The Most Unique Airbnb Rentals CHELSEA HERRING

When renting a home, whether it be via Airbnb or some other rental management company, you’re typically running into standard rentals or very lavish, high-class rentals. While this is the standard, sometimes you’ll come across more bizarre rentals that are out of this world, and unlike any home, you’ve ever seen before. Airbnb actually launched a fund recently, known as The Unique Airbnb Fund, which encourages people to create new and unique spaces for their guests to rent and stay in. Here are a few of the most unique Airbnb’s you can find around the world.

Potato Hotel - Idaho Idaho supplies almost one-third of The United States’ potatoes. This caused the state’s Potato Commission to create something in order to celebrate their 75th anniversary. They decided that the best course of action would be to create a giant, hollow, fake potato. Measuring at 28-by-12 feet, the potato was supposed to have a year-long tour around the country but instead ended up traveling for 7 years. After the tour ended, the six-ton potato returned to Idaho where it was transformed into a tiny potato hotel.

Fairy Tale Boot Australia The fairy tale boot, often simply referred to as “The Boot” is located on the Tasman Coast of Australia and is literally something straight out of a fairy tale. Invoking the nursery rhyme “There Was an Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe”, The Boot is backed by mountain scenery that’s ripe with exploration and features open fireplaces both inside and outside. This rental is great for anyone who wants to stay in something a little more magical.

Off-Grid Earthship New Mexico If you have an interest in staying at eco-friendly rentals, you might want to consider an Earthship. If you’re unfamiliar with these types of homes, they’re off-grind and are typically made of recycled materials or mud that can generate their own electricity and catch their own rainwater. The Greater World Community, located outside of Taos, New Mexico, is the world’s largest off-the-grid subdivision of these Earthships, and this community is the only one in the world that is open to tours and rentals.

Lucy The Elephant New Jersey Lucy the Elephant, a National Historic Landmark, has been standing for almost 140 years and is one of the oldest roadside attractions in The United States. Available for both tours and rentals, Lucy watched over the Jersey shore, only a few miles outside of Atlantic City. You’ll have to walk up 25 steps in order to stay inside Lucy, but the inside of this elephant you’ll be transported back to the 1800s, giving you a Victorian Era feeling. Lucy hosted her first stay in 1902 and has even hosted President of the United States Woodrow Wilson.
