his architectural team would like to create an 18-hole golf course that features several recreational designs and caters to all age levels, especially the next generation. “I think one of the neat things is the way this course will be designed. It will have a whole series to play a 5,500 yard course or to play a 7,000 course and pretend you’re Tiger [Woods],” he said. “If you want to be a kid that wants to learn the game and you want to have a 3,000 yard course, then that’s here as well.” Calpino said Smith Group JJR is working with the city of Chicago to gather as much information as it can to understand what might work together to ultimately guide them to a detailed design on how the golf course will come together under one vision. “We’re looking at how we can serve the wide range of users,” he said. “We need to start to think about how we can cater to the next generation of golfers through recreational purposes such as picnicking, walking trails, usages of the park and how it all can knit into the golf course.” Calpino said Chicago has a great legacy of framework and holistic planning going back to the 1800s. He continued to say that Chicago has always been guided by some level of framework planning that looks holistically at the parks. “We’re at the point where we are reflective of the history, but we’re looking at today and the future to make sure we have the right frame work plan to guide us,” Calpino said.

Dr. Carol Adams, who is a 48-year South Shore resident, said she will help keep the community involved during the golf course planning process. Adams said a lot of longtime residents have felt neglected from past community projects, and really want to make sure this golf course project is respectful of the legacy of the neighborhood as it propels the community into the future. “There needs to be some sense of a mutual vision of where we want to end up, where we would like to see our community and what we think our neighborhood deserves,” she said. “The community golfers have asked us to please incorporate ideas that would encourage young people to get engaged and get involved in the game and grow the game.” Adams highlighted that they have started golfing programs within the area high schools and an orientation for a caddy program at Jackson Park, which is subsidized by the Western Golf Association. Calpino said the month of June was the discovering and listening phase of the 18-hole golf course, adding, that during the middle of the summer, his architectural team will begin to input ideas from the listening phase to generate the next generation of golfers. This process will also serve as guide in terms of how it will be created. Ultimately, he said, his team will look at the architectural drawings of the plan in September and draft the updated framework later in the fall.

VIDEO DEVELOPED BY EMERGENCY PHYSICIANS HELPS THE ELDERLY AND OTHERS AVOID HARMFUL FALLS

WASHINGTON — About a third of people who are 65 years of age and older will be involved in an accidental fall this year that diminishes their quality of life. That number increases the older a person gets. “Falls are complex and happen for a variety of reasons,” said Rebecca Parker, MD, FACEP, president of the American College of Emergency Physicians. “But there are common steps that can be taken right now to greatly decrease your risk of falling for the first time, including those who have fallen multiple times.” Emergency physicians have created a video designed to give people who have fallen in the past — especially the more vulnerable elderly population — easy steps to avoid future falls. It’s called the “7 Step Fall Challenge.” Emergency physicians are confident that by following these steps, you will greatly decrease your risk of falling, especially repeat falling. Future child support cases to use widely accepted ‘Income Shares’

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services announced today that the most widely used method nationwide to calculate child support will begin to be applied to new cases in Illinois starting July 1, following a bipartisan law signed by Governor Bruce Rauner last year. Child support orders established before July 1, 2017 will not change. Under the “income shares” model, child support will be calculated primarily by looking at typical costs for families in similar circumstances. The income of both parents will also be factored in. Currently, child support in Illinois is calculated primarily based on the income of the obligor – the parent who owes payments – and the number of children. The income shares model considers the typical costs to raise a child for a family at a similar income level as the parents in a case. If there are two incomes, both are added together to arrive at the amount needed to raise the child. Each parent’s contribution is then calculated by applying the methods laid out by the model. The portion owed by the parent who the child lives with is assumed to be paid because they reside together. Illinois now joins 39 other states and the District of Columbia in adopting the income shares model for calculating child support.

Help Stop the U.S. Senate from Killing Medicare/Medicaid and Canceling Coverage for 22 Million Americans The United States Senate is attempting this week to ramp through passage of an Affordable Health Care Bill aimed at undoing the Obama Care Health protection for millions of Americans. Back 2 School Illinois Launches Contest to Surprise Two Chicago Schools with Free Supplies for Every Student This Fall

Back 2 School Illinois (B2SI), a Chicago-based nonprofit that provides tens of thousands of deserving kids from low-income families with free school supplies to help them succeed in the classroom has announced the launch of this year’s “Win School Supplies for Every Student in a School” contest. Back 2 School Illinois holds the contest annually, in which the students of two Chicago schools win free school supplies. Each and every child at both of the winning schools receives their own B2SI kit, loaded with the core supplies they need for the year. Applications for 2017 must be postmarked by July 24th in order to qualify for the contest. Anyone can nominate a Chicago school and there is no limit to how many times a school can be nominated. Whether you are a parent, community leader, concerned citizen, student or member of a faculty, you can enter the contest on behalf of a school. The two winning Chicago schools will be selected over the summer and notified by August 7th. During the first week of classes this fall, the student bodies of both winning schools will be surprised by Back 2 School Illinois with the delivery of the free school supplies. While most students strive for success in the classroom, it can sometimes prove difficult when they don’t have the necessary school supplies. With B2SI’s annual contest, underserved Chicago students from the two winning schools are given the tools they need to thrive in the classroom. Providing these kits the first week of school lets the students know that they deserve a good education. ILLINOIS RANKS HIGHEST IN NATION FOR ROAD SAFETY SPRINGFIELD – Illinois has been recognized as the top state in the country for road safety, according to The State of Safety report released by the National Safety Council. The report uses a grading system to rank states based on policy and laws pertaining to key safety issues. “While it’s an honor to see our efforts recognized at a national level, the high ranking comes with responsibility,” said Illinois Transportation Secretary Randy Blankenhorn. “Now, more than ever, we have to continue developing new strategies to make zero fatalities a reality and improve safety for all who travel on Illinois roads.” The report analyzes best practices, policies and laws throughout the nation as they pertain to safety across roadways, home and communities and workplaces. The road safety section is based on eight subcategories: impaired driving, child passenger safety, distracted driving, issues for older drivers, seat belts, speeding, teen drivers and vulnerable road users.

Job Hunting? 5 Reasons to Consider Using a Staffing Agency

(StatePoint) If you’re an active job seeker or simply looking to expand your career horizons, many experts say that in today’s market, working with a recruiter can give you a substantial leg-up. Combining new technology and staffing expertise to speed up and simplify your job search, these benefits may account for why the staffing and recruitment industry is growing substantially. Here are five reasons to consider working with a staffing agency, from the experts at Randstad US, a human resources consulting firm. • Access to “hidden” jobs. Recruiters are often tasked by companies to hire for positions not advertised publicly. The only way to find them is through a staffing agency. Often, these positions are the most sought after in the marketplace, and in some of the most desirable workplaces. • A huge number of companies rely on them. As the economy embraces an “on-demand” workforce, more employers are turning to staffing firms who use emerging job search technologies alongside their human instincts to deliver the best-fit talent they seek. In fact, more than eight in 10 employers (82 percent) at least somewhat agree that by 2025, their reliance on staffing/recruiting partners will increase, according to Randstad’s Workplace 2025 study. • Recruiters can be your career agent. Wading through hundreds of online job boards, company ads and social media sites can be complicated, time-consuming and frustrating. You don’t have to go it alone. A recruiter

can help you with your job search, enhance your resume, provide career advice and more. The best recruiters look beyond your resume to understand your career goals, workplace expectations and values to identify the best-fit jobs for you within the digital landscape. • Not just for temps. Many people assume staffing agencies only offer temporary positions. Recruiters are often asked to search for full-time, permanent and temporary-to-hire positions across a wide range of industries. Even those who begin working as a temporary employee are often hired permanently after proving their value. In fact, the Workplace 2025 study says 56 percent of companies say many of the top talent in their company began as temporary workers. • It’s free. There aren’t many things you can get for free these days, but the many benefits of working with a staffing company are among them. “Be sure to work with a recruiter who is passionate about helping you reach your potential,” says Jim Link, chief human resources officer, Randstad North America. “They should play the role of trusted human partner in today’s technology-driven world to ensure you are recognized as an individual, not just another resume.” Given that more than half of employers (51 percent) named staffing/recruiting firms as their most effective method for finding full-time and contract workers, job seekers should consider taking advantage of this resource to improve their job search chances.

Experts at Randstad US, a human resources consulting firm offers five reasons to consider using a staffing agency during your next job search.

(Family Features) As the weather gets warmer, mosquitoes can prevent homeowners from reaping the benefits of living life outside. According to a Harris Poll conducted on behalf of TruGreen, 85 percent of Americans say that mosquitoes limit their family’s outdoor activities during the months they’re most active. The same survey also found that nearly two-thirds of Americans are concerned about protecting themselves and their family from Zika or other mosquito-borne illnesses. A majority of respondents reported using bug spray on themselves and their family members to combat mosquitoes outdoors at home. Although it’s the leading preventative measure, still only half say it is most effective at preventing mosquitoes from biting. Depending on where you live, the mosquito biting season lasts 5-7 months. If spray isn’t adequate to combat the mosquitoes at your home, it may be necessary to take additional measures. These tips from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the pest control experts at TruGreen can help combat mosquitoes outside of the home: Remove standing water. Mosquitoes generally lay eggs near water, so once a week take time to dump anything that

may hold water in the yard. This includes buckets, kiddie pools and birdbaths. Don’t overlook items like toys, planters and flowerpot saucers. For containers intended to hold water, like cisterns or rain barrels, regularly check that the lid is secure so mosquitoes can’t gain access. A finely woven mesh is a good alternative if there is no lid. If you can’t cover the container and won’t be drinking from it, use a larvicide to treat the water. Be wary of unexpected reservoirs. Natural features such as shrubbery and tree stumps can also collect water, and they may be more difficult to remedy. Keep dense shrubs thinned and pruned. Increasing the air flow can make these areas less attractive. If removing a tree stump is impractical, a professional can guide you in proper treatment. Apply a broad-application pest eliminator. Use an outdoor insect spray or professional service to kill mosquitoes in areas where they rest all over the yard. A professionally applied treatment such as TruGreen Mosquito Defense targets pests where they live, and the company’s professionally trained specialists use an innovative mosquito control formula to treat all areas of the yard where mosquitoes hide, including trees, shrubs, mulched areas and all types of ground cover.

Athleisure Trend Let’s You Look Good in Casual Clothes

(StatePoint) From fitness conscious consumers to busy moms who are always on the go, casual athletic attire is becoming a socially acceptable and on-trend style. In fact, it’s so popular, it carries its own name: “athleisure.” It may sound like a piece of cake to dress in casual and relaxed clothing. However, avoiding a “just rolled out of bed look” is not so simple. If you find that comfy yoga pants or joggers are increasingly becoming a staple in your wardrobe, consider these tips to ensure you always look put together when sporting them. • The right shoe goes a long way: Forgo the traditional or “core” running shoe for this look. Such brands as Adidas, Converse, Nike and Vans have introduced updates to their classic offerings. While still inspired by an athletic lifestyle, variations in color, height, patterns and textures accommodate the growing trend for casual wear. In addition to looking good, they are breathable and functional -- just in case you wanted to sneak in a light workout during the day! For example, the popular Adidas Baseline still comes in a classic white. However, this year they introduced a version in peach, a fun and new spring color. • Get the family involved: Did you grow up loving your Chuck Taylors? The good news is that new athleisure wear is available as a full family offering, so that infants, tweens and teens can also enjoy comfortable, yet stylish, shoes. In response to this trend, family-friendly retailer Rack Room Shoes recently introduced The Athletic Shop, a shop-within-a-shop concept that highlights nationally recognized name brand products for those with an active lifestyle. “As we see the athleisure trend continue to grow, we’re continually adding new introductions from athletic brands for the entire family,” says Adam McDermott, senior project manager of The Athletic Shop, Rack Room Shoes. • Polish off the look: Consider taking some extra time to do hair and makeup on the day you select a casual outfit from your closet. Or try pairing joggers and athleisure footwear with a nice handbag, statement scarf or leather jacket. This will help put the look together nicely. With all this in mind, the experts at Rack Room Shoes are focusing on comfortable, functional and stylish athleisure-inspired footwear. More information is available at rackroomshoes.com. To look your best when dressing casually, be sure to craft your outfits with care.

The athleisure trend is growing with designers continuously adding new introductions for members of the entire family.

Be Fashionable and Fit (StatePoint) Staying active doesn’t just keep a waistline in check, it benefits every part of the body, including the brain. Now is the time to renew your commitment to staying fit. Here are some top tips to get moving more. • Rethink Your Commute. Leave the car keys at home and lace up your sneakers instead. Commuting to work by bike is a great way to bookend the work day with some aerobic activity. • Take a Walk. Even the most adventurous weekend warriors are sometimes required to sit or stand in place for long stretches in the workplace. If your job keeps you sedentary, break up the day with a brisk walk outdoors during lunch. Throughout the day, stretch your legs with a loop around your work station. It sounds counter-intuitive, but a short break spent being physically active can help boost your overall productivity. • Get Out of Town. Skip the gym and plan a day or weekend trip dedicated to physical fitness. Whether it’s hiking a nearby trail, kayaking a local river, or doing yoga in the park, there’s nothing like getting your exercise fix in nature. • Gear up. New tech gear is helping support people’s efforts to get outdoors and stay fit, so consider gearing up before your next adventure. For example, Casio’s PRO TREK WSD-F20 Smart Outdoor Watch is water-resistant and equipped with GPS capabilities and a full-color map display. Users can download maps in advance to continue getting navigation guidance even when they are offline or out of range. Vital information, such as travel speed, elapsed time and distance, is close at hand without checking your smartphone -- making it a good choice for cyclists. Other tools include a compass, altimeter and barometer. • Try Something New. Change up your fitness routine from time to time to avoid hitting a plateau. This will keep things mentally interesting so you don’t lose interest in exercise. What’s more, a new class or activity may “surprise” your body by working different muscles in a new way. With a few simple strategies and the right tools, incorporating fitness into your life can be fun and easy.

Staying fit to look your best in the latest fashions means committing yourself to a fitness and health routine.
