There is hope for SA “Don’t give up hope for South Africa!” These are the words of Athol Trollip, Federal Chairperson of the Democratic Alliance. Athol Trollip is well known within political circles and most probably became a household name when he became the mayor of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality. Athol was instrumental in bringing major changes to the municipality before his coalition partners decided to move over to the ANC. Athol was the guest speaker at a DA public meeting held at Marietjie School on Friday, 28 April. His speech was closely followed by the people who gathered as he spoke about corruption and how the ANC is trying to capture all state enterprises. “If a politician comes to talk to you and he does not talk about unemployment and crime,” Athol said in his opening statement, “then they are not serious. Then they are not worth voting for.” “The greatest challenge in this country is that over 10 million people are unemployed and every second young person is unemployed.” Said Athol “and unless we deal with that (unemployment) we will not be able to deal with crime and we would eventually face a revolution and that we don’t want.” Athol quoted a report: “South Africa’s decline had been the worst of conflictfree nations in the world. This is due to the Zuma era.” This was from a report by Unomix. The figures are staggering. South Africa declined from position 31 in 2006 to number 88 in 2018 out of 178 countries being measured. He continued: “So if you add conflict to this (of the above-mentioned revolution) it will make the hell that some of the youth is going through at the moment seem like a picnic. “This recipe for the revolution that we are faced within SA is a direct legacy of nine wasted years. That is what Cyril Ramaphosa called the Zuma administration. Ace Magashule and DD Mabuza argued with him and said there weren’t (wasted), but let me tell you this: The ten years that DD Mabuza has been the premier of this province (Mpumalanga) are a legacy of ten wasted years, just like Jacob Zuma’s.”

Athol said. “State capture is by design of the ANC policies, they have a policy in the National Democratic Revolution document, and the objective there is stated in black and white, and it is the ANC’s objective to take over all levers of state.” Said Athol, “this is done through cadre deployment and DD Mabuza is the head of the Cadre Deployment Committee.” Athol launched a scathing attack on President Cyril Ramaphosa and the ANC lead government highlighting a number of issues that cost the country dearly. “The person (Cyril Ramaphosa) that appointed Brian Molefe to Transnet, who stole it blind, after the Agrizzi and Bosassa exposures, watch what is happening at Transnet. They stole hundreds of billions of Rand. Cyril Ramaphosa then deployed the same Brian Molefe to Eskom.” Athol said in his speech, “Cyril Ramaphosa deployed Dudu Myeni, Jacob Zuma’s girlfriend, to South African Airways and kept her there. Despite the fact that she stole that institution blind and Hlaudi Motsoeneng (SABC 2011-2013) was deployed by Cyril Ramaphosa.” The question voters should ask on the 8th of May is: “Is this government looking after me? And the answer is no. So, I would never vote for them.” “We have lost our position as the greatest economy in Africa and the ANC must take responsibility for that. It is not as if we are growing and trying to be the greatest economy, we were the greatest economy, the biggest economy and the most successful economy. Now we are second to Nigeria and we are slipping.” “The three people that are tasked with South Africa’s economy is Rob Davies, Ebrahim Patel and Pravin Gordan, all ANC members but also communists. In 1989 the Berlin wall came down and the whole world acknowledged that socialism and communism is a failed philosophy but in South Africa, we still want to make it work. The ANC said 5 years ago that the economy is going to grow through state lead infrastructure growth, surely if that was the case, we would have built a big dam, bridge or even

a university. In twenty years, the government is only busy with two hospitals. In the Western Cape, the DA-led government build 4 hospitals in five years!” “The Western Cape under the DA leadership is the only province with a growing economy, the lowest unemployment rate in South Africa, 19% lower than the rest of the country. The DA has created more jobs in the Western Cape than the other eight provinces put together over the last year. Why not use this model throughout the country?” Asked Athol, “What does the ANC do? They send Ace Magashule to Venezuela to learn some best practice. In the most dysfunctional country in the world, that is where the ANC goes to learn.” The issue of transactional sex was also discussed in detail. The DA wants transactional sex to be declared a corrupt activity and corruption by administrators and politicians should be punishable with 15 years’ incarceration. The hot topic of Eskom was also raised.

“Cyril Ramaphosa was appointed as the chairman of a special cabinet committee in 2014 by Jacob Zuma, to sort out Eskom. After a year, in June 2015, in parliament, Cyril said: I have been at Eskom for a year and I have seen some great things and you can look forward to great things coming out of Eskom. Two years later Jacob Zuma said that there will never be load shedding again. In February this year, during the worst load shedding in the history of South Africa, DD Mabuza said; The reason we are having load shedding is because our economy is growing too fast!” Athol Trollip addressed the issue of the other parties targeting the DA. Some of the party posters were discussed. In particular, the FF+ poster that says “Slaan Terug”. He said some people asked with what? One person said “and who do they want to hit back?” “Don’t give up hope for South Africa, this country needs us now more than ever before,” Athol said in his final words.

Mob justice in Mpumalanga highlights urgent need for honest and professional policing The South African Police Service’s (SAPS) slow response rate in rural areas has once again led to a case of mob justice where the community of Mganduzweni near White River took it upon themselves to punish alleged killers of two children. According to reports, the two men who were beaten and then burned to death, they confessed to angry community members that they had killed two siblings aged 5 and 6. One of the suspects is the pastor of a local church. Their homes were also burned. The two children went missing on Tuesday last week and they were

found dead on Wednesday after the community formed a search party. Had the police acted swiftly, the two young children could still have been alive today. Without honest and professional policing, criminals will continue to torment residents of Mpumalanga and even force them to take the law into their own hands. The killing of these suspects clearly shows that public’s confidence in the criminal justice system has reached an all-time low and people don’t trust the police

snippets Suspect sought for ignoring court order The Hawks’ are seeking the assistance of the public in locating Dr Levy Choene Makgatho (39) for failure to comply with a court order after conviction. It is alleged that in 2012 the accused who was employed as a qualified Medical Doctor was working in one of the hospitals around Mpumalanga. He opened two surgeries whereby he employed foreign nationals without legitimate qualifications. The accused was just collecting money which was claimed from different medical aid schemes. to protect them. Communities often feel neglected by the police in protecting their families and homes. It is clear that the police and the ANC-led government crimereduction strategies are ineffective. South Africa deserves a government that is committed to tackling crime head on. The DA strongly believes that policing decisions should be made at provincial and local levels. There is only one party that can be this government. There is only one party with both proven track record

where it governs and a bold plan to keep South Africans safe in their homes and on the streets and that party is the DA. The DA’s Manifesto for Change sets out plans for honest and professional policing, which amongst other things, means well trained police and responsive. for fraud after his underhand dealings were uncovered. On the 18 October 2017, the accused was found guilty and convicted by the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate Court. He was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment or a fine of R10 000.00 which sentence is wholly suspended for a period of five years on condition that the accused pays by way of a compensatory fine of an amount of R185 000.00 to Bonitas Medical aid scheme directly at an amount of R7 000.00 per month starting from 31 January 2018. No payment has been received to date according to Bonitas Medical fund and on 30 November 2018, the Court issued an order for Dr Levy Choene’s apprehension. It is believed that the accused last residential address was in Lebanon in Mabopane. Anyone with information which can assist in solving the matter can contact the Investigation Officer Warrant Officer Matsobane France Aphane on 082 303 9759 and all information provided will be kept in strictest confidence.

Don’t forget to make your mark With the upcoming elections around the corner, there is a lot of insecurity as to what will happen. Who will win the election and will rate payers’ hard-earned money again be wasted on another strategic session like the recent Badplaas Strategic Planning Session? This year’s election also sees the longest ballot in South African history with 49 registered parties, 19 more than in 2014, contesting for the top spot. This makes it very difficult for voters to choose whom to vote for. We are only one week away from voting day, 8 May, and most people still struggle with making up their minds. The IEC, as with every previous election, promises a fair election. This year will be no different. The IEC continued with the draw to determine the first party on the ballot paper with all parties then following in alphabetical order, but with some parties’ names that could be confused, the IEC had two additional draws this year. These two draws were to ensure that there was no confusion for the voters and worked as follows: The first draw was to separate parties that have similarities in their names, acronyms and logos e.g. The African Independent Congress (AIC), The African National Congress (ANC) and The African People’s Convention (APC). These parties are also consecutive on the ballot. It was decided and agreed upon that the party that drew the highest number would stay in alphabetical order on the ballot paper. The party that drew the smallest number would fall to the end of the ballot under the letter “A” and the party that drew the second highest number would be in the middle of the ballot under the letter “A”. The African Independent Congress (AIC) drew the highest

number (position on the ballot paper: between the African Democratic Change and African Renaissance Unity parties), The African People’s Convention (APC) drew the smallest number and The African National Congress (ANC) drew the second highest number and therefore lost its position in the alphabetical order and was placed in the middle of the list of parties starting with the letter “A”. The second draw was to select the party that will be at the top of the ballot. This draw was won by The African Security Congress (ASC). These draws took place on 20 March at Gallagher Estate. It is your constitutional right to vote. Use your vote to exercise your right and make your voice heard! The parties that will contest the national elections (in alphabetical order) are: 1. AFRICAN CHRISTIAN DEMOCRATIC PARTY 2. AFRICAN CONGRESS OF DEMOCRATS 3. AFRICAN CONTENT MOVEMENT 4. AFRICAN COVENANT 5. AFRICAN DEMOCRATIC CHANGE 6. AFRICAN INDEPENDENT CONGRESS 7. My banksaldo het boonop nog ‘n minus vooraan.)

So moet dit klink as jy in die hemel aankom.

Ek is oor niks spyt nie. Nie die goed of die sleg nie.

Clay Delport is an 11-year-old artist in the making Clay started drawing and experimenting with art around the age of 4 when he was still in kindergarten. As we sat down and he started to talk about his art, his blue eyes lit up, his back straightened and he started to explain. Maybe for someone that understands art it would be easy to understand what he explained but, when I stopped him and asked questions, he answered them with confidence and no hesitation. He talked about rotation, translation and reflection. Rotation is to turn, translation is to slide and reflection is to flip, collectively this is called transformation. When asked about his latest

Silver award he received in Nelspruit in a Curro schools internal competition, he blushes. Clay’s mother, an art teacher, printed him a self portrait of Vincent van Gogh and he drew and painted it himself on a new canvas. The only help Clay received from his mother was advice on detail and texture. His next big venture will be the Eisteddfod. Clay has a lot of confidence in his work and is learning something new each day. Clay has a few artists he looks up to, van Gogh, M.C. Eshcer just to name a few and we hope to see him excel in the future! “He who wonders discovers that this in itself is wonder.” – M. C. Eshcer – Ané Prinsloo

Animal cruelty is rising in our midst Animal cruelty has and will always be a very sensitive topic. Animal cruelty is also largely unreported in most cases. With so many pro-animal organisations it is difficult to decide

which one to support and which one not to. Also, with a lot of people raising their opinions, from one extreme to the other, what is seen as animal cruelty is not true for another.

Stevens et al (2013) gave a report of one USA study involving women in a domestic violence shelter which indicated that 71% of the women with pets reported that their partner had threatened, hurt or killed their pet. They further found that between 18% and 48% of battered women have delayed their decision to leave their abuser or have returned to their abuser out of fear for the welfare of their pets or livestock. An extensive 2009 study indicated that 62.2% of individuals who had committed violent acts of animal cruelty had been exposed to, or were victims of, family violence themselves. Thus, research has found that children who abuse animals come from violent homes. They do not know how to react or act with violence as this is what they are used to and see happening around them. This is one of the extremes. Another extreme is that some people stop eating any animal products. They are called vegans. Vegans do not eat foods that come from animals, including meat, fish and shellfish, dairy, eggs and honey. They can eat all plant foods, including cereals (such as oats, wheat or corn); pulses (such as peas, beans, lentils and soya beans), all vegetables, fruits,

mushrooms, nuts and seeds, algae, herbs and spices and products made from any of these foods. Veganism is a lifestyle choice. For animal cruelty to stop one must be conscious of your pet’s dependence on your nurturing, care and love. Animals are, for most people their children and like children they need love, shelter and a walk around the park. Do what you can to alleviate the suffering of animals, report cruelty and support animal shelters. We all have a responsibility to teach our children kindness to people and animals alike as some people’s pets are their children. “When humans act with cruelty, we characterise them as animals, yet the only animal that displays cruelty is humanity.” Anthony Douglas Williams – Inside the Divine Pattern – Ané Prinsloo

Daarom is dagkaartjies as ‘n

How to prepare for a career in the 4th Industrial Revolution

The world is changing fast - faster than ever before. Even jobs that first emerged barely a generation ago are no longer around. Today changes are monumental job market: by 2022 over 75 million jobs will have disappeared and replaced by 133 million new types of jobs (WEF, 2018). This is because of the 4th Industrial Revolution, which refers to how high-level technologies are enhancing our world. It’s a future that could have driverless cars, drone deliveries and shops run by artificial intelligence. That’s why so many jobs will disappear and new ones will be created. This can make students today anxious about their tertiary education choices. What guarantee do they have that their pick will be a good one for the future? Here are four tips that will help cover those bases and guide you to the best options: Get into STEM: In the future STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) will be a part of everything, because it is the foundation of the 4th Industrial Revolution. That doesn’t mean you need a PhD in science to play a part. STEM can however help you see where you can do the most with your abilities and interests. STEM actually covers an enormous number of careers that aren’t in the ‘classic’ brackets of their names. For example, a designer of visual

elements for an application is still part of the technology world. Visit STEM seminars and speak to people in careers you’re considering about STEM to discover more. Soft skills are the top skills: Machines can do many wonderful things, but they are not much good at creativity, empathy and a host of other human attributes that makes each of us unique. This is popularly called EQ or soft skills. EQ will be very important for future jobs. Working with others, managing disagreements, inspiring co-workers and collaborating for better results are benchmarks that matter more every day. There are many books and online resources about soft skills, so start there. An integrated and supportive learning environment can also help develop these skills. Discipline: The need to clock in at nine and leave work at five is disappearing fast. It’s being replaced by agile workplaces where results, not being seen at your desk, are the measure of productivity. We can now be connected nearly anywhere and use phone-sized computers in our hands that are more powerful. Those are all ingredients of the 4th industrial revolution. They create new freedom for workers, but you need to know how to self-motivate and apply discipline. This is even more important if you want to work for yourself. Anyone can learn such skills

by setting goals and working to meet them. Making a choice for a future career isn’t easy, but once you’ve decided, Sasol can help. To support the growth of STEM skills in South Africa, Sasol offers bursaries for students pursuing B Eng or BSc Eng in various engineering disciplines, BSc in Chemistry and Accounting (CA route),

or Instrumentation, Mining Survey and Mechanical or Electrical Engineering at a University of Technology. Applications for the Sasol Corporate Bursary Programme close at the end of April. Visit www.sasolbursaries.com to find out more about applications and start shaping an exciting career for the future. - By Monica Luwes, Manager of Graduate Centre at Sasol.

Wynand du Toit, the name tends to ring a bell somewhere. The older generation of men will be the first to respond with, “yes man, he is that recce that was caught in Angola during the border war.” It was a big blow to the troops to think that one of their own was caught. Wynand du Toit was born in 1958 and grew up on a wheat farm in the Western Cape. He joined the military on a permanent basis in 1977. After 082 461 3821

obtaining his B. Mil degree (Bachelor’s degree in Military Science), he successfully underwent Special Forces selection and training. He became a seaborne operator at 4 Reconnaissance Regiment at Langebaan in the Cape from where he partook in several operations until he was captured during a raid on the oil-rich enclave of Cabinda, Angola. After spending twoand-a-half years in solitary confinement in an Angolan prison, he was released during an elaborate prisoner swop in Maputo, Mozambique. He retired from the military at age 31 with the rank of Lieutenant- Colonel. He excelled as a public and motivational speaker, started farming operations in South Africa, Namibia and Angola while conducting various other projects such as Transportation to Angola, Security Services and commercial construction. His stint as an Executive Outcomes mercenary in Angola after the end of the border war, served him well to pick up his ties and connections with his previous opponents and captors. He served as Chairman of the Kalkplato Farmers Association in Namibia, represented them as a Labour delegate at the Namibian Farmers Union. He

was a member of the Gauteng Master Builders Association and became the Vice-President of Congo Agriculture in the outset of the farming expedition in the Republic of the Congo. He is currently farming part time on his farm Belle Terre, in the Republic of the Congo (Brazzaville). It was during this period of time that he had decided to start writing his life story in two books, called Judas Goat and Josefskleed. This true-life drama was followed by three more wartime fiction books. His books are available in Afrikaans and English. He is currently writing full time whenever he is not engaged in any farm activities in the Congo. His program is furthermore filled with public appearances and motivational addresses. Wynand was decorated several times and received the National Order of Merit of the Republic of the Congo in February 2014. Wynand started by explaining about the books that he wrote and then moved onto some of the operations that he undertook ending with the one during which he was captured. He also used the opportunity to tell people about his 2,5 years in solitary confinement. Wynand instilled hope into the listeners. Thank you Wynand for sharing a horrid experience with the veterans. One lucky reader will stand the chance to win one of his books. Just answer the following question on our Facebook and Instagram pages, like our pages and share the question: When was Captain Wynand du Toit captured?

Ponder Think Marketing donates to orphanage Zukiso Mkutshwa, a 27-year-old from Embalenhle, the CEO of Ponder Think Marketing, won a Sasol competition and donated it to local charity organisation. “My company did community service-based work on Mandela Day in 2018 for our 67 minutes. My team and I went to 3 local schools, Shapeve Primary School, Mmabana Day Care and Kiriatswane Highschool on Mandela Day to help out wherever we could.” The Bulletin spoke to Zukiso and he had the following to say: “I saw the Sasol Mandela Day competition the following day on Twitter, on the 19 July 2018 where I stood a chance of winning R10 000 cash to donate to any charity that is closest to my heart and I entered it. Entering was very easy because all I had to do was upload images of what my Mandela Day was like using two hashtags and tagging the Sasol team on Twitter. I then received a call on the 24 November congratulating me on winning, I was very excited about the good news, I posted the news on Ponder Think Marketing Facebook page calling on our followers to help us make the choice by submitting names of charity organisations that they felt were deserving of the prize money and out of 35 entries we picked one, “Life Upon Paradise Orphanage Care in ext. 14 Embalenhle” as our winner. The cheque handover ceremony was held at the Orphanage Centre on the 26 November 2018 at 10am. The Sandton sales and marketing team from Sasol was also there for the handover ceremony. The kids sang for us and also performed a short funny story which show cased their talents despite all their misfortune and circumstances which was very inspiring.” The Bulletin would like to commend Zukiso on this wonderful gesture. It is not often that jewels such as Zukiso are found.

of encouragement from the spectators as the entrants battled through the different courses. The day was very well organised and everybody enjoyed themselves thoroughly. This regional qualifier was open only to BMW GS Adventure bikes

Rally of SA: done and dusted The Rally of SA is done and dusted. The rally saw a very low number of entrants but did not lack any action. A number of cars and teams suffered some setbacks that messed with the end results. Local (Secunda) R2N team AC Potgieter and Armand du Toit suffered a broken shock on the first day and they ended up way down on the roster. Team Luné Strydom and Rikus Fourie did not finish the race with one last lap to finish. Team Luné was driving a Subaru Impreza. The other Subaru Impreza driven by Rory Eland and Robbie Coetzee suffered an unthinkable fate when they flipped their car on the second stage. Driver Hergen Frekken and Navigator Pierre Arries in their Toyota Etios took overall first place. Guy Botteril and Simon Vacy-Lyle finished first in their class but only managed 3rd place overall.Team Natie Booysen and Johan Smit finished first in the classic division in their Yellow Ford Escourt. The Bulletin asked them for a short

report on the race and this is what they wrote: “@teamnatie #66 Natie and Johan entered the Rally of SA last week in the Sabie Nelspruit area “Old Sasol rally” this rally is also forms part of the Africa rally championship. We started with the recce run Thursday morning at 7am in Sabie. Recce went very well and some changes on the pace notes was needed. Due to the good rains one stage had to be shortened the rest of the recce went well and roads looked well prepared and not too much muddy patches. Friday 10am the Rally of SA started in Sabie town center with a ceremonial start. #66 butterflies in the stomach we started the stage 1 Olifantsgeraamte the first 7km all went as planned then the day changed dramatically as the clutch started slipping. At service we worked on the clutch nothing could be found wrong. Then in stage 2 the clutch was little better but still slipped, stage 2 was re-

run of stage 1, time improved and we did stage 3 directly after 2 no service, we had a flat wheel close to the stage end and had to do 1.5km on the flat wheel time lost again We are now in the rally rhythm, compensating for the clutch slipping, just 8km into stage 5 we had another flat wheel a bit of a downer as I didn’t hit anything. The rally started going better, no more flat wheel in the following stage… then we did the famous night time Sabie town tar stage we had a great run crowd on their feet cheering on #66. Day one done car #66 in Parc ferme. Saturday morning early start Nelspruit Spaghetti junction super special we had a great dice with fellow competitor team Hulk. We continued to the day 2 gravel stages a long days rally ahead 100 km stages. We had 2 good stages. Now we had 2 long stages one after the other Maggsleigh1 @ 27 km of pure hell! and Hendriksdal 2 17 km.

Clutch was still slipping from time to time but we continued the end was near. In Maggsleigh 1 I hit a ditch so hard that move my steering wheel position 90 degrees but we could continue to finish the stage. Finally, the last stage The Sabie Grand finale spectator ordinated stage. Stage was good fun and I enjoyed it. @teamnatie #66 have completed the gruelling Rally of SA. These are our results for the Rally of SA: Nationally, 11 overall plus the National Classics class win Regionally, 5 overall plus the NR1 class win We would like to thank all our sponsors and fans for their support. The next rally will be in KZN but no main sponsor could yet be secured and The Bulletin is uncertain if the Rally will go ahead. Keep watching our pages for updates on the developments of this years National Rally Championships.
