Blackout weekend for eMbalenhle: a reason for three murders?
T
hursday evening, 14 November, at around 18h30 some parts of eMbalenhle were left with no power as a sub-station’s breakers blew out in extension 5. This was according to a statement issued by Govan Mbeki Municipality on their Facebook page later that night. This affected almost 70% of eMbalenhle from Thursday until Sunday afternoon when the power came back on in the affected areas. It was too late as three people were brutally murdered, allegedly, in the darkness. The comments and the responses from the community blamed the blown-out beakers as the reason why three people were allegedly killed in three separate incidents. Friday evening, in extension 4, a man parked his vehicle on the side of the road, his car doors locked automatically and he had forgotten his keys and cell phone inside his car. After a few minutes of him battling to open the car, he decided to break a window hoping that he would fix it later. Upon breaking the window, community members, who watched from afar, thought that he was stealing the car and started beating
him. He was severely injured when someone noticed the large group of people standing next to the car. The man came closer to ask what had happened. He was told that the man who was beaten, broke the window of the car. A passer-by knew him and informed the group that he was the owner of the car. When they tried to rush him to hospital it was too late and he succumbed to his injuries. Another incident that happened on Saturday night in extension 7, known as Time Houses, saw someone noticing a man in his early 20s lying in a pool of blood. He called the neighbours for assistance; an ambulance and the police were summoned to the horrific scene. The man suffered severe injuries and allegedly died due to a loss of blood. A neighbour spoke to The Bulletin and said that she heard a man crying loudly for help and she didn’t take notice as she thought it was just some young guys from one of the nearby taverns known to the community. Shortly after, a call came through from a shop in extension 15. They said that they were looking for the police as there were a group of people beating a man on the street. All role players rushed to the scene and upon arrival
a man was found lying in the road with wounds all over his body. No one could tell what happened to him or how he was killed. All these incidents happened at different places that were allegedly affected by the electricity cuts over the weekend and all fingers pointed to the local municipality and its leadership. The opinion of the people is that GMM is incompetent and can’t do the work. A big debate regarding GMM leadership caught everyone’s attention on social media platforms on Friday morning. Some people said that they have no one to blame because they voted for them to lead them into darkness and that they will vote for them again to lead them to more potholes, sewerage problems and water shortages in the 2021 elections. There are mixed emotions over the past weekend that will be remembered as a dark weekend by the community of eMbalenhle. The safety and humanity amongst the community members are of great concern to everyone especially after this weekend’s ruthless killings of the young people and the alleged lack of major steps being taken by stakeholders. The community needs to take a firm stand against the
senseless killings in eMbalenhle. The police alone cannot fight crime. All stakeholders have to join hands in fighting crime. 2019 was filled with crime in eMbalenhle. Community members have said that they hope 2020 will bring more blessings. #Stopkilling our people #Itendsnow - Sandile Mkhwanazi

snippets The master of high court and companion remanded in custody The Mpumalanga Master of High Court, Bina Masuku (44) and her companion Elvis Kgosiemang (35) were remanded in custody by the Nelspruit Magistrate Court on Monday, 11 November, after they were arrested by members of the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation Unit on 7 and 8 November respectively for Fraud, Corruption,
Money Laundering and Contravention of the Immigration Act. The investigation, which was launched by the Serious Commercial Investigations, has been probing the alleged siphoning of claimant’s funds from the Master’s office for almost two years. It was established that the senior official allegedly directed claimants to her “lawyer” boyfriend to process their claims. Some claimants never received their monies. Instead it was shared among the two. So far almost R1.7 million has since disappeared from eight families. Enquiries have revealed that the boyfriend is not a lawyer and also that Masuku misrepresented the State by claiming to be a South African. The Department of Home Affairs’ Immigration Division has finalised their investigation into her status in the country. It is suspected that the missing R1.7 million is just the tip of the iceberg and affected members of the Mpumalanga community are urged to contact Captain Mandla Mphephethe @071 4813295.
Public assistance sought for Sam Holdings’ general manager murder case The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation in Mpumalanga is urging anyone who knows the whereabouts of Mhlabuyaxega Khumalo. It is believed that Khumalo can assist the investigators with valuable information regarding circumstances under which the late Nkosinathi Ngcobo (30) was allegedly murdered on the night of 12 September. Ngcobo was shot and killed while on duty at Sam Holdings truck depot. Phindokuhle Eugene Nkosi (26) was arrested in the early hours of 13 September following intensive Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation. His matter has been on the court roll since and he remains in custody, he is expected back in court on 10 December pending further investigation.Anyone who knows Khumalo’s whereabouts is urged to contact the Investigating Officer Colonel Daniel Hall: 071 481 3281. Information received will be treated with the strictest confidentiality.
Alleged fraudster sought for siphoning R3 million The Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation unit in Mpumalanga is requesting for assistance from the
public to identify a person of interest as per attached pictures in connection with fraud. It is alleged that in 2013, an unknown suspect who claimed to work for the Mbombela Municipality fraudulently opened a bank account using false particulars. The Mpumalanga Provincial Department of Public Works allegedly paid R3 million into the said account seemingly to settle an account owed to the Municipality. It later emerged that the money was paid into the alleged fraudster’ account. The Hawks’ investigation with the aid of footage obtained from the bank where the account was opened, discovered that large cash withdrawals were made from ATMs and inside various bank branches in Gauteng including Kempton Park, Ormonde, Sandton and other surrounding areas. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is urged to contact the investigating officers: Captain Mandla Mphephethe at 071 481 3295 and Captain Jabu Mahlangu at 072 5497 802.
Hawks sting leads to arrest of two suspects for corruption The collaboration between the DPCI and the SIU has led to the arrest of two suspects for alleged bribery in Polokwane. The two suspects, 34 and 44, were arrested by Hawks serious corruption members on Wednesday, 13 November, after they bribed an SIU investigator to exclude the portion of the report that recommended that their company be charged criminally and further asked to reduce the amount to be paid back. The finding was that the service should pay back R3 million and face criminal charges for a tender that was not serviced yet they submitted documents to the Mopani Municipality for payments. On Wednesday, 13 November, in one of Polokwane’s hotels, the suspects met the investigator and handed over a R300 000 gratification which led to their immediate arrest. Efforts are already underway to forfeit the R300 000 bribe money to the state and also to ascertain that the suspects are liable to pay back the R3 million. The National Head of the DPCI, Lieutenant General Godfrey Lebeya has congratulated both teams for collaborating in the arrest of the two suspects. He welcomed the ongoing efforts by law enforcement by identifying and imposing significant arrests as well as investing in integrity and protecting government institutions from corruption. Meanwhile, the Head of the SIU National Advocate, Any Mothibi has also welcomed the arrest of the criminals and commended the SIU investigator who has demonstrated that SIU investigators put integrity at the centre of their work. Advocate Mothibi also commended the excellent collaboration between the SIU and Hawks that led to the arrest. “We are proud of our official who stayed true to what he stands for and put integrity before greed,” he concluded.
Provincial commissioner welcomes hefty sentence meted out against rapist The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma has welcomed a hefty sentence meted down by the Witbank Magistrate’s Court where a 36-year-old man was sentenced to life imprisonment for raping his 11-year-old niece. According to evidence presented in court, the incident took place on 25 December 2014, at Likazi, Coronation
22 November 2019 in Witbank. The accused, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the child, had invited his sister with her children to celebrate Christmas together. That evening while everyone was asleep, except for the child who was watching TV with the accused, it was reported that he grabbed her and raped her. The court heard how the accused threatened the child not to tell anyone about what had happened and gave her R30 to keep it a secret. The following morning the victim reported the incident to her mother who alerted the police and the accused was arrested. General Zuma is pleased with the collective work done by the investigating team, the National Prosecution Authority, the Judiciary as well as Forensics which led to the conviction. He further said that criminals who commit such violent crimes cannot be left roaming around the streets freely while innocent women and children live in fear. Meanwhile, a 33-year-old man appeared in the Witbank Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, 15 November, for dealing in dagga. The suspect was arrested on 16 November after members of Middelburg Flying Squad as well as Crime Intelligence received information about a vehicle that was transporting dagga from Nelspruit to Gauteng (Pretoria). They launched an AdvocateOperation on the N4 highway and a suspicious vehicle matching the description was stopped and pulled off the road. They searched it and upon searching, bags of dagga were found inside the vehicle boot, back seat and front seat as well, with an estimated street value of R336 000.
Hawks seek assistance in identifying wanted suspects for conspiracy to kidnap and murder POPCRU members The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation is asking for help in locating two suspects wanted for alleged conspiracy to kidnap and murder prominent Police And Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU) senior officials. The DPCI has secured warrants of arrest from the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court for Popcru’s Chief Executive Officer, Zwelinkosi Reuben Mdletshe and Robert Sherriff. Their pursuit comes in the wake of an apparent elaborate plot to kidnap and murder current serving members within the leadership of Popcru. The investigation commenced in September this year and so far, it has revealed there was apparent misappropriation of funds that was carried out through Popcru Investment Group of Companies (PIGC). These substantial transactions were allegedly embezzled since 2016. A Lesotho national, Neo Letele (34), was arrested in Kempton Park on 6 November. Letele is apparently the middleman who was instructed by Mdletshe and Sherriff to source the assassin who was to be paid R 1 million to execute the hit. This was in an attempt to silence those who wanted the two suspects to account for the funds. Letele made his first court appearance at the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on 7 November and a follow-up on 13 November, wherein the case was postponed to 20 November for a formal bail application whilst investigation continue. The Hawks’ would like to urge members of the public who may have knowledge of Mdletshe and Sherriff’s whereabouts to contact Sergeant Steve Ndabambi on 0825594613 or Captain Naborth Mavuso on 0824619486.

World Remembrance Day for Victims of Road Accidents 2019 On 17 November The Bulletin reported on road accidents over the past two years and has set the trend (in GMM) regarding the reporting of accidents. So much so that others have now copied our idea on reporting. What we can never report on is the actual trauma and horror of such accidents. The horror that a mother has to go through when she loses her husband or child/ren when they were killed in an accident. Nor can we report on the horror of losing children in a packed vehicle. The trauma and shock of the survivors are never told. We can, however, try to make a difference. Let’s stop for a moment and think of those that survived but were severely affected by road accidents. The following statement comes from the government site (https://www.gov. za/): “The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims (WDR) is commemorated on the third Sunday of November each year – to remember the many millions killed and injured on the world’s roads, together with their families, friends and many others who are also affected. It is also a day on which we thank the emergency services and reflect on the tremendous burden and cost of this daily continuing disaster to families, communities and countries and on
ways to halt it. Road deaths and injuries are sudden, violent, traumatic events. Their impact is long-lasting, often permanent. Each year, millions of newly injured and bereaved people from every corner of the world are added to the countless millions who already suffer. The cumulative toll is truly tremendous. The grief and distress experienced by this huge number of people is all the greater because many of the victims are young, because many of the crashes could and should have been prevented and because governments’ and society’s response to road death and injury and to bereaved and injured victims are often inadequate, unsympathetic and inappropriate to a loss of life or quality of life. This special Remembrance Day is therefore intended to respond to the great need of road crash victims for public recognition of their loss and suffering. It has also become an important tool for governments and those who work to prevent crashes or respond to the aftermath, since it offers the opportunity to demonstrate the enormous scale and impact of road deaths and injuries and the urgent need for action. Since the adoption of the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, pursuant to General Assembly resolution 60/5, the observance
Accident leaves one dead
An accident occurred at the Brendan Village four-way crossing near Megabus on Sunday, 17 November, at about 23H00. It is alleged that the VW Polo had right of way but a BMW driver thought the crossing was a fourway stop. The Polo was hit on the side. The Polo driver suffered fatal injuries. Three other people were transported to hospital.
has spread to a growing number of countries on every continent. This day has become an important tool in global efforts to reduce road casualties. It offers an opportunity for drawing attention to the scale of emotional and economic devastation caused by road crashes and for giving recognition to the suffering of road crash victims and the work of support and rescue services. In 2008, remembrance services and other related events were held in such countries as Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, India, Japan, Mexico, Nigeria, the Philippines, South Africa, Uganda and the United States and almost every country in Europe.” Worldwide, nearly 1.25 million people die in road crashes each year, on average 3,287 deaths a day. An additional 20 - 50 million are injured or disabled. More than half of all road traffic deaths occur among young adults aged 15 - 44. In December 2018 IOL wrote: ”A report issued by the World Health Organisation in 2010 shows that South Africa has one of the world’s poorest road safety records – ± 31.9 fatalities/100 000 people while comparable developing countries have a much lower fatality rate. For African countries, the average
fatality rate is ± 24.1 fatalities/100 000 people, whilst globally; the average is ± 18 fatalities/100 000 people. In South Africa, approximately 1 million road accidents are reported per year. The majority of the accidents that occur are caused by human factors, with, on average over 40 people a day being fatally injured and at least 20 being left permanently disabled.” The schools are currently busy with exams where after an exodus of people will start their holidays as the holiday season arrives. It is a very dangerous time on the road and drivers should take extreme care when driving. Let’s us hope that the accident rate will decrease this year. Remember, you are the first line of defence when driving!

“I felt her soft finger tracing a line along my back as she whispered loving words to me…I dreamt of being held, touched and loved.”
beter oor as tienduisend slim woorde. Een druk sê baie meer, troos veel dieper, as om te verklaar: “Die Here kom pluk altyd die mooiste blommetjies eerste vir Sy tuin.” Dis eenvoudig onwaar. Wat sou gebeur as ‘n man en vrou in ‘n wankelende
Wat sal gebeur as jy jou kinders vashou, of jou bejaarde ouer se hand vashou? Soos die Righteous Brothers sing: “O, my love, my darling, I’m hungry for your touch, a long, lonely time.” Doen dit.
Tannie Poppie se Lekker Tuisgemaakte Mosterd 3 eiers 125 ml asyn 1 blikkie (50g) mosterdpoeier 2,5 ml sout 1 blik (385g) kondensmelk 125 ml sonneblomolie Klits die eiers baie goed tot lig en skuimerig. Roer die asyn bietjie vir bietjie by. Meng die mosterdpoeier en

Prominent businessman takes over Aviation Junction Flying School Last week The Bulletin reported on Christoff Le Grange who has sold the Aviation Junction Flying School to Peter Nordin. The Bulletin’s journalist, Ané Prinsloo sat down with Peter and spoke about his future plans for the flying school. When Peter was in grade 10, he applied to attend RAU University to study Navigation. Unfortunately, 2 years after applying (in 2000) he received a letter stating that the Navigation degree was made redundant. After that curveball was thrown at him, he decided to go to England to work. Four years later Peter returned to South Africa and finished his studies in surveying. He finished his diploma and 2011 saw the birth of Peter Nordin Surveyors. His love and passion for aviation did not stop when his curveball was thrown at him. When drones started becoming a big thing, Peter imported one of the first fixed wing drones which he used for his surveying company. In 2016 Peter teamed up with Salaria and also bought shares in the company. In 2018 he bought the majority shares in Salaria and in 2019 he became the proud owner of Salaria. Peter has big plans for the flying school. He is already busy building new classroom facilities next to the school’s hangar and also owns all the aircraft the school utilises. His vision is to start a small charter company for people who would like to get away for a weekend to, for example, Sun City. The charter side of the flight school will be affordable and also give students who have their Commercial Pilot’s Licence an opportunity to build hours. With his background in drones and being able to see an opportunity in business, Peter is definitely the best man to take over from Christoff. We’ll just have
Peter flying with his family Lynette, Reghardt and Xander.

Eendracht Fed-up! Elects committee
Residents meeting in the testing station.
Water and faeces in the inspection pit
PROPERTIES EIENDOMME TO ADVERTISE CALL 017 631 1903 • 017 631 1845
Residents of Eendracht, in Leandra, have been plagued with water shortages, poor service delivery and general neglect from GMM. The community called a meeting on Thursday that was well attended by the residents. The group gathered in the testing station with no chairs nor any other facilities provided by GMM to host the meeting. An overwhelming stench of human faeces filled the testing station as the residents stood at the entrance of the building. The inspection pit had water and what appeared to be faeces, filling the bottom walkway. Dilapidated equipment that is no longer in use adorned the sides of the building. It is clear that the residents have had enough. The poor service delivery that they receive is clearly upsetting to the residents, tempers were kept in control as residents sought answers. One of the burning points was the sewage tanks. GMM hires a contractor to empty the sewerage pits but issues instructions (according to the contractor) to only remove 200 L of sewage from each tank before returning to Newcastle! It was decided that a steering

committee must be formed and pressure exerted on both the ward councillor, Cllr LM Mbonani and the Mayoral committee to address the problems of Eendracht. On 21 September 2017, Mbonani was tasked by the residents to “take up and immediately make work of our problems and demands which we have raised on numerous occasions and not received any positive feedback on.” A number of issues were raised in the letter (a copy is available on our Facebook page) and Mbonani promised to further their cause, according to the residents. DA Cllrs Mariaan Chamberlain, Banele Nkabinde and Encee van Huyssteen also attended the meeting. Mariaan told the group that she had never heard nor seen anything in Eendracht brought to council by Cllr LM Mbonani. This was confirmed by the other councillors. The steering committee being elected will now form an action plan and report back to the residents before commencing with the planned action. The meeting ended peacefully with a new resolve to have the problems of Eendracht addressed.

1 Peter 1:3-6: Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. Sport against crime tournament
On Saturday, 16 November, Mmadi’s Academy with Albany Bakery, Charl Cilliers SAPS and Siphiwamandla services came together to host a sport against crime tournament for the U/13 and U/19 boys. The main aim for this tournament is to educate kids about crime and show off their talent on the soccer field. The following teams took part in the tournament. U/13 - Mmadi’s Academy, Juventus, Sabelo Stars and Young Stars. U/19 - Mmadi’s Academy, Amagagasi FC, Cuevasco FC and Mahankeni FC. The tournament was a success thanks to the community of Charl Cilliers and neighbouring towns and our sponsors for that day who made everything possible for the kids. We would like to thank every team that joined us on Saturday and
also congratulate our U/13 champs, Young Stars, who were crowned and the runner ups were Sabelo Stars who took home the silver medals. We would like to send our congratulations to our best players who were selected on Saturday from our U/13 teams. This recognition brought such excitement to the kids when they were recognised among their peers. Our U/19 final game was postponed to 24 November due to the fact that it was late and we wanted a fair game. Our last two teams who will be going hand in hand will be Mmadi’s Academy FC and Amagagasi FC. We would like to say may the best team take the trophy home!
Sien julle volgende jaar!

Sasol Ladies' Cricket opens season with a win
Bianca Brummer
Brigitte Binneman: the Woman of the Match It was the first 35 over game for both Sasol Women and Highveld Women on Sunday, 17 November. Nerves were high as there were players who have never played before. Both Captains Terry-Lee and Nanette wanted to take advantage of the blue skies and bat first. Highveld won the toss and Sasol fielded first.
Sasol’s breakthrough came in the 7th over when Kleynhans bowled Highveld’s opening batsmen, Danika Pertz, catching her on the backfoot. Wickets kept falling and Highveld was bowled out in the 21st over for 96 runs with Kleynhans, Heydenreich and Scholtz taking two wickets a piece. Sasol openers, Brigitte Binneman and
Bianca Brummer went out playing confident strokes taking their team all the way to the win. Binneman played an explosive innings of 52 off 34 balls as Brummer anchored on the other side with 20 off 19 balls giving Sasol ladies a 10-wicket win. An extra 5 overs were played after the match was won by the Sasol ladies ensured that both
teams spirits were lifted and the day was ended in good sportmanship. “As the captain I am excited to see in form performances at the start of the season. We are facing Standerton on 1 December at Sasol Club and we are very excited to see where this season will take us,” said Terry-Lee Kleynhans. – Terry-Lee Kleynhans

Hoërskool Secunda hosts Mashie Golf Day On Friday, 15 November, Hoërskool Secunda hosted a Mashie Golf Day to raise funds for their rugby tour to Worcester next year. This will be a huge tour for the Hoërskool Secunda rugby teams as 6 teams from the north of the country and 6 teams from the south will be competing at HTS Drostdy. We have been informed that Jake White, former Springbok coach, is involved in the rugby programme at HTS Drostdy. The schools that will be
competing in the Noord Suid Derby will be: South: HTS Drostdy, HTS Daniel Pienaar, Kearsney College, Worcester Gimnasium, Hoërskool Tygerberg and New Orleans. From the North: Ben Vorster, Hoërskool Middelburg, Lichtenburg, Transvalia, Marais Viljoen and our very own Hoërskool Secunda. The Mashie, par 3 golf day allowed the players only to carry a wedge and a putter with them and every shot counted. The course was built on the
Fay Boardman teeing off from the 6th tee.
school fields and saw some great obstacles for the players to conquer. From the first tee the players had to tee off over the netball courses to reach the first hole. There was also a truck at hole 6 that the players had to tee off from with a man-built waterhole in front of the green. After the day in the sun everyone enjoyed a spitbraai and had a chance to network some more. This won’t be the last golf day of its kind. “We want to organise this every year. It is good fun
and also helps the school in funds for big tours like the one in Worcester. We would like to thank our main sponsors: Highveld Precision Engineering, Stoepstories, Albrunico, C & C Staal, Van der Walt en Faulha Biokinetika and Lungsani for their support and also all the players who played on Friday,” said Mr JJ Hennop. Keep an eye out for next year’s Mashie Golf Day and enjoy the day with the school for a good cause. – Ané Prinsloo

Dirt and Dust Enduro Rally Dirt and Dust! An apt name for the enduro race that was held at the Van der Merwe’s farm at Holfontein. Dust rose as 44 entrants raced against the clock on a 35km course. The race differed from the normal races. Normally the riders would charge off in a group and continue to race each other. The Enduro Race was done on rally
principles. 5 Rounds were completed. The first one was a practice run. The second was the time trial. This round also determined the position for the final three rounds. The best time would start first with 15 second intervals between the riders. The final three laps were raced as one long lap. This made for interesting viewing as the riders would catch up
and others fall back. The leader board shifted the whole time. In the end the winners were: Louw Pretorius, Kobus Jonck, Craig Gregory Top performer: George de la Rose. George rose in the ranks from about 20th to 4th. Quads - Clayton Botha Ladies winner - Leandri Oostuizen Without the efforts of the Van der
