon Lescott if Manchester City meet his 30 million-pound asking price.
Liverpool managing director Christian Purslow yesterday dismissed reports that manager Rafael Benitez is on the verge of quitting Anfield. Bookmakers in England suspended betting on his future prior to Wednesday’s 4-0 victory over Stoke as speculation suggested the Spaniard was set to leave. It was suggested that Benitez was ready to walk out after the Tom Hicks and George Gillett, the club’s American owners, failed to give him a large enough transfer kitty. Benitez has been told he has just £2 million to buy defensive cover, with Greek centre-back Sotirios Kyrgiakos set to sign from AEK Athens. But Purslow, who has joined the Reds to take over many of the duties of outgoing chief executive Rick Parry while a full-time replacement is found, has dismissed the conjecture. “It’s 1000 per cent rubbish. I had dinner with Rafa and the fact I had not heard the rumours should tell you everything about how true they are,” he said in The Sun. “I am 100 per cent committed to the club,” Benitez said. “I was told about the rumours before the game. Maybe it’s something that can happen here. But I am staying here for the fans, the staff and the players.” Meanwhile, Benitez’s assistant manager Sammy Lee has been charged by the Football Association with improper conduct after a clash with fourth official Stuart Attwell during the defeat to Tottenham on Sunday. Meanwhile, Liverpool plan to offer £10 million for Real Madrid and Holland playmaker Rafael van der Vaart.
