Sacramento is the ‘Farm-to-Fork’ Capital of not only America, but of the whole world. That’s right! So, what better place to shop at the farmers market, or dine at restaurants who serve fresh seasonal cuisine made with locally grown fruits and vegetables. You can also have fresh garden goods brought right to your doorstep.

As you know, California’s main industry is agricultural. The top income producing agriculture products in California are milk, grapes, and cotton. And Sacramento is in the heart of it! In fact, one of its nicknames is Sacratomato, because it’s the perfect climate to grow the most delicious tomatoes. If you’d like to plant a garden at home the easiest to start with is grapes, peppers, tomatoes, and zucchini. And if you have the time, there’s no limit to what will thrive in this climate. Beyond that orchards and farms are woven into the landscape of the tri-counties and much of California. So, you have many different opportunities to enjoy the fruits of this.

The most common fruit and nut trees grown in the Sacramento Valley are almond, apple, apricot, fig, grapefruit, kiwifruit, lemon, orange, olive, peach, pear, pecan, pistachio, plum, prune, and walnut. Those who love buying fresh local food can find seasonal and year-round Farmers Markets throughout the counties.

Capital of the World

Not only are we the ‘Farm-to-Fork’ Capital of World; Sacramento is also the Almond Capital of World. In fact, there’s a city in California known as the “Capital of the World” for; Almonds, Apricots, Artichokes, Avocados, Broccoli, Dates, Garlic, Grapes, Horseradish, Lemons, Navel Oranges, Pears, Raisins, and Strawberries.
