2009–2012
Revolving around our minds, bravely embrace the differences that exist in our world.
C We should learn to embrace the beauty of each culture, in order to make a harmonious world.
Animals and mother earth are our friends; people have duties to protect them.
In order to persent the Mid-Autumn Festival, I used three elements to decorate the paper– cut. They were: the moon rabbit, the goddess of the moon and Chinese characters of the Mid– Autumn.
This piece is about the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival which most popular activity is the dragon boat race. Contestants need to sit on the dragon–shaped boat and then compete. I used the symbol of the dragon boat and the shadow of a famous patriotic poet to decorate the paper–cut.
BRAND&IDENTITY Creating the new identity(UI/logo/tableware) for the dumpling restaurant near my office.
Shandong Dumpling Restaurant is quite popular in my hometown. Their most famous dishes are the dumplings with different kinds of flavors that you can choose. In order to emphasize the importance of this product for the restaurant image, I combined some dumplings with a man's face into the logo. Shandong is a province of China, so I considered the color of their flag, deciding to use a red background as the main visual representation.
For the tableware and the menu, in order to balance the space, I decided to decorate it with some Chinese materials. Due to the bright red color, I used green grass to balance the visual sensation. Finally, I used green bamboo to decorate the equipments.
The mobile application was designed to allow the customers to easily order food at the restaurant. By following each step, the customers can choose different kinds of flavors and quantities.
A Chinese storybook for foreigners who want to learn the Chinese characters in a funny way.
The idea was from the Chinese zodiac story, which is quite popular in Chinese culture.
The project is available for foreign adults who are interested in Chinese characters. I used the famous Chinese story of the zodiacs ( 十二生肖傳奇), to describe the animal characteristics.
Story, Era and Characters of the Chinese Zodiac The goal of the book is to be simple and readable, but also filled with an oriental atmosphere. I picked the calligraphy of the Han Dynasty to explain my main ideas. The shape of the calligraphy is created depending on the animals' original shapes, combined with the ancient story for '' The Twelve Animals '' which was written below the characters. Both illustrations and descriptions can easily strengthen people's impressions. Each animal belongs to a Chinese Era and the three elements of the Chinese Zodiac, ''Story, Chinese Era and Chinese Character'' were combined together.
I used the Chinese era symbol to shape the circle, which represents the surface of a clock, and the yellow area the time, which each Chinese zodiac is related to.
Some Chinese characters are created by an object's appearance. In order to emphasize this point, I choose some related elements to decorate and represent each Chinese zodiac sign.
The paragraphs below the Chinese characters are from the famous Chinese Zodiac story, I also included the Roman alphabet writting to help the foreigners to pronounce the word easily.
This is a famous story that spread throughout China for thousands of years. One day, the jade emperor held a race and he wanted to elect the twelve animals to symbolize each year. This was a great honor for the winners, so the animals were eager to win. They used different kinds of strategies during the race. Eventually, the rat won the first position, then the ox, tiger, rabbit, and the dragon were all the top five. However, the pig was the last one, almost too late for the event. Afterwards, people used these twelve animals to represent each year (twelve years a turn), and the person who were born in the year might have the same personality of those animals.
The work was designed for my friend who was going to launch a forum for gender equality.
The poster and the project were designed for a gender equality forum, which was held by a friend of mine. She asked me to mix the statistics with the topic. In order to combine a lot of information with the poster and also represent it in an aesthetic way, I used a little girl's face as a main visual expression and then added some related datas to describe the idea. Also, I tried to make the two elements balance the screen.
The projects are inspired from a news about several young girls in Africa who were sent to a Forced Sex Camp before to serve their future husbands.
The project came up with several news that I saw in the official national taiwanese newspapers.
In May 2015, I saw a report that showed the pictures of young African girls who were forced to go to sex camps before marriages in Zambia And Mozambique. The eight–year–old girl was forced to go there in order to be trained on how to please their future husband.
There is a custom in this country where they hold the ''group wedding ''every April. In the wedding, young girls who are around five or six years old need to marry men who are much older than them. After those girls are married, they have to live with their spouses, and part of them might suffer long– term sexual abuse or immoral treatments.
In some areas of Eastern Europe
The girls from Roma (part of Romania) which are around fifteen years old, will be sent to a ''bride market'',and people can pay approximately 100 euros to buy them as a wife. This is a way for their family to earn some money. The most important fact is that some of them might get unfair treatments after their marriage.
The title exceeds the frame borders and it symbolizes how important this phenomenon is.
Each national flower besides the girls signify their feminine pretty spirit and their strong faith.
I used hand painting to describe my initial impressions of girls; their lives should be respected.
Nowadays, more and more terrifying contagious diseases show up in the world. For instance, SARS, MERS, or Ebola. Those diseases can be a big social issue for all human beings.
As we know, contagious diseases are more and more serious. Due to high technology, people can easily travel without the limitation of time and space. However, some diseases can also be carried by human beings and spread to other countries. In my opinion, it is our duty to educate our younger generation on this issue.Firstly, I wanted to design a robot that can explain those complicated viruses in an interesting way to children and teach them how to protect themselves from these enemies. Secondly, I combined the idea with a website and an APP, both of which can be available with different types of equipments. The software has three modes, children can fight virus or learn some knowledges from the website. The main idea of the project is to use a funny game to make the children realize the importance of preventing dangerous viruses spread.
WEB PAGES LAY OUTS OF THE PRODUCTS
I worked at a website company as an art editor for a couple of years. The work was the lay outs that I did at the company. We cooperated with some companies from various industries, such as famous restaurants, amusement parks or technology companies. During that time, I wrote the copies and designed the web pages for the products. I was also responsible for the lay outs of comercial activities.
TYPESETTING
MAGAZINE EDITORIAL MONTHLY AECHITECTURE MAGAZINE
This work was designed for an architecture magazine, for which we hold an interview with a famous Taiwanese cartoonist. He is well-known for drawing historical Taiwanese buildings, and in order to emphasizing this point, We combined in the magazine cover several of his art works and tried to design a vintage atmosphere.
PRACTICE Work practice
Girls, time to move on! The work is for typesetting practice. Recently, America passed the law for homosexuals to legally get married, and it inspired me to make a protest poster for women's rights. In the work, a girl looking out from the window symbolized that she feels eager for freedom.
The midnight amusement park The midnight amusement park is only available deep in the children's minds. There could be funny clowns, mysterious unicorns and magic rainbows that can make children remain full of imagination.
Practice II A practice poster for Ensouler Design Festival which is going to be held in Taiwan.
The Abandoned Heaven It can always be a dream for the man to live in a DIY house, and he can drive it anywhere. Welcome to the abandoned heaven, belonging to those who dare to dream.
FOLDER DESIGN Special attachment work which I designed for our high school magazine. The projects were made for our school magazine. I tried to combine the child's fairy tale with the school map; in order to convey the meaning of each building on campus, I turned them into a bunch of funny characters. In this unique map, the dormitory turned into the big snail, it carries the room for each student. In addition, the security room is a big eyeball, keeping its eye on everyone. All in all, the inspiration came from the sketch which i did in my spare time. The folder was quite popular when all my peers saw it. For the background, I choose one of my favorite buildings, two mysterious creatures are using their tongues to link each other.
