Vancouver Island’s theatre getaway There’s nothing like it 2
elcome to the Chemainus Theatre Festival’s 20th Anniversary Season! For 20 years we have been committed to bringing you intimate, powerful and polished theatre here on Vancouver Island. Together we affirm life, enrich the region, advance the arts, and build community.
2012 is a season of celebrating and dreaming. The new Canadian comic mystery, Harvest, begins the journey with an acting tour de force, followed by ‘Footloose meets 12th Night meets Elvis’ in All Shook Up! We roll into spring with Noises Off and dream together this summer with Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor® Dreamcoat. We bring back an audience favourite, former Artistic Director Lucia Frangione’s down-home musical, Chickens, and finish the year celebrating unconditional love in a tuneful adaptation of O. Henry’s The Gifts of the Magi. Add a bonus production of Rod Beattie’s third show, Wingfield’s Folly, and Animal Tales from our original Kidzplay Series, and 2012 will be a theatrical bonanza. Throughout Chemainus Theatre Festival’s 20 years, we’ve welcomed hundreds of professional actors and designers to our stage, created 29 new plays and adaptations, and produced 50 Canadian works. This season we continue to grow as we produce our 100th show and welcome our 1,000,000th patron to the theatre! Today, Chemainus Theatre Festival is vibrant, strong and dreaming of a bright future – welcome along for the ride!
