Cancer is gone since It’s Time
Neels Minnie was diagnosed with Lymphoma cancer about a year and a half ago and had to take a handful of chemo tablets daily. Today Neels is clear of cancer and he believes God has healed him at the It’s Time event hosted by evangelist Angus Buchan on a farm outside Bloemfontein on 22 April. When Neels was diagnosed with cancer, the doctor told him there was no cure for this type of cancer. Neels started with the chemo tablets, but his body presented an allergic reaction to the tablets. He had sores on his back and hands as a result. He went to see the doctor a week before the It’s Time event and his doctor told him he cannot go to the It’s Time event as his body might go into an epileptic shock and he could die. His doctor wanted to admit him to hospital immediately. Instead of going to hospital, Neels told his doctor: “Sorry doctor, but with all respect, I am going to Angus Buchan’s event. Nothing will stop me from going.” At the event, Angus asked people with heart, blood pressure and stress problems to stand up and Neels stood up. Angus continued to pray for those people and then asked people with cancer to stand up and again Neels stood up and Angus continued to pray
for people with cancer. “Oom Angus said if you believe, throw away all your medicine and stop your chemo, which I did the same day,” said Neels. His wife, Joan, went with him to the It’s Time event. She supported him when he decided to stop his chemo and medication. The allergic reaction on Neels’ skin disappeared. The Monday back at work at Sasol where Neels works as a project manager, a woman approached him and asked if she could touch his hands and anointed him with myrrh oil. “She said God appeared to her during the night and told her He had a task for her. “She had to come to me and tell me that God had seen my suffering and it is over. “He is going to heal me and He will restore me completely to my former self. “Obviously, I cried like a baby,” said Neels. His next doctor’s appointment was only on 18 May. The doctor did tests and then confirmed that Neels was completely healed. The test results were within the standard norms. “I just want to praise and bring glory to my heavenly Father and thank Him from the bottom of my heart for healing me.” - Jana Oosthuizen

No bail for briber of cop Prince Chukwabata (36) was denied bail in the Secunda Magistrate Court on Thursday, 25 May, where he appeared on a charge of corruption stemming from allegedly bribing a police officer. The suspect was arrested by members of Secunda DPCI and SANEB during an undercover operation conducted after he allegedly sent an SMS to a police
officer, offering him a R5000 bribe so that the officer could release a vehicle belonging to the suspect’s brother. The vehicle, an Audi A4, was seized when its owner was arrested on a separate matter. Chukwabata was nabbed shortly after handing over the R5 000 bribe money to the police officer. He will be in the dock again on 1 June following the postponement of his case.

Group extorts Secunda man in Vereeniging The day when Secunda resident André Prinsloo posted an online advertisement to sell his vehicle, he could not even have fathomed this would lead to being extorted and held hostage for an entire day. André recently used the web service OLX to advertise the vehicle he wanted to sell. When a potential buyer claiming to hail from Namibia said he did not have transport to come to Secunda, André agreed to drive his vehicle to Vereeniging on Thursday, 18 May to meet with the prospective buyer called
George. George made a cash offer to buy the vehicle. “I met George at a KFC. He asked me to drive him a few blocks to where he will meet someone who owes him money,” said André. “Suddenly a second man climbed into my car and exchanged something with George. The two began to argue, where after the man alighted from the back seat. George instructed André to drive around for a while. The second man eventually phoned and told André and George to meet him 10km outside of Vereeniging.
Spur invests in community The Riekert family has been owning the franchise restaurant, Spur in Secunda for about a year and a half now. They moved from Pretoria to Secunda in December in 2015 and are now part of the Secunda community. Lizelle, and her children, Armand and Anzel, worked themselves up from humble beginnings to where they are today. The Riekert family and Morné Brown are the co-owners of Oregon Spur in Secunda Mall. Armand started working as a waiter at Denver Spur in Pretoria when he was 17. Lizelle and Anzel have also been working as managers at Denver Spur for many years. Armand recalls walking to work in Pretoria while he was working at Spur as a waiter. Morné Brown and his partners helped Armand to climb the ranks from waiter to a manager, to being second in charge at the restaurant to eventually ending up in the position of being completely in charge of the Denver Spur. The Riekert family believes in giving back to the community and Spur has invested in several community projects and they will always try to the best of their ability to help organisations and individuals who want to raise money or host special evenings and events at Spur to raise money. They have been involved in projects at the Holfontein informal settlement and handed out food at Holfontein. Little Paws Big Hearts, the Highveld Ridge SPCA, and Giving Hearts are only a few organisations who have benefitted from fund raising evenings at Spur. They also give discounts to groups of
senior citizens and schools when they visit Spur. They sponsor the Man of the Match at Sasol Rugby Club and they have supported baby Luke who was born too early and is still in hospital since February. “We as a family are passionate about our customers and will always go the extra mile to give them the best service,” said Armand. “This is not a job for us, it is our passion. “Oregon Spur is our lives, we love what we do and we live for our customers.” The recent video clip of two clients fighting in a Spur in Johannesburg has gone viral as did Spur’s response. “People do not always realise that we did not have a say in how that incident was handled,” said Armand. “Our managers are always visible at the front or in the kitchen, making sure everything is in order,” said Armand. He invites anyone to call him or Lizelle if they have a problem with Oregon Spur in Secunda and he said anyone is welcome to see them. “Spur has always had an open-door policy and an open-kitchen. “We set high standards for ourselves and we still work according to those standards. The Riekert family has been part of the Spur group for 11 years now. Oregon Spur recently obtained a new rib cooker. They now have a brand new recipe for ribs and invite everyone to try their ribs at a special rate. This special will last until the end of June. Their plans on the long run is to continue investing in the community with numerous projects. Contact Oregon Spur at 017 634 3939 or visit them in Secunda Mall. You can also contact Armand at 076 411 0847 or Lizelle at 072 985 1023.
The Riekert family, Armand, Anzel and Lizelle have been in this industry for 11 years.
“I wanted to remain in the car, but George insisted I go with because the guy was going to hand over R1.4 million and I must get my R90 000 that he owed me for buying my vehicle,” said André. As soon as André entered the house, the man placed a brown envelope on the table. “I assumed it must have been the merchandise they spoke of earlier which I suspect were diamonds.” André told George he no longer wanted to sell his car and wanted to leave. “Just as I was getting up to leave, five men stormed into the house. One flashed a badge and said they were the police. “They opened up the brown envelope and they said that it was diamonds inside the envelope. “They searched me and accused me of being involved in the deal and I said the diamonds were not mine, but they searched me. They gave me two options: I can either be arrested and end up in jail for 15 years, or I can pay R50 000 to make the case disappear. “When I told them that I do not have that kind of money, I was told “all white people have money or family with money.” The only person André could think of at that time, was his older brother, Corné. “I was forced to set the phone on speaker phone when I called Corné. “I could only tell him I had a deal to
buy a brand-new car for R50 000 and urgently needed the money. “I asked him to trust me after which he vowed to deposit the money as soon as he gets off work. “Corné later told me he realised then something was up.” While André was waiting for the money, he sat and prayed. “One of the men asked if I was praying and if I was a born again Christian. “I said yes and that I was ashamed to be in this situation because I put myself here.” The gang finally set André free after they received confirmation that the money had been paid into their account. They also took his wallet. One of his captors phoned André the following day, enquiring if he arrived sefely home. - Jana Oosthuizen

Shirley Coetzee (53) has been a caregiver and volunteer worker at Cansa for years. She recently started a day care centre for sick, elderly and disabled people in Secunda. She saw a need in Secunda where working people do not have the time to take care of their loved ones when they are old or sick. “I want to make things easier for the families of the sick and elderly,” said Shirley. Although Shirley did not finish her studies in becoming a nurse, it has always been something that is close to her heart and thus she decided to go into the profession of caregiver. She said the highlight of her career as a caregiver is when someone dies and she knows that person met the Lord before he died. However, the saddest part of Shirley’s job is when she knows a patient has not given his life to the Lord, and also when the family of the patient fights.
Apart from being a caregiver, Shirley enjoys helping out at one of the NG Goedehoop Church’s projects by giving food to homeless people in the CBD on a weekly basis. In her free time Shirley enjoys reading and cooking. At her day care centre, Shirley provides not only full day care, but also transportation to doctor’s appointments, dentist appointments and the pharmacy, breakfast and lunch. They also do fun things with the people they take care of such as sewing and knitting. Shirley thanked the NG Goedehoop Church where she has been working for the past two years, the NG Oos Church and the Rondekerk for always supporting and helping Cansa. Shirley has two trained and experienced care workers at the day care centre, Wendy Wrigley and Amelia Rammole. For more information, contact Shirley at 076 577 1165.

They believe Casey will be healed The mere fact that Casey Els (9) is still alive today, is a miracle. She was diagnosed with and immune deficiency disease at the age of 1 when a vaccination wound did not heal. She was later diagnosed with TB meningitis, a life-threatening condition that can kill a patient within a few days. Although Casey survived, she already underwent five major brain operations by the age of three. She still walked and talked for a while, but she had her off days when she was completely paralysed, only to be walking again a few days later. Casey was in and out of hospitals for years and eventually doctors told her parents Ockie and Cheryl Els there is nothing they can do for her. She eventually stopped walking and talking. It was during this difficult time in their lives that Ockie and Cheryl met the Lord and got to know Him. In 2013 Casey’s condition worsened and she wouldn’t stop getting fits. The doctor said there was nothing more they could do to prevent the seizures and predicted that her organs will stop functioning. “When doctors could do no more for our little girl, we had to lay her down at the Lord’s feet and place all our trust in Him,” said Cheryl. Today, Casey is blind and she cannot walk or talk, but her parents consider her the biggest blessing in their lives. “We see the Lord in Casey’s life every day,” said Ockie. The couple found a new neurosurgeon willing to treat Casey. He did scan the left side of Casey’s brain and discovered Casey has been living with a blocked shunt for three years. Usually people with a blocked shunt die within a few hours. The doctor could not explain why Casey was still alive after all this time. He replaced the shunt in Casey’s brain, but had no hope that Casey will ever

Casey’s grandmother takes care of her during the day. Her brother, Ockie junior (6) helps his parents with Casey and they have a close bond. The Els family thanked their heavenly Father for Casey and for brining so many people on her path spiritually and physically. The Els couple also thanked Dr Karl, all the other doctors, the staff at Mediclinic Highveld and Unitas, Gisela van Velze, everyone helping with Casey’s rehabilitation and all who have been praying for them.

South Africa celebrates Blood Donor Month in June. In their celebration of this event, the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) want to acknowledge the ordinary South Africans who selflessly give the gift of life to strangers. “South Africa is well acquainted with heroes. Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu, Nkosi Johnson, Natalie du Toit – they are widely feted and acknowledged. But there are scores of other unacknowledged heroes in South Africa, the thousands of ordinary men and women who regularly donate blood, selflessly and without expectation of a reward or recognition,” says Silungile Mlambo, national marketing manager for the SANBS. “Blood Donor Month, and World Blood Donor Day, which is celebrated globally on 14 June, is for them. It gives us the opportunity to acknowledge their gift and to say thank you. Thank you for saving the life of that mother, thank you for saving the life of that car accident victim, thank you for saving the life of that premature baby. Thank you for giving them a lifetime of memories. Your selflessness is not unrecognised, nor will it ever be forgotten.” Mlambo says the theme for World Blood Donor Day 2017 is blood donation in emergencies. While the global campaign is aimed at helping people in emergency situations, such as natural disasters and trauma situations, Mlambo says incidents of trauma make up only a fraction of the demand for blood in South Africa. “By far the greatest proportion of blood is required in other situations, such as in childbirth and for cancer patients. In South Africa blood shortages occur most often during school holidays and they are predominantly caused by lower collections of blood as a result of schools and universities closing and the demand staying consistent,” says Mlambo.
