The Umuzi Week of Festivals officially kicks off on Friday, 29 September. It promises to be bigger than ever with more shows, more sports and more action! Sport is one of the things that bring this rainbow nation together, hence the name for the sport section: Rainbow Sportfest. There will be road races, fun runs, cycling, wrestling, rugby, hockey, motocross, soccer, 4x4 tournament, aircraft navigation competition, the Lake Umuzi Regional Motor Rally, dirt bikes, the National Blackball Tournament and more. The festival is packed with sporting activities that everyone can enjoy as participants or spectators. Aquazone’s Springfest will also prove to be a winner with daily family games to participate in, there is a new slide called the Blue Mamba that just begs to be tried out, and the “lazy river” has been lengthened. Friday there is the popular 6-16 water party for under 16’s only where all the slides will be kept open till late. Parents and other over 16’s can only watch from the deck at Bosveld Lapa. The children will also be well catered for with Carnival Square’s “Play as long as you want” promotion, activities as well as Rocky Waters. Between 2 and 6 October the children will be entertained in the mornings with puppet shows, mime acts, clowns and fun as arranged by Toyville and

Planet Pawn. To top this of, a Merry-go-round will be available at the open area next to Proconics. Eish!! will be hosting the 3rd Octoberfest on their decks over all 10 days of the festival. Entrance to the Octoberfest is free thanks to Timber City and House of Tiles.

Workshop hosted for small tourism businesses during tourism month The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) together with Gert Sibande District Municipality and Govan Mbeki Local Municipality hosted a Tourism SMME Fair, exhibition and workshop in Bethal on 21 September. This forms part of a series of awareness campaigns and events that have been scheduled to celebrate tourism month in the province. “We are pleased to be partnering with the district and local municipalities in this initiative which adds value to our small tourism businesses. Our aim is to create awareness on the impact of tourism in our daily lives. This tourism fair is one of the platforms we create for small tourism businesses in the province to come together and learn about the latest trends in the sector and areas that needs improvement in promoting their businesses”, said Xolani Mthethwa, Head of Tourism at MTPA. The concept of the tourism fairs started a few years ago with the aim of contributing towards the development of the SMMEs in the tourism sector. The tourism fairs are usually hosted during tourism month when people are encouraged to support local businesses by travelling and visiting the less visited areas, hence the decision to host this event in Bethal. “The workshop afforded an opportunity for small tourism businesses to be coached on business. The speakers focused on business coaching, support provided by government to small businesses, and funding opportunities as well as issues relating to tourism grading services”, explained Mthethwa. “Tourism provides the much-needed

jobs and wealth. In our awareness campaigns, we continuously encourage the youth currently studying or that have completed their studies to explore numerous opportunities available in the tourism sector” commended Mthethwa. As we celebrate tourism month, we encourage communities to support local businesses and explore what they offer. Parks Weeks is an initiative by MTPA to encourage locals to travel to any of our 11 provincial nature reserves throughout the province. Entry into these nature reserves is free to all South African citizens as long as they produce their ID or drivers licence”, explained Mthethwa. This year’s World Tourism Day will be celebrated in Mpumalanga Province on September 27, at KaNyamazane Stadium in Mbombela. - Adele Smit

Sasol announces proposed new R21 billion B-BBEE ownership structure Sasol Limited has announced its proposed new Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) ownership structure, Sasol Khanyisa, which will be submitted for shareholder approval at the Sasol Limited AGM later this year. Sasol Khanyisa is intended to achieve effective direct and indirect B-BBEE ownership of at least 25% in Sasol South Africa, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sasol. Through two invitations eligible existing Sasol Inzalo Groups and Public shareholders will receive bonus Sasol BEE ordinary shares (SOLBE1), that trade on the BEE segment of the JSE, at no cost to them. These bonus SOLBE1 and additional SOLBE1 shares issued to shareholders are tradeable from the date of issue, realising upfront and immediate value creation for shareholders. “As a company proudly rooted in our South African heritage, we embrace transformation. We are committed to contributing meaningfully to sustainable transformation as we accelerate this journey across Sasol,” said Bongani Nqwababa, Joint President and Chief Executive Officer, Sasol Limited. “In designing Sasol Khanyisa, we included several key design principles that would enable our objectives – specifically, to ensure that the transaction will deliver long-term value and lead to sustainable ownership of Sasol by Black South African shareholders,” said Stephen Cornell, Joint President and Chief Executive Officer, Sasol Limited. Sasol Khanyisa is a key milestone in Sasol’s transformation journey. Sasol Inzalo, which was created in 2008, comes to an end in 2018. Eligible participants in Sasol Khanyisa will comprise Sasol’s qualifying employees, existing Sasol Inzalo Public and Groups shareholders, and existing Black Sasol shareholders that own shares listed on the empowerment segment of the JSE. When Sasol Inzalo ends next year, it is expected that there will be no distribution of Sasol shares to participants, given the closing Sasol Ordinary share price of R389 on 4 September 2017. Sasol South Africa is well placed to achieve at least 25% Black ownership, and a proportional share of the

dividend stream from Sasol South Africa will be used to repay the funding cost. “This means Sasol Khanyisa’s success is not dependent on Sasol Limited’s share price fluctuations. As no external funding will be used, there will be no cash outflows from Sasol,” added Nqwababa. At the end of the 10 year period and once the vendor funding has been settled, Sasol Khanyisa Public shares will be exchanged for SOLBE1 shares listed the empowerment segment of the JSE. This will lead to long-lasting, unencumbered ownership of Sasol

Limited by Black South Africans. Participants in the Sasol Khanyisa employee share ownership plan will receive a debt-free share grant of Sasol ordinary shares and Sasol shares listed on the empowerment segment of the JSE worth R100 000. These shares, subject to taxation, will become theirs to keep or sell at the end of a threeyear period, in 2021. Participating employees will also receive a pro rata portion of dividends received by the Sasol Khanyisa trust during the threeyear period. “To accelerate transformation, Sasol

Khanyisa has been designed to empower Black employee participants with ‘rights to shares’,” said Cornell. These rights to shares, to be held in a trust, will be exchanged for Sasol shares listed on the empowerment segment of the JSE at the end of a 10year period, after which employees will be able to freely trade these shares or retain them as Sasol shareholders. Sasol Khanyisa’s ownership structure will be subject to shareholder approval later this year. Read the full press statement on line at www.thebulletin.co.za.

National Shutdown looming Cosatu and the SA Communist Party (SACP), and their ANC allies will take to the streets on Wednesday as part of a national shutdown. Cosatu and SACP are united in a show of force against President Jacob Zuma. Ironically these parties were instrumental in placing Zuma in power. Previous calls for Zuma to step down fell on deaf ears. Recently Zuma outlived a vote of no confidence by the Democratic Alliance. Both parties said that their intention was to voice their opposition to state capture, corruption and job losses for which they blame Zuma’s government according to a report in the City Press. Recent meetings between the ANC and some of its 27 year-old alliance partners failed to sit, fuelling the frustrations of some of its alliance members to the point that there is a split threatening the alliance. Cosatu and SACP will also use the march to boost their campaign for Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa to become president. Cosatu have lost members over the past years and has a membership of only 1 868 193 as on 23 September (according to News24). The SACP believes that they can mobilise 250000 members for the march. The strike is a protected strike. Although the aim is to pile pressure

on Zuma to resign, it is unclear if it will have the desired effect with NUMSA not joining the federation. NUMSA was expelled in 2014 with 320000 members. Cosatu’s official press statement reads: “The preparations for the upcoming COSATU led National strike on the 27 September are in full swing and the workers are making it very clear that they are tired of State Capture and

Corruption. They are clear that these twin evils lead to economic decay and job losses. Workers are ready and willing to fight the immoral and criminal phenomenon of State Capture and the cancer of Corruption, which robs them of their livelihoods, steal their resources, causes job losses and perpetuate poverty” Actions in Mpumalanga are planned for Nelspruit and Emalahleni but splintergroups might have their own marches and rallies in Govan Mbeki.

National Agricultural Youth Show For the first time ever all recipients of provincial colours in Mpumalanga were together at one function. The National Agricultural Youth Show (Mpumalanga) held their honours function at Hoërskool Hoogenhout in Bethal on Thursday 21 September. All 47 recipients were present to receive their provincial colours. Headmasters of the various schools were present to hand out the jackets. Children from all over the province partake in this youth show. The SA Championships for Youth Show will be held in Bathurst from 1-4 October. Mpumalanga will be represented by the 47 children who received their colours. It takes a lot of preparation to get everything in order as livestock have to be transported to Bathurst. Chickens and doves cannot be transported due to the avian flu restrictions countrywide. Those participants will have to use props to show their skills. “Agricultural societies in South Africa identified the need to involve school children in the agricultural sector. The

National Agricultural Youth Society was founded in 1999. The primary aim of the Youth Society is to cultivate an affinity for agriculture among the youth, create opportunities for children to participate in extracurricular activities in agriculture, develop a range of skills and encourage teamwork.” (As stated on the website www.nays.co.za .) This is not aimed at agricultural schools but any child can participate. There are 15 sections that children can participate in namely: Horses, Cattle-Beef, Cattle-Milk,

Sheep-Wool, Sheep-Mutton, GoatMutton, Goat-Milk, Goat-Mohair, Pigs, Poultry, Pigeon-Racing, Pigeon-Fancy, Rabbits, Dairy products and Culinary art. These sections are further dived into

They get scored as follow: Knowledge 20%, Washing 15%, Preparation 15% and showmanship 50%. There are handbooks available on the NAYS webpage that gives guidance to what is expected in caring for the animals in preparation for the show.

Calledon Rally an Epic event All the drama, thrills and excitement normally associated with a rally were present at the National Rally Championship’s Caledon Rally on 22 and 23 September. The picturesque area also allowed for fast stages with some tricky corners. The lead changed hands a few times over the course of the race. Johnny Gemmel in a lime green Porsche that looked little out of place, was crowned overall winner with a 32sec lead over local lad AC Potgieter and co-driver Nico Swartz. Richard Leeke took 3rd. Guy Botterill was forced to retire on the opening with conrod failure, allowing Leeke to snatch the lead. At the end of day one, Leeke was clinging onto his lead. AC Potgieter overtook Leeke in the early stages of day two, only to lose the overall lead to Johnny Gemmel in the final stage of the rally. Potgieter and Swartz took their first class (R2 class) win making him the fourth class winner in 6 events. Leeke and Henry Kohne ended second. The battle for the 2017 Championship is a close race between Guy Botterill/ Simon Vacy-Lyle and Richard Leeke / Henry Kohne. It is all down to the last

rally, whomever wins the last event between these two teams will be crown 2017 Champions. Lee Rose and Elvene Coetzee, (who won the Secunda Rally) proved that

classic cars still belong in the rally world. They were crowned the First South African National Classic Rally Champions in their Ford Escort BDG. The next National rally is on the 20/21

October near Carnival City, Boksburg. The next regional rally is here on 30 September as part of the Umuzi Week of Festivals, 200m past the Graceland turnoff.

Die ritte word genoem die: Battle of the Youngsters, Battle of the Ladies and also the Battle of the Giants. Vanjaar se Battle of the Giants was deur Roodt van Zyl van Noord Wes provinsie gewen met ‘n tyd van 03;43;57 oor ‘n aftand van 80km. Roodt het ook die “Bes voorbereide perd” by die swaar gewigte geqwen asook “Best of the Best”

Early handling errors cost Sasol points as Vereeniging capitalized, but Sasol eventually found their rhythm and the errors became few and far in between. A professional foul just before halftime saw Sasol receiving a yellow card and they had to play with 14

men for a while. Sasol’s defenses were seriously tested and Vereeniging managed to breach it on a few occasions resulting in 5 tries. The backline of Sasol was out to play an attacking game from the start. They attacked the opponent’s backline with vigor and the cracks started to show. Breaks by Sasol’s backline were created between Vereeniging’s flyhalf and centers that

resulted in tries for Sasol. Once the backline had the ball, they swung it wide and on occasion ran around Vereeniging’s backline for further points. The speedsters from Sasol kept breaking through the lines. Sasol scored 7 tries in the end. A point of concern for Sasol’s coaches must be the subdued performance by the forwards in the scrums and lineouts, although the scrum improved after halftime. A number of own lineouts were lost to Vereeniging and this week should see some serious scrum and lineout time. The overall performance of the Sasol Hydra-Arc team was one that is hungry for a win. The team played as a team that is well oiled when on the go, as well as a disciplined team and as a team that is proud to play together for their club. Well done Sasol Hydra-Arc rugby! The next game is on Saturday here at Sasol recreation club. Kickoff is expected to be at 15:00.
