For the semester Audio Visual Communication we have to write a context document. This document teaches us, how a sender can send a message through a live stream show. The success of a communicational product depends partly on the actors in the process of communication and their experience and perception. Before designing anything those involved in the product need to be brought into the picture together with their beliefs. For this assignment Sandra Yuen and I, Melody Abreu, have decided to work together. We were assigned earth and water as subjects. It is expected of us to find a client for each subject and to write a context document for each client.I have chosen the subject water; therefore, Sandra will write on the subject of earth. These will be discussed further in this document.

For the subject water I have chosen Vitens as the client. Vitens is a company consisted by more than 1,400 people, who’s passion for water connects them. Because 5.5 million customers blindly trusts the company, Vitens is constantly working on the extraction, purification and supplying of the drinking water’s quality. For Vitens is water a profession. A profession that requires creativity, innovation, perseverance and taking responsibility of the people, the society and the environment. And this is what Vitens practices every day for their costumers in the different states and for the more than tens of millions of people in countries where drinking safe water isn’t really a choice.

MARTHA KNIGHT

Target group Vitens is a water company that provides its customers with clean and healthy drinking water. Their target group is pretty much every household that makes use of the company’s services. The most important thing is that every household is daily provided with clean water. Following I will describe two household that form part of Vitens target group.

Martha is a 40 years old single mom of two living in Apeldoorn. Given to her economical status, Martha has to work three different jobs in order to provide for her family. Because she is constantly working, she doesn’t really have the time to look after her kids, and as a result of her low income, she isn’t able to afford a babysitter. Luckily enough her daughter Kim who just became 16, looks after herself and her little brother Tom, who’s 4 years old. Tom, Martha’s youngest son, has a strange stomach condition. Therefore they have to be really careful with what is being fed to Tom. Everything has to be fresh and extra clean. Martha knows that her son’s condition is critical, but she trusts her daughter to take good care of him, when she’s out working.

BORNA SUCHADA

Borna is a 24 years old professional table tennis player. He lives at the Papendal Hotel, and is constantly doing sports. Given to the fact that he’s a professional player, he has to practice 6 days in the week, twice a day. When his free day finally arrives, he’s almost always too tired to do anything other than sleep. Because Borna is constantly moving and doing sports it is very important for him to stay hydrated. He also has to take good care of himself and his health, because even a little flu can be crucial for his career.

Melody Abreu For the subject water I have chosen Vitens as the client. It is expected of me as a AVI-student to create a video/motion graphic for Vitens, where for example the water company advises it’s clients to cook the before consuming it. I am a student at the HAN University of Applied Sciences myself. I am third year student of the Bachelor course, Communication and Multimedia Design. I have already had two semesters, CRIA and CICA, and my internship at Curacao. I have learned a lot so far, not only design wise but also how to work in different environments and together with different people. AVI is my last semester, and during this semester I have to create a motion graphic. Though I am really experienced when it comes to design, I have never worked with video before. Therefore, I think, I will face some difficulties when creating the motion graphic for Vitens. However, I am really looking forward to this, because I love learning new things, and this will only expend my field of expertise.

HAN HAN University of Applied Sciences exists since 1996, and it’s the producer in this assignment. The university invests in modern and qualitatively education. It offers almost every type of professional courses related to different domains such as; education, social studies, commerce, etc.. The Students of the university can choose from a total of 65 Bachelors and exchange courses and 21 Masters courses. The university’s mission is to educate its students at a higher level, and to meet the demands of the higher educated, and innovative people. The strength of the university lies within quality and a good reputation.

The motion graphic that I’ll be creating for Vitens would be one where Vitens advises its clients to cook the water before consuming it. I would interview some of the workers of Vitens about the soil pollution. This way the viewers will be informed about the problem and trust Vitens more seeing that they’re talking openly about the problem. Furthermore, the viewers will be informed about the risks of not cooking the water. I would also film the process where Vitens cleans the water, this way the viewers will be assured that the problem is being worked on. The motion graphic has to be trustworthy, professional, informative and appealing to the target group.

Communication The Message

The message that Vitens is trying to get across, is that there’s a soil pollution going on, and therefore the household should cook the water before consuming it.

Channels

Vitens has its own website, where it informs the visitors about the company and about the projects the company is working on. In addition Vitens has an other website, www. waterstoring.nl, where people can check for water malfunctions and see what it’s being done about it. What Vitens also does is that they send a letter to every household when they’re going to work on a project.

Noise Communication is about exchanging and interpreting signals and messages. Some factors may play a part in the success of the communication. It could be the sender, receiver, the limitations in the technology used, or environmental factors. In this case we are dealing with four actors; Vitens, the target group, me as the maker, and HAN University of Applied Sciences. All these parties have their own idea of how the product should be made. Due to these factors, several miscommunications may arise.

SITA For the subject earth I have chosen SITA as the client. SITA is a waste management company and has been developed a wide variety of services over the year.

EARTH

The company SITA provides innovative solutions to millions of people and industries in the waste management field. Their most valueble points of their branches are quality, flexibility and durability. The name SITA stands for Societe Industrielle des Transports Automobiles. In other words, it was the first motorized garbage trucks in history. A development that emerged around 1919 in major cities in France. And after all it became a need to faster disposal and hygienics. In the Netherlands SITA has about 70.000 companies as its clients. They also provide for municapabilities collection of household waste by almost four million inhabitants. SITA has round 40 office branches and approximately 2.200 employees. Â SITA is for large and small businesses. For government and business. For every type of business and every industry we have a solution.

Annie Schipper

Target group SITA provides the service of waste management. Their target group is pretty much every inhabitant that makes use of the company’s services. Every households must have waste everyday or every week. Households buy daily goods and in every goods there must be some waste to throw away. This is how every household need SITA. Only a waste management company can solve their garbage or waste. The target group will be household inhabitants with most of them are family. Family living means not only one person, but with more blood related persons. In the following part there will be two household that form part of SITA’s target group.

Annie is a 38 years old mom living in Nijmegen with her family. She is married with her husband for 4 years and they have two kids. Annie has become a housewife since she has two kids. The kids of her are still very young and she needs to look after them. Annie buys groceries every three times a week, and it’s not only a simple shopping but a big one. She has waste and garbage every day and it’s not hygienic to keep garbage in the house since she has two kids. Kids don’t know how dirty gargabes are, it can bring diseases, mosquitos and bad odor. Therefore SITA can help to solve the problem of Annie. SITA will come twice a week to take care of the garbage. Annie also has some waste when for example a old furniture that need to take care of. She can call SITA whenever it is office time to tell them to come and pick the old furniture away. And once again SITA helps Annie out with her garbage and waste.

Talia van Essen

Talia is a single 28 year old artist living with her parents in Duiven. She graduated in the past 4 years and starts her career at home. Her career is very stable since she graduated, because she was one of the best graduated student. Her paintings was nominated by several popular artist. She uses alot of paint which she will have alot of paint residue to take care of. There isn’t any disposable container around where she can throw paint residue. Therefore Talia needs a company to take care of that. That company will be SITA. Talia calls them every week so they can come and take care of the paint residue. Some people will throw it anywhere they can to get rit of it, but that is not the good way. And however talia is in a sustainable organisaton of Go Green.

Sandra Yuen Me as a maker has accepted the assignment to make a video/motion graphic for SITA company. With this motion graphic SITA can send out the message to everyone. This is not just a normal message of some marketing commercial to attract more customer, but more to help people solving their problems. I think the message that SITA really want to send out is more like to recycle products and to sorting plastics and paper so citizens can also help out with recycling. Their biggest goal is to keep the world sustainable. I am a student at the HAN University of Applied Sciences. My study is actually called Communication and Multimedia Design. This is my third year and also my last semester that I will be attending called AVI (Audio Visual Interactive). In this semester I will be specialize in motion graphics. Before this semesteer I also did Game and CRIA (Create a Rich Interactive Application) which I have gained much experience with several programs. With al these experience I think I’m able to make a motion graphic for the client SITA.

As a maker I will make a motion graphic to teach people how to recycle, like why sorting plastics and papers are important to SITA. Herefore I will make a short documentary or the process what SITA will do with the waste and garbages. The motion graphic needs to be simple and attractive so the target group can memorize the information easily.

SITA has its own website, where it informs the visitors what services they can provide. There is another company named Suez Environment which that is the head office of SITA. That makes SITA just a branch of it. Suez Environment also has its own website which every information, projects and news could be found on their website. SITA is also on the social media of Twitter and LinkdIn. There is also some short clips that had been made by SITA self on Youtube. Those clips give you some information about their daily work and how the process is made to be recycled.
