Summer Service Stumped on Summer Service Ideas? Check out some service projects from previous years to do:
Marathons/ 5Ks
Go to HoustonRunningCalendar.com to find various running events taking place in the Houston area. Most of the runs are linked through that page, and its easy to organize a carpool to the runs downtown. As an incentive, most runs give out free shirts to volunteers! Some volunteering tasks include cheering on runners, handing out water, setup/cleanup, or watching over the Kids Zone. Some runs might even do a volunteer matching program, and donate money to your club! (Great start to fundraising for the school year).
School Activities Schools might need help painting walls, or redecorating classrooms. Ask teachers and other faculty if they need help! In addition, some host day camps, so see if they need any volunteers for that. It’s a good way to perform some service to your school.
Car Wash Fundraiser Hot and sunny? Thank Texas for the perfect weather to hold car washes in. Ask a nearby restaurant/store (Kroger, Fazolis, etc.) and see if you can borrow their location (call/ask in person). Then gather members, towels, and sponges and make posters to advertise the car wash. It can either be through donations, or a set price (usually $5). 8
Project Ideas Divisional Project Help feed Houston over the summer. Volunteer at a food pantry, make meals for kids, or go to the Houston Food Bank. There are programs such as Helping Hands, or any local food pantries. In addition, you could also host a food can drive, and collect cans of food for donation!
Divisional Houston Food Bank Visit Division 3W will be visiting the Houston Food Bank multiple times throughout the year! There we will be doing anything from sorting food to packaging backpacks. Our first visit will be to the Portwall Warehouse on August 1st from 1PM-4PM! If you plan on attending, please let me know, so that I may send you the link.
