Cultural Facts Egypt is formally known as the Arabic Republic of Egypt. In Egypt they practice Islam and speak Arabic. The climate is so hot that on average only an inch of rain falls in a given year.
Situated on the southern most tip of The Sanai Peninsula. Along the Red Sea, Sharm El Sheikh is a city located in the South Sinai Government. They are known for their affluent residents, culture, and beautiful beaches. Inspired by the egyptian god of the waters of chaos, the resaurant Nu, is a major attraction in down town Sharm El Sheik. The god Nu exsisted on earth before land and according to legends, the first land rose out of Nu. He presented his people with a lavish experience and provided them with life and happiness. As the god of water, Nu, flooded the land so his people could prosper from the fertile soil. The symbol of the god of water is similar to a chevron symbol, to represent the ripples of the water. The symbol is used as a means to seperate spaces and create unique patterns throughout. Water is symbolized throughout the use of colors, textures, and movements. When you walk inside you are greeted by a circular hostess station that leads you around the bar and then to a large dining area. The walking paths of the restaurant resemble that of a meandering river. Nu provides indoor or outdoor dining representing an oasis in the hot climate of Sharm El Sheikh.
Due to Islamic law there is virtually no alcohol consumption.
Cuisine
At the dinner table no one is to use their left hand to eat, it must remain by their side at all times. The color blue is a rare and valuable color, and represents the sky and water.

The front dining area allows patrons to have a more intimate dining experience. This area is separated by a brick partition wall topped with 3-Form glass that allows natural light to permeate the space. The 3-Form translucent glass reflects the wave like movement of water that is also reflected on the accent wall parallel to it. The chevron like ceiling detail helps to protect the space from the exterior heat, while giving it visual interest. The chevron like shape is the hieroglyphic resemblance of water. Tom Dickson pendant lights provide a warm glow in the sensual banquet seating areas. The mercury-like material on the shade was drawn from the materials used to make traditional Egyptian jewelry.

The bar and lounge area reflects the water that Nu provided every year so that the Egyptians could live and thrive. The accent wall adjacent to the bar represents the flow of water as it curves along the way, leading the guest through the restaurant. The countertop of the oyster bar is a composite of acrylic material and recycled aluminum that come together to create a material that looks like bubbles reflecting in the light of the sun. This helps to give the angular bar a fluid like texture. The ceiling detail above the bar is made to look like the inside of an oyster. It is then clad in blue mother of pearl to symbolize the pearl found in the oysters. This gives patrons something to look for when they make their way towards the bar. From the bar, guests have a view of the water wall along the wall of the back dining room. This space provides large tables with lush lounge seats, so that patrons can relax and socialize with their peers. This space is also accessible to the bartender so that guest not wishing to sit at the bar can still enjoy the oyster special.

The grand entrance in Nu opens up into a large atrium with dropped ceilings. They are met with an array of different colors, textures, and view. From the entrance you have site lines to the bar and through the bar to the back dining room, where a water wall is situated at the back of the room. Upon entering the space, patrons will notice the granite that has been cut into the Hieroglyphic c symbol for water. This piece of granite leads the guest through the space to other dining areas. The bar is directly behind the entrance, so that patrons wishing to dine alone or just at the bar, may have the opportunity to seat themselves without having to wait for a hostess to seat them. Two brick walls are also present that help to divide the entrance from the front dining rooms. They are topped with a 3-Form resin panel that mimics the flow of water. When entering the space, guest should feel as if they have entered an oasis. The color scheme lends to a calming sensation that invites guest to stay a while and enjoy the amazing cuisine.

The patio offers a nice shaded spot outside to enjoy a fine dining experience. The climate in Egypt is substantially hot, and during some months it is almost unbearable to go outside. For this matter, Nu has a fully covered patio with walls that have arches incorporated in them so that some light can come in. On the patio guest have a variety of seating options. You can sit to eat or just lounge and have some tea or coffee with a colleague. The lounge furniture features a high back to keep the sun at bay when patrons sit near the openings of the patio. The patio has white marble flooring that leads guest into the restaurant.
