A fire was reported behind the fire station around 4.30am on Saturday, 15 September. When the Bulletin arrived thick smoke was billowing into the air. Huge flames were seen behind the fire station. The Bulletin found the fire department were already busy extinguishing the fire. Initial indications are that it was only old tyres that were burnt in the fire. The extent of the fire is worrying as there are supposed to be guards that did not detect the fire quickly enough. Is this not cause for concern taking into consideration the number of theft cases reported? GMM fire department did a very good job in extinguishing the fire. The equipment is in a poor state and the fire department went out of their way to make the systems work. Hats off to them!
Sasol is under increasing pressure from Solidarity On Friday the South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg granted Solidarity’s application in terms of section 77 of the Labour Relations Act, ruling that the National Economic Development Council (Nedlac) must revise its initial decision to reject Solidarity’s application. This ruling means that Nedlac must now reconsider Solidarity’s section 77 application so that all of the trade
union’s members at all places of work may lawfully participate in protest action in solidarity with the Sasol strikers and against the exclusion of races in employee share ownership plans. Solidarity Chief Executive Dr Dirk Hermann said in reaction to the favourable ruling that frustration with the exclusion of races goes beyond just Sasol. “The Sasol workers are
symbolising something so many Solidarity members are experiencing,” Hermann explained. Continuing, Hermann said: “We are planning a huge protest action to support Sasol members and to protest racial exclusion. It will be a historical protest expressing a voice not heard before.” The date of the strike will be announced as soon as the Nedlac
process has been finalised. In further developments in the ongoing strike, Sasol’s Sasolburg plant experienced chaos as Solidarity shifted their focus to the Sasolburg plant. By rights, a steam plant at Sasol 1 should have been shut down on Saturday morning as striking workers were not going to report for the day shift. Continued to page 3

Accidents endanger us all Flicker robots The state of disrepair in GMM is now impacting on the safety of its residents. The Out-of-Order traffic lights at the entrance to Secunda (Mercedes dealership) was the cause of yet another accident on Saturday 15 September. To compound the problem, electrical faults also darkened the area. There is no indication that there should be working traffic lights nor is there any indication that the traffic lights are out of order. As a VW Polo entered the crossing a Toyota Carolla turned into the approaching Polo’s path. Both vehicles were in complete darkness except for their own headlights. Fortunately only minor injuries were sustained by one of the drivers in what could have been a fatal accident. Charlie 5 In a separate accident a Toyota Yaris and a Toyota Hilux collided close to Charlie 5 gate at approximately 06H35 on Saturday 15 September. It is ironic that one person was going to work while the other was returning from work. The driver of the Hilux was seriously injured in the accident. It is alleged that the Hilux was in the correct lane when the Yaris swerved into its path. The Bulletin would like to urge all motorists, especially those returning from the long shutdown shifts, to exercise caution while travelling and not to speed nor to take chances on the road. Charlie 5 An accident occurred on the road to Charlie 5 at approximately 22:15 on Saturday 15 September. It is alleged that the vehicle was being towed at a very high speed. The vehicle that was being towed collided with the bridge and was torn in half. The driver was taken to hospital by the driver of the towing vehicle. Motorists should take caution when
towing other vehicles. Kinross A Megabus and a large truck collided early on Monday, 17 September, outside Kinross next to Thistle Grove.
Both vehicles were wrecked in the accident. The driver of the bus sustained serious injuries. Unfortunately the driver of the truck sustained fatal injuries.

Crime snippets Two men arrested for possession of suspected stolen stock (stock theft) Bethal: On Friday 2018-09-14 at 08h40 police in Bethal arrested two men for being in possession of suspected stolen goods. The police officer was on duty executing social crime prevention duties when he received a tip-off about suspects loading cow portions in the car. He then drove to the said address and stopped a metallic green vehicle at the gate and requested to search it. The driver permitted the member to search the vehicle and upon searching the police noticed three packages wrapped in black plastics in the back of the vehicle. He then requested the proof of purchase from the driver but he failed to produce it. When asked about the
reason for being in possession of the cow portions, one of them said they bought it from someone in the early hours on Friday. As police are experiencing a lot of criminal activities in the vicinity of Bethal, the two suspects were arrested for possession of suspected stolen stock (Stock-theft) and they were detained at Bethal SAPS cells.
Suspect arrested for cultivation of dagga eMzinoni: A 22-year-old male was arrested for cultivation of dagga at Ext 05 Mzinoni township. The crime prevention team led by Constable Mluleki Methula were conducting the crime prevention duties around the township when they spotted green plants suspected to be dagga plants and stopped by the gate, requested entry from the owner and they were permitted to enter. He was arrested and detained at Mzinoni SAPS cells.

Sasol is under increasing pressure from Solidarity Solidarity members, who had been on duty for the night shift on Friday night, had offered to work longer on Saturday morning to ensure the safe shutdown of the plant. However, Sasol decided to keep the plant in question operational, running it with staff who do not have the necessary clearances and certifications to work on the plant. This, of course, gave rise to major concerns about the safety of employees on the plant. The decision to keep the plant running with the services of employees who are not duly qualified to do so is reckless. Meanwhile, Solidarity has directed a letter to the Department of Labour to bring Sasol’s course of action to the department’s attention and to express its concern about management’s decision that could compromise the safety of employees. Moreover, Solidarity’s members also had to endure victimisation and threats from, among others, management and this while the employees in question are participating in lawful labour action. According to Solidarity Deputy General Secretary, Deon Reyneke, Solidarity also indicated in a letter to the company that management would be held liable should their course of action bear any negative consequences or any loss whatsoever. According to Reyneke, the plant is now run by persons who had last worked at Steam Station-1 ten years ago. “At the moment, there is no one on the plant who is certified as competent to work there with the exception of a foreman who was brought in as a contractor to work on the night shift on Saturday. At the moment, Sasol’s action is far from responsible and the plant is being operated unlawfully,” Reyneke said. Trade union Solidarity has accused Sasol of compromising safety by making workers who are not properly trained to replace its striking members at the Sasolburg plant. The union said in a statement Sasol was running the Sasolburg plant with staff who “do not have the necessary clearances and certifications” – causing concern over the safety of employees. “The decision to keep the plant
running with the services of employees who are not duly qualified to do so, is reckless,” said the union. In further developments, the National Bargaining Council for the Chemical Industry has withdrawn Sasol’s variation licence - for employees to work overtime - due to health and safety concerns. According to the letter by the Bargaining Council to Sasol on Monday, which Fin24 has seen, the company’s variation licence GP 11/17 is suspended with immediate effect. The Bargaining Council received several complaints by trade union Solidarity of unsafe operating conditions at the chemical company’s Sasolburg operations. The licence was granted to Sasol by the Council on October 23 for 12 months and could be withdrawn at any time, at its discretion. Overtime to affect shutdown? The union wrote several letters to the Bargaining Council complaining of “unsafe conditions” at Sasolburg during the strike and questioned whether workers were informed of their rights to withdraw from unsafe working conditions, afforded rest periods and training. Solidarity’s chemical sector coordinator and Bargaining Council Chairperson, Gerhard Cloete, questioned whether Sasol will be able to continue with its scheduled shutdown programme after the licence for overtime has been suspended. According to the Council the suspension will remain in place pending the resolution of the health and safety contraventions at the Sasolburg operations and the matter will be addressed by the organisation’s Operations Committee “as a matter of urgency”. Meanwhile, on Monday, Solidarity again applied for permission to embark on a one-day sympathy nationwide strike to the National Economic Development and Labour Council (Nedlac) after the high court ruled in the union’s favour on Friday. Solidarity is on strike in response to Sasol’s employee share ownership plan
Sasol values Safety Safe conditions Sasol notes Solidarity’s claims that conditions at our Sasolburg Operations are unsafe. We do not agree with this claim and there is no indication that safety at our operations has been compromised. We are engaging the Department of Labour in this regard, as well as the local licensing authorities. Safety is a value at Sasol and we prioritise the safety and wellbeing of all personnel at all our operations. Sasolburg Operations Although there were some employees who did not arrive at the shift change at our Sasolburg Operations over the weekend, we activated contingency plans to minimise potential interruption to those particular activities. We have internal industrial relations processes within Human Resources that all employees have the right of recourse on any concerns or problems that may arise. Secunda Operations As previously stated, with the demonstration at our Secunda Operations on 6 September, we
experienced a temporary decrease in attendance by Solidarity members. This led to a decrease and delay in some planned activities to which Solidarity alludes. Separately to the scheduled shutdown at our Secunda Operations, there are other projects underway. Some of these projects experienced some slippage due to technical challenges but these have been resolved and the projects are virtually complete. We continue to ensure that our running operations and shutdown schedule progress safely, as planned, while closely monitoring the situation. Engagement with Solidarity Furthermore, Sasol has agreed to participate in the CCMA mediation process with Solidarity commencing 19 September 2018. National Bargaining Council The National Bargaining Council for the Chemical Industry (NBCCI) has withdrawn its suspension of our shutdown variation licence with immediate effect. The variation licence remains active.
that excludes white workers. The strike is now in its third week. Solidarity also published reports from Sasol showing that Sasol’s maintenance schedule at Secunda was falling behind exponentially because of the trade
union strike. On 11 September, the maintenance schedule at the Secunda plant was already 24 hours behind schedule, on 12 September it was 48 hours behind and on 13 September already 72 hours behind.

Ds Marius Britz Een van die mees aangrypende inleidings tot ‘n boek is in Charles Dickens se “Tale of two cities.” Die teenstellings van lewe word skreiend beskryf: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair. We had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way- in short: that period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.”
Leë plekke by jou kersfeestafel. Dinge verander. Jou foto’s bewys dit. Soos Dickens sê: Jy het the spring of hope.
Maart daar was beweging in my lewe.
Toe sê hy: “Die antwoord is in jou hand.” Verander jou worst of times in best of times.
Remebering the Two Comma Four Let us remind our reader of facts regarding the “Two comma Four”, as published in our publication dated 10 August 2018. The military fitness tests that were compulsory for all conscripts and part and parcel of becoming an officer and a noncommissioned officer. They, the course attendees, were expected to meet the minimum standard of 12 minutes or less for this run. Normally this run would necessitate being dressed in fatigues, boots, harnessed with full webbing, “Staal Dak” helmet with plastic inner, rifle and a 1 litre bottle full of water, attached to your webbing belt, fastened around your waist, that the belt, in turn, supported and connected all the individual components of the webbing. A one pip loot and or some NCO’s would mark the 2,4 in a straight run or use a turnaround point at the theoretical 1200m away. A regular fitness and readiness test of the soldier. The distance seemed endless, as the loot that was expected to be at
the turnaround mark, was nowhere to be seen. At some point, we “roofies” realised this fact and turned around back to the starting line. Was this act of the Loot deliberate? The jury is still out on that. Taking changes “to Jippo” was par of the course, hiding in the long grass, use water to exemplify sweat, crouching behind walls and other hiding places were the norm. Most of the time this practice would manifest in some dire consequences for the all of those who shared that particular section or platoon. Easy peasy, I hear some of our readers say, map out a 2400m course, use safety boots, a backpack containing 25kg, simulating the helmet, rifle and webbing, head out on the set route, at say 09H00 and endeavour to finish in 12 minutes. Today? Most veterans would probably not even manage 1 kilometer. But the nostalgia of the “Two comma Four” will forever be part and parcel of an era past.

On Sunday, 16 September, the community decided enough is enough and dumped their garbage in front of GMM building in Secunda. The Bulletin reported on this matter on Sunday night live on Facebook. The atmosphere was one of disappointment because of services not being rendered and the community having to remove their own garbage at an extra cost. If the community does not remove their own garbage it piles up and can become a health risk. By law one cannot stop paying the waste removal fee but if service is not being rendered it is understandable that the community doesn’t want to pay for that service if they must pay from their own pocket an extra fee to remove their waste.
ANC must be held accountable - DA Residents of Govan Mbeki Municipality have been living among their refuse bags, rats and filth for months, despite the deafening silence of the responsible MMC for Community Services, Anthony
Makhaye. Roughly, since November 2017 there has been no consistency in removing refuse weekly. In some areas such as parts of Ext 22 and 23 in Secunda, refuse remained
uncollected by the municipality for up to six weeks. Excuses given by the ANC led municipality include the likes of vehicles not being roadworthy, teams striking because of PPE, vehicle breakdowns and even problems with simpler solutions such as fuel shortages. Currently a refuse removal worker has access to PPE that consists of 1 overall, 1 pair of boots, 1 pair of gloves (per week), no mask and no raincoat. Most recently, the waste removal team striked for the second time for the duration of two weeks due to not having any PPE. According to the Occupational Health and Safety Act, PPE must include at least 2 quality overalls, 1 pair of safety boots, 2-3 pairs of gloves per week, a mask and a raincoat. In addition, mechanical contractors are often not paid, causing for refuse removal vehicles not to be released and only adding to the existing backlog of refuse in the streets and the frustration of residents and workers with no resources to their disposal alike. In May 2018, Councillor Marietjie Fourie of the DA tabled a motion in council, moving for refuse removal charges on municipal accounts to be credited to residents since the service is not delivered. The motion was thrown out by the ANC majority, following a short discussion of bogus technicalities and irrelevant quotations from the Standing Orders. Following vigorous opposition from the DA caucus with regards to the 2018/19 budget of the municipality, it was approved by the ANC majority in July. Despite highlighting several concerns in the budget and fighting for the non-implementation of a tariff increase with regard to refuse removal, or rather non-removal, the budget was pushed through nonetheless. It is typical of the ANC not to vote with their conscience but rather their cadres when important matters such as these are considered by the council. Sadly, the political leadership of this municipality has no sympathy
towards either the undignified filth that residents have gotten used to, or the undignified working conditions and lack of resources that workers must tolerate. The DA will continue to hold the ANC led municipality accountable and emphasise its financial incompetency. Placing the municipality under administration, as was considered by the Provincial Legislature would have been an action in the best interest of the people. Alternative to the administration, as was decided by the ANC, it appears that visits from Premier Mtshweni and Minister Mkhize was just an ANC roadshow with no end to improve service delivery for the angered residents of Govan Mbeki, including the issue of refuse removal that is apparently unbeknownst to them. Residents have become so frustrated and infuriated with the situation that the community has banded together and dumped heaps of garbage bags in front of every entrance to the municipality on Sunday the 16th September. Though the DA does not condone illegal dumping or littering to that extent, the frustration of the residents are received loudly and clearly and the ANC-led Council must account for its lack in delivering services that residents are exorbitantly overcharged for. As the DA, we urge the Acting Municipal Manager, Executive Mayor Thandi Ngxonono and her MMC for community services Anthony Makhaye to construct with a turnaround plan for refuse removal that would be implemented for once by placing their political ambitions aside and considering the rational and constructive advice of the DA; and for the Provincial Legislature to reconsider the topic of administration until residents are afforded the opportunity to vote for servant leadership. Govan Mbeki deserves an opportunity for lasting change that will deliver services as is being done in Johannesburg, Tshwane and Midvaal where the DA governs. A vote for the DA is a vote for Change.

"Land grabs" reaches GMM The Bulletin recently reported on land invasions in Kriel and warned that Govan Mbeki municipality will not be spared and that preparation should be made. On Tuesday, 11 September, around 13:00 there was an attempted land grab outside of Kinross. The people were busy staking out plots and there was a large police contingency present. Unbeknownst to the people, there was an existing court order prohibiting anyone from land grabbing. It was explained to the community that they were in contravention of the court order, which had already been obtained in 2014. This court order is a blanket court order covering all municipal land as explained by Mr. Gininda. The community was also informed that, should they continue, they would be arrested.
Most of the members of the community, who initially participated in the land grabs, abided by the court order and vacated the land. Approximately twenty people were arrested for contravening the court order. The police gave them fair time to vacate while they were waiting for back up to arrive. As police back up arrived, the police discussed how to handle the situation at hand. It was decided that, as the community members were knowingly in contravention of the court order, they would have to be arrested. Two police vans and two police combis entered the field and apprehended the perpetrators in a calm and orderly manner. It is not clear who arranged the invasions but it would appear that this would happen again. - AnĂŠ Prinsloo

Sasol hands over school support resources for the Govan Mbeki Municipality (GMM) intervention programme Sasol handed over school support resources on Wednesday 12 September for the Govan Mbeki Municipality (GMM) intervention programme. Currently, there is a shortage of resources in schools. This hampers the progress of learners especially in the Physical Science, Life Sciences, Mathematics and Accounting subjects which to address this, Sasol in partnership with its flagship project Osizweni Education and Development Centre and the Department of Education, have donated the following: • 2151 study guides for grade 10-12 for Physical Science, Life Sciences, Mathematics and Accounting • 413 white-boards to 59 schools • Eight mobile classrooms to three schools with learner and teacher furniture • Interactive E-learning programme • Dipaleseng Project A implementation • Learner’s awards for Grade 7-11

Young City Boys FC have big dreams Coach Katlego and Coach Lebo started off as soccer players themselves. After going to trials in eMbalenhle for another team, the idea hit them: there are so many boys in Secunda and neighbouring towns that they knew of, who would love to play soccer, but it was dangerous to play in the streets. Young City Boys’ FC was born right there and then! The coaches decided to start with U/13 and U/15 teams and see how it went. If they succeeded, they would progress to U/17 and U/19 next year. The two coaches approached Mr Kgomo, a lawyer from Evander and a neighbour in their street in Ext. 22, who agreed to support the coaches as a sponsor to assist with transport, buying kits and training equipment. The team still has to be registered at a cost of
approximately R600.00. The coaches and their teams are frequently hosting fund raisers and sell sweets towards the needs of the team. Recently they bought a new kit for the team from the money raised. The team is currently selling team t-shirts for the team and supporters. The shirts cost R300.00. The team will make a R25.00 profit off each shirt sold and this money will go directly towards the team. Their aim is to use the money to buy more training equipment. The Young City Boys FC played a match on Saturday, 15 September, and beat their opponents 4 – 0. Young City Boys FC is about more than just soccer. The boys learn discipline and the coaches encourage them to dream big and to believe in those dreams. This is a family. – Ané Prinsloo Daar was lekker visgevang by Koos Kruger se dam net buite Trichardt..
Rich bass tones travelled through the air as Theunis Botha gave an excellent performance to a small select crowd at the St. Peter's United Church. The Belle Canto Choir also delighted the audience. Hannelie Pienaar and Simon du Toit accompanied the vocalists on the piano

Fightstar 36 at Graceland, 20 October!
Fightstar 36 will be hosted at Graceland on Saturday 20 October 2018! This will be an event not to be missed and tickets will be sold out early. The Bulletin was appointed as the official media partner for the event and Roman alarms will provide security at the event. The arena at Graceland will be buzzing as the fighters tackle their opponents. Ané Prinsloo, The Bulletin’s reporter, has started with the rigorous program to prepare for a fight and has been keeping a diary. Ané will be bringing our readers regular updates. Videos of her training will be airing, from this week, on our Facebook page as well as the Fightstar pages. Ané will not participate in any fights but will endeavour to bring the hardships, comradery, friendships and sweat as the fighters prepare for their fights. Here is the first excerpt from her diary. 05/09/2018 The day I dreaded has arrived. At 18:15 I arrive at Dominator’s Den Gym. I get greeted by Paul “Piksteel” Ronge. When Cedric “The Dominator” Doyle arrives, the fun starts. Paul warms me up while Cedric gets the gloves and pads ready. Ready, set and stand up. That is how Cedric explains how you should stand with your feet. Protect your head with your hands and make sure you can still see your opponent. Never stand still, always keep moving. The hitting starts: left jab, right jab. Stop! I forgot to breath while punching. Cedric explains that if I don’t breathe, I am going to tire out too soon. Let’s go again! One punch, two punches, keep moving. Jab, punch, duck, punch, knee and kick! With all this punching and kicking, the gloves graze Cedric
now and again. When telling me to kick the pads, I kick him on the other side. With an embarrassed look on my face and nonstop giggling, we continue and finish a few more spars. I am more unfit than I thought! What did I get myself into?! 12/09/2018 Lesson 2! I am at Dominator’s Den at 18:20. The night starts off with my first video interview with Paul “Piksteel” Ronge and he also leads the warm up. It is my official first class with all the boys! We keep jogging, high knees, kick backs, punches and sideways. It doesn’t want to stop. We keep going around the gym and all I want to do is fall down and die of exhaustion, but I push myself. It is amazing what mind over matter can make you achieve. Even though my body wanted to fall over and lie like a sack of potatoes, I keep going and keeping up. After the warm up and stretches, coach Cedric “The Dominator” Doyle and assistant coach Piksteel show the class some drills. I get paired with Piksteel and the two of us practice the drills. It is not as easy as it looks and you’re not allowed to go for the private parts, which is the first defence any woman learns! There goes that idea! I must ‘sex his leg’ - lift his leg up with mine while I have to pin him against the wall, use my head to pin his head down against the wall and get my arm around his waist to grab his opposite hip. That is when I pull his legs apart, grab his ankle at the Achilles heel, lift him up and once he falls down, I must pin him to the ground. After every few minutes coach Cedric and Piksteel explain
something new to the class and we practice it. It starts out to be so much fun, but after a while I lose concentration because I am not as fit or rather not fit at all, but I push through until the end of the class. I had so much fun and got my first carpet burn! Well worth it! 14/09/2018 On a Friday night you’d expect people to be out and about, but not us. With the 20th of October creeping up, the training intensifies. The guys are so focused and helpful and that pushes me to learn more and faster. A lot of the training tonight is individual in a group and then the guys spar against each other. I didn’t have much to do, but enjoyed the smell of commitment and the passion that the guys exude. It is truly inspiring… and then I have to walk or jog and I feel the pain and burn without even a thank you! But never give up, keep pushing and you’ll reach your goal or rather, I’ll reach mine. SA Rally title hopes set to sink or swim in Lake Umuzi Rally The destination of the 2018 SA Rally Championship reaches a crossroads in Secunda on the weekend of 28 and 29 September with two teams in contention for the title .The Lake Umuzi Rally will either see Guy Botterill/Simon Vacy Lyle (Toyota Gazoo Racing Etios R2) add another title to their impressive CV or AC Potgieter/Nico Swartz (Lake Umuzi Volkswagen Polo R2) take the title fight to the final round in October. With four consecutive victories and a seven point lead to their credit, Botterill and Vacy Lyle start the Secunda event as outright favourites for overall honours. Victory for the current champions will result in the KwaZulu Natal team raking in their fifth consecutive title, emulating the feats of Serge Damseaux (92-95) and Sarel van der Merwe (77-85). To stop this happing, AC Potgieter must win his home rally and Botterill must end second or lower. While Botterill’s four victories look impressive, he has had gearbox problems on several events so victory is not a foregone conclusion. Potgieter has banked four second-place finishes and one third place result. An overall victory has eluded the 24-year-old building contractor so far; achieving this at home would be a hugely popular result. Out of the title hunt after winning the season’s opening event, Richard Leeke/Henry Kohne (Speedglas Ford
Fiesta R2) will be out to spoil the party and consolidate their third place on the overall log. Two non-finishes this season scuppered their chances of fighting for the overall title, leaving bragging rights on individual events as their main aim now. Chris Coertse/Greg Godrich (Electrothread Mazda R2) won the Secunda Rally last year on the Mazda’s debut. The pair earned a single podium so far this season and lie fourth on the championship log, tied with Tjaart Conradie/Mari van der Walt (Silverton Engineering Toyota Etios R2) who has scored points on every round. Mathew Vacy Lyle will have Schalk van Heerden reading notes in Secunda; he led the championship after two rounds but three non-finishes have dropped the Yato Tools Toyota Etios R2 driver to sixth in the standings. Two teams capable of causing an upset in the form book are JJ Potgieter/ Tommy du Toit (Verco Ford Fiesta R2) and Jono van Wyk/Barry White (Swazi Cowboy Ford Fiesta R2). Both teams are super-quick and capable of finishing on the podium, given a turn in luck. George Smalberger/Carolyn Swan (Shield Car care Volkswagen Polo R2) will be chasing their first podium of the year. For overall rally line honours, Theuns Joubert/Chris Brand (Salom Group Toyota Auris S2000) will be the team to beat, although they don’t qualify for championship points. The Open class should see a four- way fight between Rory Eland/Robbie Coetzee (Subaru Impreza STi), Natie Booysen/Johan Smit (Ford Escort Mk 1), Ashley/Les McKenzie (Ford Escort Mk 1) and Sybrand van den berg/ Chantelle Burrows (Toyota Tazz). Local farmer Kosie van der Merwe/Coen van Zyl won the class last year and should give their competitors a run for their money this time around. The Lake Umuzi Rally gets underway on Thursday with a shakedown stage opposite Graceland Casino, followed by scrutineering at Eastvaal Ford/ Mazda in Secunda. The rally proper starts on Friday at 3pm from the
AC Potgieter/Nico Swartz
Guy Botterill/Simon Vacy-Lyle dealership. Crews will face four stages, with the final stage run at night and in reverse road order. The 8am Saturday start sees teams tackle eight speed tests; the highlight will be back-toback runs over the superspecial stage, with two cars competing side-by side, starting at 13h00. The rally is set to finish at Lake Umuzi at 15h30. The Lake Umuzi Rally is the centrepiece
