The Dancer’s Pointe is a studio that focuses on many different types of dance. The lighting used in the spaces helps to create an environment that is suitable for dancing. It gives light for the task at hand without distraction or glare. Many of the decorative luminaires have smooth curving silhouettes that mimic that of a dancer, and they have a smooth, clean look about them which reflects that of a dancer. In the studios there are Corelite Class A Perf D/I Suspended direct/indirect fluorescent luminaries. They provide a general light that is hung one foot and six inches below the ceiling to provide clearance for acrobatics underneath. They are also hung at this height to prevent glare on the mirrors. The luminaries are four feet in length and area spaced accordingly to each studio. These lights are connected MicroSet Dual Tech Ceiling Sensor. This will allow the lights to be dimmed or brightened depending on the amount of daylight in the space. All of studios have large fifteen foot windows and daylight will also help in providing light to the space. Also in the some of the studios there are Iris P3MR 3” Downlight Pinholes. These are there to add extra light over the barre area will providing a decorative scallop to the wall. This luminary has 200 lumens and is a narrow aiming angle. The angle is seven degrees and mounted one foot six inches away from the wall to provide a scallop down the wall. The reception houses a unique lighting feature. I used the Shaper 461 series pendant luminaire to create this piece. Each pendant is installed separately at intervals of twelve inches to create three circles and one half circle. The pendant is installed at varied lengths. The longest length is twelve feet and the shortest is four feet six inches. The lengths change by three inches increments each pendant to create a cascading effect. The pendant itself is a very clean look with an aluminum cylinder. In the reception the Portfolio AIL Avid Large Pulse Start Metal Halide luminaire is used. This is the general lighting for the reception area. This luminaire gives and industrial feel to a soft space, I like the contrast of this luminaire with its surroundings. It is ceiling mounted in four spots in the main reception and in the entry way. This fixture gives off generous amounts of light to feel this already large space with its twenty foot ceilings. The reception lights are also connected to the daylight sensor because four of the six studios have a curtain wall on the interior to let in daylight from their large windows. The boutique uses a combination of general and decorative lighting. The shaper 461 pendants are used above the transaction counter to provide extra light for task done at the desk. The recessed 6” LED is used as the general lighting in the space, and the storage area beside the boutique. These lights will also be connected to the daylight sensor because this space also has large windows. The locker rooms are not used often throughout the day and are mainly used for changing clothing and storing personal belongings. In this space I used Halo Commercial LED 6” aperture lens down light. They are space evenly apart in the locker room to allow for certain task to be completed. The recessed LED is also used in the restrooms to provide general lighting. The dance studio has generous amounts of natural light that when paired with the artificial light creates a lighting scheme that really defines the spaces. Through the use of LED’s and daylight sensors the space allows for energy savings. The luminaries look nice together and create a calming environment suited for dance.
