WELCOME... ...to our new season at Chequer Mead! I hope that you will enjoy the many shows and events in the coming months. A registered charity, Chequer Mead is the only purpose-built arts centre between London and the South Coast, fulfilling the needs of theatre goers and the arts in the south east. Conveniently located in East Grinstead town centre, the theatre boasts a delightful 320-seat auditorium which can double as a conference venue together with its art gallery and other multi – purpose spaces. Many shows sell out quickly so be sure to contact the Box Office as soon as possible to secure the best seats. Weekly Drop-in Life Drawing Classes Mon 20th Sept - Mon 6th Dec 11 to 1pm £10 per session Our aim is to offer artists of all levels an abilities the facility to drop in without prior arrangement for a two hour life drawing session. Drawing boards and easels are available and artists are welcome to bring their own equipment. Models may be clothed or unclothed - participants should be 18 and over. Chinese Brush Painting Workshop WITH THE EXPERIENCED TEACHER AND LECTURER, JANE DWIGHT

Friday 26th November 10 to 4 pm £45 per person Jane has written several books on Chinese brush painting and will be demonstrating and teaching some of the skills needed to ‘write a picture’. As well as practising basic techniques, participants will have the opportunity to try various materials and papers and will produce paintings of bamboo and chrysanthemum. Ink, brushes and watercolours are provided on loan and paper is provided. Materials available to purchase from tutor. Book early to avoid disappointment, as places are limited.

Facilities for Hire Whether it’s a musical or a school production, from a conference for 320 people to a breakfast meeting for 10 people we have the service and state of the art equipment to ensure your event is the best it can be. With significant reductions for local schools, charity, and community and not for profit groups we can also offer competitive commercial hourly and daily hire rates, seven days a week. East Grinstead is one hours train journey from London Victoria and opposite the venue is a public car park for over 300 cars. There are three disabled parking spaces on site. We also have an infrared induction hearing loop system in the Theatre. THE LIFEBOAT CHOIR TUESDAY 7TH DECEMBER AT 1.30PM The Forest Row Lifeboat Choir was formed in 1946 after the loss of the Rye Harbour Lifeboat, "Mary Stanford" and her 17 crew in 1928. The brother of a crew member lived in Forest Row, met the village postman and moved by the disaster, they formed the choir to raise funds for the RNLI. They continue to do so to this day. THE GREENSTEDE GALLERY The Greenstede Gallery is a popular exhibition space for both professional and amateur artists working in all media. Fully refurbished in 2009 with new lighting it is the perfect venue for showing art at its very best.

THE GARDEN GALLERY The Garden Gallery is a more informal space that provides a “shop window� for local artists. Located along a glass corridor overlooking a wonderful garden, it is the ideal space for showing works at their finest. Ballet Art is an exhibition of drawings and paintings by Tracey Clerkin exploring the beauty of ballet and dance in pencil and water colours. A selection of recent work will be on display along with some old favourites.

An exhibition of giclée prints reliving those few short weeks in summer when we can sit outside, sip coffee and watch the world go by. Mainly mellow, but jazzed up with the occasional espresso, the pictures are digitally manipulated photographs from trips to France and Venice.

TEXTILE STUDIO 2010 FRIDAY 29TH OCTOBER TO WEDNESDAY 10TH NOVEMBER

The Textile Studio has gained a well-deserved reputation. The current exhibition displays a wide range of skills including embroidery, felt making, silk painting, mixed media, three-dimensional work and dyeing. The group aim to be "experimental - exploring fabrics, threads and dyes in an innovative way".

REDIVIVUS FRIDAY 12TH NOVEMBER TO WEDNESDAY 17TH NOVEMBER

A group of three artists who joined forces in 2005 to exhibit textiles. They use both traditional and experimental approaches to work depicting their experience of the world around them. Moyra McNeil, Janice Lawrence and Gillian Mobsby will be joined by Mike Phipps, glass and Penny Davis, Jewellery.

Threads in Common - A group of textile and mixed media artists covering a diverse range of textile techniques. Their exhibition will include not only textile based art, but also three-dimensional pieces, machine embroidery, appliqué, paper collage and jewellery. All artwork will be for sale at a wide range of prices, plus some exciting Christmas items.

ARTAPART THURSDAY 25TH NOVEMBER TO WEDNESDAY 1ST DECEMBER

A rich collection of original paintings, prints and cards brought together by a local art group. ArtApart celebrate their first group exhibition presenting an exciting mix of genres in water colours and pastels. Painting, prints and cards will be for sale at affordable Christmas prices.

Four artists, working in textiles, photography and mixed media exploring different aspects of landscape and place. Debbie Lyddon explores the environment of the North Norfolk coast. Perception of place and its relationship with memory lie at the heart of Mary Morris’s use of oil and encaustic wax. Catherine Hursthouse uses recycled domestic textiles to explore the cultural significance of cloth. Tim Morris is a photographer whose film and digital work document our relationship with the landscape.

METHODS OF PAYMENT We accept most credit and debit cards – please note that we charge a £1.50 Booking Fee per transaction for card bookings and this includes postage. There is no Booking Fee for cash and cheque payments – please make cheques payable to “Chequer Mead Community Arts Centre” and include a SAE. Please inform the Box Office at time of booking if you wish to collect your tickets in person. Once purchased, regrettably tickets cannot be exchanged nor can money be refunded in any circumstances. In the event of a sell out we will attempt to resell your tickets, but we cannot guarantee a resale.

SOLT THEATRE VOUCHERS SOLT Theatre Vouchers are accepted and can also be purchased at our Box Office. Theatre tokens can now be used when making telephone bookings as well as in person.

DISABLED PATRONS Guide and assistance dogs are welcome throughout the Centre. There are four disabled parking bays available in the Centre car park and also a disabled bathroom available.

WHEELCHAIR PATRONS We ask that wheelchair patrons book in advance so that we can help you during your visit. Please discuss your needs with Box Office staff when making your booking, especially if you are using a large wheelchair. We are pleased to offer concessionary priced tickets to wheelchairs users where available and complimentary tickets to carers whose presence is essential. There is level access to the front and throughout the building. Regretfully there is no access to the first floor seats in the circle.
