Live Music at Golden Ears Farm

Madelyn Read has released her new LP “Concrete Country”- a mix of Country, Folk, and Americana. Based in Vancouver BC, Madelyn’s heart is in the rural tales of old-timey music. Her nostalgic and haunting songs feel like a lonesome train ride through the prairies that brings you straight into a bustling downtown core. An ode to home that is full of love and frustration, “Concrete Country” is a striking, and thoughtprovoking, collection for the lover of modern folk.

She will be performing at Golden Ears Farm (5848 VLA Road) on Sunday, June 11th. She goes on at 5:30 (weather permitting, this will be outdoors). Bring your own picnic dinner, camping chairs, $15 @ the door | $30 for families |or by donation | All are welcome!

Historic Tour of Chase

Come join us for a 45-minute, 1 km walk learning about the history of Chase.

We are happy to offer this tour free of charge for everyone, we encourage donations to Chase Museum instead.

Obituary

Dennis Chester Zinger

Dennis was born on March 7, 1935 in Flin Flon, Manitoba, and entered the Presence of his Lord on May 29, 2023. His growing-up years were spent in Sheridan and Swan River, Manitoba. As a young man, he worked as a miner in various places including Lynn Lake Manitoba, Atikokan Ontario, Bralorne BC and Bishop, California. In 1963, he got into the rebar business in Kamloops, starting K-Rod Steel. Dennis remained active in construction management well into his 80’s. He spent the last 42 years of life in Pritchard, residing in a log house that he built from trees on his acreage. In 1980, he became a devout Christian and was a radically transformed man. When he was asked how he was doing, he’d often say, “Better than I deserve.” He recently celebrated his 60th year of sobriety.

Dennis was predeceased by his parents Earl and Ella (Drinnan), brothers Richard, Wayne and Gary, and grandson Kole (Schmidt). He is survived by his wife of almost 69 years, Verla (Holden), children Malcolm (Joanne), Valerie Schmidt (Larry), Rick (Loreli), Delaine Dopp (Mike) and his brother Jim, “Bud”. There are also 17 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson on the way.

A celebration of his life will be held at the Pritchard Community Hall on June 11, 2023 at 4 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Salvation Army or The Mustard Seed would be appreciated.

Letter to the Editor

Views and information expressed in Letters to the Editor are those of the letter writer only and do not reflect those of the Chase Sunflower’s Editor, Advertisers or other Contributers. Letters to the Editor can be sent to info@chasesunflower.ca. May be edited for length or clarity or omitted for any reason.

Letter to the Editor: Village of Chase website is https://chasebc.ca/council/ minutes-agendas/

Parts of my letter of May 12/2023, which was presented in the May 23/23 agenda.

Dear CEO (Mayor) and Councillors,

I am writing regarding the Financial Budget package that had ONE page replaced with new tax rates with a 2023 heading. Thank you to the person that was able to catch the WRONG insert.

I did notice it also, and I did talk to Deb (accountant) about it.

It is very strange that after all the readings passed except for the final reading that this ONE PAGE was inserted in the package.

These packages have been photocopied reading after reading and yet only ONE was inserted wrong at the FINAL reading of the

Financial Budget.

The presentation from the Young Learners group is good but they need to remember that in the last 3 years at least if not more, the community garden that already exists in Willson Park has been asking for people to rent the plots. There is an expense for the taxpayers to break ground and give water to this new community garden in Willson Park. Who is going to continue to pay for the water? This has not been budgeted for 2023.

Apple (fruit) trees can be planted on the school grounds.

The pump track did the same thing by asking for insurance from the Village. A pretty large amount up to $800.00 yearly for a type of grant-in-aid money. This was not in the budget either.
