>> Introduction of The Secondlife Museum The Secondlife Museum of Creative Reuse encourages people to save earth’s resources by creatively repurposing their discarded stuff. Compared to recycling, repurposing is more eco-friendly as no industrial production is needed and everyone can enjoy themselves in the process. People take their discarded things to our orange bins in their community. They come to our workshop and make products under the guidance. Good works would be showcased in the gallery so visitors would get inspired or even buy those repurposed products in our museum gift shop. We choose orange as our identity color because it is the color of a rising sun, representing a new life of the repurposed objects.

WHY A SECONDLIFE MUSEUM?

>> Everyday We Are Creating Trash In 2011, the average amount of waste generated by each person in America per day was 4.5 pounds. 60% of it could be recycled, but only 13% was actually recycled. 4 pounds, including yard waste, was sent to composting.

WHAT’S THE PROBLEM

>> Compare Recycling to Reusing Recycling differs from reuse in that it breaks down the item into raw materials which are then used to make new items, as opposed to reusing the intact item. As this extra processing requires energy, as a rule of thumb reuse is environmentally preferable to recycling (“reduce, reuse, recycle”), though recycling does have a significant part to play as it can often make use of items which are broken, worn out or otherwise unsuitable for reuse. —Graham Searjeant “Recession fails to subdue Sainsbury”.

FROM RECYCLE TO REUSE

>> Compare Recycling to Reusing People have been talking about “eco-friendly” products for more than 50 years. However, as the earth’s resources are becoming increasingly limited, it is the responsibility of every one of us to live more sustainably. Most people know this is important, but they are still not as engaged as they could be. Repurposing disposed stuff is a very eco-friendly way to get involved and enjoy the process at the same time.

WHY A SECONDLIFE MUSEUM?

AN ORANGE LIFESTYLE

The Secondlife Museum of Creative Reuse is introducing a new system for saving the earth’s resources. People take their disposed objects to the bins or dumpsters in their community. We dispatch vans to those spots, pick up the objects and send them to the warehouse. Visitors come to our museum gallery to get inspired, pick up materials from the warehouse and make their own products in the workshop. Works from professional designers can be brought from the museum’s gift shop.

LOGO DESIGN

>> Why Did We Choose Orange? Orange combines the energy of red and the happiness of yellow. It is associated with joy and sunshine. Orange also represents fascination, enthusiasm, stimulation and creativity. On the other hand, orange has very high visibility, and we want to catch people’s attention to repurposing and highlight the most important goals of the museum. Moreover, the rising sun is the inspiration for our logo design. Just as the sun rises everyday to nurture life, we bring a second life to those discarded objects.
