Our moods can be reflected by so many factors. For me, we recently had three days of solid rain. I live in "Sunny Florida" and that just doesn't happen very often. If I wasn't diffusing my happy wild orange, I don't know how I would have survived. Well, really I do know how exactly I would have survived. I am grateful that God is in my life and He can be my sunshine even when I don't feel very sunshiny myself. Sometimes stress, problems, a too busy schedule and the occasional three-day rain can bring me down. (How do people in Seattle do it?) How do I combat it? I know if I grab a cup of coffee, sit in my comfy chair, read my Bible and spend time journalling that I will feel renewed. It is the best pick me up. Wild orange is a close second. How's your mood? Take a moment and journal about it. You'll be glad you did.

I am sure you have seen the movie, "Nemo." For a variety of reasons, my favorite character is Dory. Throughout the movie, you'll see her singing,
"Just keep swimming, just keep swimming..." How many days do you feel you are treading water, with the need to scream out,
"JUST KEEP SWIMMING!" As Moms trying to juggle monster to-do lists, endless sports commitments, and homework battles we can feel quite overwhelmed. 6 | April 2016
Monotonous Mom responsibilities can feel like running on a hamster wheel; and I sometimes wonder if I will ever be able to exit. From laundry (and I mean lots of smelly laundry), to meals, to dishes, all the way to just everyday pick-up can seem endless. Honestly, the meals wouldn?t be so bad if a dish fairy magically appeared to clean it all up, anybody? As I lay my weary head down every night, I wonder . . . . CherishedMagazine.com
Are the very things I prayed for separating me from living a fulfilled life? Do I love my husband and my children, but hate my life? Am I letting social status dictate my decisions? Is my job taking over the real me? Are the relationships in my life drawing me closer to who I really want to be or further away?
All of us are enduring different battles, some internal and some external. Emotions come in like a wrecking ball distracting us from our most prized blessings. The most spiritual thing we can do at times is to show up in spite of the battles, because in April 2016
those moments we are trusting in our faith as the life-preserver to keep us afloat. What might seem like trivial tasks today are actually preparing us for tomorrow?s calling. Our faithfulness, integrity, diligence, and character are developed in those mundane duties we sometimes deem unimportant. This is Real Life ? we have to stop wishing for the next best thing.
Cravings for success can truly inhibit us from enjoying the blessings of today. Our ordinary responsibilities are actually privileges of our biggest blessings. Realization sets in when complaints about my busy life with kids, sports and school would not exist if it wasn?t for the blessing of my family. These normal activities are preparing us for a future, by reminding us of how truly blessed we are. What is the one CherishedMagazine.com | 7
thing older parents always tell younger parents? ?Enjoy them
while you can, they grow up way too fast.?
because if it was all taken away, your routine would be forever changed.
Moms, the days are long, but the years are short.
Enjoy your days, even in the ordinary,
Whatever season of life this is for you, I encourage you to repeat Dory?s words,

An excerpt f rom And It Was Beautiful by Kara Tippet t s Š 2016 Kara Tippetts. And It Was Beautiful is published by David C Cook. I can confidently say that I don?t live with a long list of things I want to do, see, or complete before I?m done in this place. I carried a dream for years of having a farm. I was in love with all things Wendell Berry. I could picture 10 | April 2016
it, the life of routine created by the land and its rhythms.
But beyond that I?ve never longed for having a list and checking things off. I?m happy with my old cars, my simple wardrobe, my lack of fancy things and vacations. CherishedMagazine.com
Sickness makes those bonds more real, more important. It?s people who grip my heart. Don?t get me wrong, I do love a good concert, but I also love an organic dance party in my kitchen. I love great food, but I also love a hot dog over the fire pit in my backyard. I love a hike in the mountains, but I also love a walk around the block with my people. Last week, when I heard I may have another long road to travel on this journey, I turned to Jason and cried. I told him how day after day this place is losing its grip on me. Driving down the street this place sometimes feels so slutty, so wanting my money without a care for my heart. Billboards blare at me what to buy, what to think, how to vote.
But the tie that binds me here is relationships. April 2016
Suffering has a way of exposing our theology, certainly our practical theology, where what we believe about God collides with where we live. My heart always hurts a little when someone hears my story and begins to question God?s goodness. I have found that suffering makes my faith more childlike, more simple.
Our ideas of God are not necessarily made bigger or more grandiose through suffering, but they are simplified as we wade through the unknown of what comes next.
CherishedMagazine.com | 11
Last week, in that unknown, I was smooching on Lake and the thought hit me that I won?t be around to help him navigate his first heartbreak. I was in a public place and I nearly lost my footing because of the fear that gripped me in that moment. I looked up and saw my growing girls and was almost suffocated by the thought of who will help them during the awkward years of puberty. Shouldn?t it be me? That?s the way it?s supposed to be, right? Can?t I stay and be here for them when they need me?
The truth is none of us know the length of our lives. So we pray for daily bread and say thank you when it comes. For today I have a little boy who will cross the room to give me a hug. I have a baby girl who gives me ten kisses when I ask for five. I have a preteen who still holds my hand in public, in front of her friends even. I have a second born who loves to tell me every tiny detail of her day. I have a guy who makes coffee just like I like it.
A bucket list? No, I don?t need one. I?m so rich. It?s relationships that matter. And for me, paying attention to the precious gift of today is the only thing on my list.

Let's Be Dangerous Women By Holley Gerth. I sit in a darkened auditorium with my mom on one side of me and my daughter the other. The three of us have come to hear Priscilla Shirer as part of her Fervent tour. She talks about who we are as women and all God created us to be. She also shares that we have a very real enemy who would love to see our identity stolen and purpose thwarted. Then she speaks words that are still ringing in my ears and heart? 16 | April 2016
What a shame it would be for the enemy to believe more about our potential than we do. ? Priscila Shirer She said that while we struggle sometimes to grasp the truth of who we are, the enemy does not. CherishedMagazine.com
Even on our worst days he knows we are daughters of God. He knows we are more than conquerors. He knows that we can?t be defeated. He knows that we are women of destiny with a power within us greater than we can even imagine.
His only hope is convincing us to not believe the same. As I look at my mother and daughter again I feel a sudden, fierce protectiveness. How dare he, I think. How dare he lie to them. How dare he try to steal their joy. How dare he try to make them feel like they are not enough. And I wonder in that moment if God feels the same about me. After all, we are His family. His girls.
Since that?s true, perhaps one of the greatest victories we can win for our Heavenly Father is to refuse to live in insecurity. Oh, we call it ?humility? but I think that may be just another deception of the enemy. True humility ? the kind Jesus demonstrated ? is fully knowing who we really are and then choosing to love and serve from that place. Hol y conf idence is an act of war against t he enemy of our heart s.
We are dangerous women when we know deep down that we?re loved. Because t hen we have t he kind of courage t hat changes t he worl d one heart at a t ime.

Today was the kind of day that I haven?t had in awhile. It was one of those days that from the minute I started to wake from the night?s rest that my mind clicked from the off position to the full-throttle on position . In a matter a few seconds my mind was racing with a myriad of thoughts. Thoughts of my appointments, thoughts of unfinished ?To-Do?s? and reminders of what items should be on the To-Do list that I had forgotten to jot down. Then it spiraled out of control and started going there? the dark place. The place of the should haves and could haves and why didn?t you?s. I could feel my tension rising to a panic. I had not been there in a long time? pray..yes pray. So with all of my might I shoved the ramblings of the to do list and the poking of a past that could not changed out of my mind and began to have a conversation with God.

CherishedMagazine.com | 27
I think subconsciously I thought I would get some sort of message helping me put my list of what should be done in a good and proper order. Instead I hear this: Just be in t he moment . Trust me l et me guide your day. I wil l hel p you? you are not al one. The words just sunk in like a weight that had been lifted. I didn?t feel like a failure, which would have been my normal go to feeling. I felt that I had been given a perfect gift. The reassurance I was not alone and the reminder that I was slipping into ?my schedule? and ?my To-Do list? instead of including God and His desire for me in the picture. Think of the words of Ecclesiastes 3:11 He has made everything
beautiful in its time.
Take each and every minute God gives you and trust Himwith it. Let it ring as a reminder to appreciate each beautiful moment as it happens. So how about you? Is your mind constantly going to something else when you really just need to appreciate exactly where you are now, to just breath and just be in the moment.

sunshine the way it can lift your mood. Possible added bonuses could be that you may be able to function better and concentrate on your work. Your stress will drop and you will be able to complete your job function more accurately with fewer mistakes due to the mental fatigue. Not all mental fatigue comes from the work environment.
