Pieces oF laNd This project is designed for under 7 years old children. The main purpose is to allow kids creating his/hers own world with tangible objects instead of playing in the virtual world. The design in this project focuses on “how to create differents kinds of stories’s background by simple stepts.” In addition, this is on-going project. I have done the testing model and gave it to the childs. According to the observation, now knowing some detail has to change. - and The next stepts to this project is to re-design the Pieces of Land making the another model for the final.

DVD - pieces of land.mov

14

15

Design Process From the sketches, I start with designing for children to create something whic are supposed to be easy and interesting. At the begining, I drew some straw lego, the DIY flavored Popsicle, the story frame for making background.

I want to design the modular system, one piece with different way can comebine

I choose this sketches to develop my idea.

and simplicity, I think the cloth will be a good material for children to play.

“How to make kids’ own stories? “ I came up with a thought “Why not making so many kinds of landscape?“

16

Landscape testing models with and create lots of landscape/stories background. Considering the safety

When design the toy about making landscape, I made many different models instead of sketching, because I can see more detail from making madel. Therefore, I try to fold different shape and change color to see the result.

17

Laser cut for button

Design Process This is the final shape for the project. Different color can stand for different landscape, such as the brown: sand or dirt, the green: grass, the white: snow, etc. All pieces can be flatten storage. In order to let the different pieces to stick together,

3D printing for character

I have to add the velcro on the lake while I think it is very strange for something in the lake with no any meanings. So, I change it into the velcro animals! When taking out the mountain pieces, children will see the animals in the lake.

18

19

“Pieces of Land is designed for children above 4 years old. Kids can button, stack, and change colors to build imaginary story sceneries by themselves. Each item can be made through folding and buttoning the fabrics.

20

21

A piece of land is the 30x30cm carpets. With different colors, you can make different land while playing, such as white is snow, brown is dessert, green is grass and so on.

22

23

Easy folding and buttoning, it is a piece of cake to create on your own. The same fabric can be installed with animals’ heads to create different characters. The animal velcores can easily stick different pieces together and also be unexpected trigers for children to play.

24

25

Bonus play for Pieces of Land! Simplily combine with animals’ head, create your own characters in the story! Let’s make your own story by your hands!

26

27

28

29

Each item can be made through folding and buttoning the fabrics. The 30x30cm carpets with different colors and patterns can be combined together and created into different sceneries such as forest, desert, icebergs and so on.

30

31

Testing in real playing! Taking my models to the 5 year-old children to play and doing the observation. From the observation, I found that kid can learns how to button up from making the scence, and she also loves to match the similar shape putting them in order. Moreover, she would tries to find new ways to play, for example, playing hide and seek with the animals and peek into the mountain holes. What’s more, the fishes, turtles, ducks velcore in the lake are very attracted to kid.

Suggestion / The next stepts 1.change the velcore direction for easily storage. 2.create more characters, decoration with same way.

Design Process

BathPoUch This is the 1 year graduation project. I work for problem finding, marketing analyse, styling, coloration, logo, flim making. We want to redesign and rethink the process of bathing baby in order to make parents and babies feel more comfortable and ease. Fitting to every growing period of babies, BathPouch can be adjusted in two different sizes: 0-6 months and 6 months-3 years old. Inspired in a wombed shape emulating

the sensation(warm, soft and safe) that makes babies feel like back to the familiar atmosphere. Moreover, Bathpouch is designed considering human factors so that it will not be harmful to parents’ knees, backs, arms, etc. Furthermore, when folded, “BathPouch” can easily fit into a flat package, which is convenient for parents to take home or store without occupying too much space.

Research for Baby Bathing Having a newborn baby is one of the happiest things for every family. However, some parents are novices at taking care of them. To buy babies necessities, they have to consider some problems such as the space, money, growth rate, safety and so on. It often makes them hesitant and confused. After observing the process of taking bath for newborn babies, we discovered that most of bathrooms in Taiwan are small. In tradition, a mother will sit on a low stool and wash the baby in a huge red basin laid on the ground. It is not ergonomic. Both the baby and parents feel uncomfortable. As a result, we want to design a new product suitable for modern Taiwanese families. It will be durable, ergonomic, safe, and well-stored. Our goal is to reduce parents’ burdens and they can interact with their babies at ease when taking a bath for them.

IKEA Pi deSign This is the one of the project in brand identity course running for a samester. I am work for collecting IKEA’s historical timeline, marketing strategy, analysing product identity & model making, whole presentation CIS and advertisement. We choose IKEA to understand their culture, history, CIS, PI, etc. With analysing of shape, color, material, culture, interface, we would figure out the IKEA’s product identity and design for them for future 2015. In this project, we found thatIKEA’s interesting strategy of PS collection and some special electronic funitures, products coming out in these years. Hence, we think it is a very good oportunity for IKEA to develop a new electrnic series with tangible ways.

Old is New exploring Taiwan’s culture To carry out the concept of “Old Is New”, I tried to discover the inspiration from Taiwan’s traditional market. Hope to transfer the old intelligence and image into a new design. The bamboo basket impressed me the most. The holes on it are used to drain the water from vegetables. In the past, farmers would carry bamboo baskets on their back, walked through the mountains, and sold the vegetables they grew in the markets. People would share their goods and chat. That was the way how Taiwanese people got along with each other and the spirit of “sharing” is what I want to convey in my design

They sweat and walk across the mountains to share fresh greens to others. They work with a smile of satisfaction because they grow these vegetables with all their hearts.

Nowadays, with the rapid development of technology, the more convenient communication we have in digital world but the less time we contact with others in the real world. Most people are not willing to chat with strangers, especially with elderlies. In the nursing house, a day for elderlies is very regular. They sit in front of the window or their bedroom without anything to do. This situation could led them to negative feeling. They need somone to talk to and be care of.

oola AmiGo We participated in the City Yeast reconstruction project 999 of Aqua Design in 2010. The purpose is to bring design into Gongguan district, connect with local stores, and make the place become different. To proceed this project, we investigated more than 10 stores. Finally, we chose an American-Mexican restaurant “Oola” to reconstruct.

-

Oola is an American-Mexican restaurant located in an alley in Gongguan. The name means “hello” in Mexico. The American owner manages the restaurant as a place for friends getting to-

“Oola Amigo” means “Hello, friends!” in Mexico. The huge cactus is the mascot of Oola. He welcomes friends to the restaurant. After eating, people can leave a message on him, sharing their happiness.

Dynamic Balance It is progressing repeatedly. Through the inspiration and brainstorming, the target is gradually reached. In the circle, our target is getting closer. There is no specific answer; between destruction and construction, we try to find a balance.

Energy Domains Controlling the fan speed by programing, the balls move in the duct periodically. With the basic form of points, lines, and planes, it created a macroscopic “energy breathing” sub-space. Interaction exists in the Unicom point between two spaces. Whenever the energy flowing channels being blocked, the particles stop floating immediately, and the passage will be restored in the opposite. With the indirect light below the bench, the viewers could wander freely in the suspension unrealistic environment, Listening, perceiving the restless energy particles’ undulating sounds and patterns.
