KNOCKING STRESS OUT. STUDENTS IN THE RING FOR MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS. Students from Excel Academy of Englewood, part of the Chicago Public Schools’ Options Network, recently learned a healthy new method to blow off steam and proper boxing technique at the TITLE Boxing Club Wicker Park. Organized by The B.I.G. Homie Project, the event focused on the importance of releasing stress and bottled-up feelings in fun and healthy ways, and destigmatizing conversations around mental health. The Excel Academy of Englewood is an accelerated schoolof-choice for students, ages 15-21 years old, who have fallen behind in their studies. Students can earn up to five credits per semester and 10 credits per year, allowing them to graduate in two and a half years or less. B.I.G. Homie Project is a non-profit dedicated to connecting youth from within communities of color with mentors and opportunities to reach their full potential. CHICAGOLAND PERFORMING ARTS VENUES AND PRODUCERS UNIFY AROUND VACCINATION AND MASK REQUIREMENTS FOR AUDIENCES The League of Chicago Theatres shared today that a growing coalition of more than 65 performing arts venues and producers across Chicagoland have agreed upon Covid-19 Vaccination and Mask Requirements for audiences through the end of 2021. This unified COVID-19 protection protocol will be in effect by September 1, 2021, for indoor productions, requiring audience members to provide proof of vaccination or negative test certification upon entry and to wear masks. These venues and their performers, backstage crew and staff will comply with vaccination requirements and testing protocols to further ensure the safety of all guests and company members. Organizations will begin notifying ticket holders for performances scheduled through December 2021 to ensure awareness of the new policies. Specific guidance and other venue specific requirements can be found on the organizations’ respective websites. The current protocols were developed by the coalition in consultation with public health officials. They will be reviewed regularly and may include an extension or relaxation of certain provisions if the science dictates. Specific protocols may vary by venue, but in general, patrons will need to be masked and fully vaccinated with an FDA authorized vaccine in order to attend an indoor performance and must show proof of vaccination and identification at their time of entry into the venue with their valid ticket. “Fully vaccinated” means the performance date must be at least 14 days after the second dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine, or at least 14 days after a single-dose vaccine. Where negative tests are accepted, guests may provide proof of a COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours of the performance start time, or a negative COVID-19 antigen test taken within 6 hours of the performance start time. This includes accommodations for children under 12 and people with a medical condition or closely held religious belief that prevents vaccination. All patrons will have to wear a mask throughout the performance and during their time in the venue. Where refreshments are available certain restrictions may apply based on the organization you are attending.

The Community STEM Center in Matteson is expected to be open by the 2022-2023 school year and will be located at 20648 Matteson Avenue. The facility will house the School District 159 offices and the Community STEM Center. The STEM Center will include an aerospace lab, a Makerspace lab and a foundational lab for younger students and community members. Dr. Mable Alfred, superintendent of School District 159, said the goal of the STEM Center is to pique children’s interest in science, technology, engineering and math. “One thing we know, we have to prepare ourselves for a world that many of our students don’t see right now, a world that doesn’t exist,” she said. In order to get the children excited about STEM it has to go beyond school, into the homes and into the communities. The STEM Center will bring in the family and the community. According to Alfred, there was a voters’ referendum in the district and

68% votes were in favor of the STEM Center. She also boasted that taxes are not being raised to finance and build the STEM Center project. Alfred is looking forward to the STEM Center bringing the foundation of science, technology, engineering and math to the community and raising the level of that curriculum in the community. “It will give our kids the inspiration to become aerospace engineers, astronauts and pilots. It’s going to open up a world of possibilities for them. Not just our students, but our community,” she said. It was important for the district to open the center to the community so it could show how integral STEM education is. To engage the community, there will be family classes as well as classes that the community can participate in. One example is if the primary students in first and second grades are working on a project, there will also be classes for parents of those students for them to engage in those projects. Alfred expects for the STEM center to be a gamechanger in the community

because it will prepare the students for the future, giving them resources to enable them to pursue careers in STEM. The STEM Center will be in District 38, which is represented by Illinois State Representative Debbie Meyers-Martin. For Meyers-Martin, the STEM Center is necessary for the students to be prepared for the globally competitive world. For them to do that, resources must be available for those students to be innovative, discover, explore, research, and collaborate. “Preparation, education, those types of resources are extremely important for our students to be successful,” she said. Meyers-Martin supports the STEM Center and is excited about what the parents, the school district and the Village of Matteson are doing with the creation of the center. “I am looking forward to the STEM Center being up and operating so that our students can get the education in the sciences, engineering, technology and mathematics that they so well-deserve and it is our responsibility to make sure they have those resources,” said Meyers-Martin.

Black Women’s Health Imperative Launches “Take The Shot for the WIN” Vaccination Awareness Campaign with the Women’s National Basketball Players Association and National Council of Negro Women, Inc. New Partnership Seeks to Expand Outreach to Increase Vaccinations in Communities of Color (Black PR Wire) WASHINGTON D.C. — The Black Women’s Health Imperative (BWHI) is excited to unveil a new partnership with the Women’s National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA), and the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. (NCNW) that seeks to expand COVID-19 vaccine equity among women of color and their families. Through the Take The Shot for the WIN campaign, the three leading organizations will combine to educate and raise awareness of the benefits of immunization as a critical element of reducing hospitalizations and saving lives in communities of color. These dynamic organizations will join together to serve as trusted messengers and credible sources of information in a bid to encourage Covid-19 vaccinations among Black women, their families, and communities. “Throughout the pandemic, the disparities in health, economic, and social outcomes have been especially stark for Black women and their families. The Delta variant has made vaccination critical,” said Linda Goler Blount, President and CEO of the Black Women’s Health Imperative. “Take The Shot for the WIN will take us one step further in reaching Black women so that they’re not only empowered to educate their families, friends, and communities about the COVID-19 vaccines, but will add the voices of strong influencers and role models, as partners, to bolster their efforts.” “In Black and brown communities, women play a big role in the health decisions for their children, elder parents, their partners, and themselves. As we have seen recently, the women of The W have pretty powerful voices and they can help mobilize our communities. It made sense, then, for our fully “vaxxed” membership to prioritize COVID-19 vaccine education and form a mighty trifecta with BWHI and NCNW to launch the Take The Shot for the WIN campaign!”, said Terri Carmichael Jackson, WNBPA Executive Director. Johnnetta Betsch Cole, Ph.D., Chair and Seventh President of NCNW, stated, “When spider webs unite, they can even tie up a lion. In the spirit of that African proverb, NCNW is partnering with Black Women’s Health Imperative and the Women’s National Basketball Players Association to encourage Black women and their families to Take The Shot for the WIN.” The organizations first announced the partnership during the “Healthy Dose” virtual conversation on Tuesday, Aug. 10, during BWHI’s Anniversary Week, featuring: Lisa Leslie, Former WNBA Player, 3x MVP, and 4x Olympic Gold Medalist; Jessica “Dr. Jess” Clemons, MD, Board-Certified Psychiatrist; Contessa Metcalfe, MD, MSPH, Owner, Acute Face MD, Cast Member-“Married to Medicine”, Bravo TV; Elizabeth Williams, Current WNBA Player- Atlanta Dream, WNBPA Secretary; Johnnetta Betsch Cole, Ph.D., NCNW; Terri Carmichael Jackson, Executive Director, WNBPA, and Angela Rye, Esq. Principal and CEO, IMPACT Strategies, as Moderator. BWHI is proud to support this critical partnership and outreach, particularly around a key health issue impacting Black women and their families. POLITICAL Affairs State Rep. Justin Slaughter Champion legislation That Will Create A Statewide Resentencing Task Force Rep. Slaughter House Bill 3587, passed both houses with a strong bipartisan support. To reduce Illinois’ ever-growing prison expenditures and advance the interests of justice, state Rep. Justin Slaughter, D-Chicago, recently championed legislation that will create a statewide task force on resentencing which will look for ways to safely reduce Illinois’ prison population. “Millions of Black and Brown individuals were either incarcerated or over sentenced due to racist policing and policies that peaked during the failed War on Drugs,” said Slaughter. “Our communities are dying, and we can no longer afford to wait to be handed down a solution. Now is the time for change.” “We are simply spending too much money and resources on locking people up in cages instead of improving our schools, feeding the needy and sheltering the homeless,” said Slaughter. “Our government’s dollars should work for us instead of working to lock us up.”

Rep. Kam Buckner Receives Human Trafficking Task Force Appointment Buckner, has been appointed to the newly crated Human Trafficking Task Force to help develop policies and best practices for combating Illinois human trafficking isssues. “Illinois is a national and international crossroads for goods and transportation. Unfortunately, that also makes Illinois a crossroads for human trafficking,” Buckner said. “As a member of the Human Trafficking Task Force, I will work to improve our response to human trafficking and ensure that the resources necessary for human trafficking prevention and survivor support are available.”

Founded 85 years ago, NCNW has 300 community and campus-based sections and thirty-two national affiliates representing more than two million women and men. For more information, please visit www.ncnw.org Established in 1998, the Women’s National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA) is the first of its kind and longest running union for women athletes. Buckner sponsored Senate Bill 1599, recently signed into law by Gov. J.B. Pritzker, to create the Human Trafficking Task Force. The task force will work to improve data sharing and collection between government agencies about human trafficking and study how the state can work with private and non-profit entities to prevent human trafficking and provide assistance to survivors. The task force will also identify best practices for reducing disparities in the treatment of missing persons cases based on gender and race. Buckner sponsored Senate Bill 1599, which was recently signed into law by the governor.

Illinois Secretary of State Candidate Pat Dowell calls for Digital Driver's License Pat Dowell, candidate for Democratic nominee for Illinois Secretary of State, announced another innovation for the Secretary of State’s office. She proposed the creation of a digital driver’s license that would be available on your phone, like a boarding pass, an idea that is becoming a reality in many states across the country. The digital license would be available to augment a hard copy license. Dowell said, “Digital driver’s licenses are more secure and more convenient. Whether at an airport security check, a traffic stop, or an age verification, a scan of a driver’s license on your cell phone can quickly give accurate information and save officials and Illinoisans time and trouble. You would be able to access your digital driver’s license on your phone, either through the personal dashboard I’ve proposed or as a standalone app.” “Illinois cannot afford to be left behind in this digital age. If other states can do digital driver’s licenses, why can’t we?” said Dowell. “In a post-COVID world, we need to use as many digital tools as we can to make it easier and safer for people.”

FASHION The Tayion Collection Expands Stylish Suiting to Macy’s and Men’s Wearhouse Stores Nationwide for Fall 2021 Tayion Collection prepares to land in 50 Macy’s and 50 Men’s Wearhouse stores and launches custom suit program in all 630 Men’s Wearhouse locations nationwide for Fall 2021. DETROIT PRNewswire -- Since 2004, Montee Tayion Holland has done away with the drab, while sidelining the mono-color dark gray and navy-blue drudgery of formalwear and business attire. Having launched his Tayion Collection earlier this year into 50 Macy’s locations and 25 Men’s Wearhouse doors, which is set to double to 50 Men’s Wearhouse stores in spring 2022, his creative and innovative designs are now hitting all the major markets. The Tayion line of high-end, iconic men’s suits, formalwear and separates bring bold colors and striking patterns into the modern day dressing, whether on the job or after hours. The creative dexterity in the designs and materials strike a purposeful, wearable statement to every event in any environment. Holland’s flagship collection has been available across America in thousands of specialty stores since 2004, generating millions of dollars annually. “The reaction to my Tayion line has been phenomenal,” Holland said. “When I originally decided to launch my own brand over 20 years ago, I created pieces that filled a fashion void in the marketplace and those custom pieces resonated with individuals who wanted to stand out. When the product hit the specialty stores, the reception was nothing short of electric, so this move into Macy’s and Men’s Wearhouse is the next logical step in the evolution of the brand and we’ve proven there is definitely a market for it.” The wheels were set in motion in 2003 when Holland attended the Las Vegas Magic Show, the largest apparel trade show in the nation. He had the smallest booth available, a ten-by-ten-foot square with a build-out of 12 pieces out of his very own closet. With a few helpers handing out a homemade flyer, he became quickly inundated with store buyers from across the nation committing to orders. “The Magic Show is where all the moving parts of the apparel industry meet in the same place at the same time,” Holland said. “Manufacturers are there, designers, celebrities launching their lines, as well as suppliers. Anyone with a hand in the industry has a presence there.” Holland’s current distribution is growing as well. Less than a year after launching in Men’s Wearhouse, he doubled the number of stores to 50. Similarly, the Tayion Collection will be available as a custom suit program in all 630 Men’s Wearhouse locations. Plans are also in the works to expand clothing options to include shirts and ties. “The custom suit program will begin in Spring of 2022,” stated Holland. “It’s very exciting to be operating on this level of volume and distribution, as it’s entirely new for me. It takes me back to the beginning where I served in the United States Marine Corps and traveled the world designing custom pieces for myself. After completing my graduate degree in education, I taught high school History. Then I went out

on a limb, moved out of my comfort zone and launched Tayion.” Holland’s mantra revolves around his comfort zone. “There is no growth in the comfort zone and no comfort in the growth zone,” he said. “I try to find ways to push myself outside of my comfort zone every day so that I can grow every day. I want to adapt, adjust and overcome obstacles.” Setting modest goals for 2022, Holland plans to hit sales of $8 million for the Tayion Collection and $5 million for the T-Fusion line. T-Fusion will receive a new look through a relaunch coming this spring. “From the trends I’ve seen, retailers are looking for more diverse brands, both in terms of designs and fabrics,” Holland said. “I’ve been across the world as a Marine, as a top sales representative for Pfizer selling that ubiquitous little blue pill, and as a designer looking for my next inspiration. Tayion is an extension of my life experiences and is on the road to becoming a global brand, we’ll continue bringing it into more markets.” T-Fusion, created in 2006, boasts a price point starting at $250-$300 and has been sold in more than 2,500 specialty stores nationwide, including K&G stores. NEWS 2020 Cook County property tax analysis: A heavier burden for businesses, Black and Latino suburban property owners Businesses in Cook County and Black and Latino suburban property owners are bearing the brunt of 2020’s property tax increases, according to a first-of-its-kind analysis of nearly 1.8 million bills by Treasurer Maria Pappas’ office. The county will collect more than $16.1 billion in property taxes this year. That’s an increase of $534 million, or more than 3.4%, from last year. Second Installment bills were posted online August 12 and will be mailed to taxpayers later this month. The analysis, along with more than 100 pages of detailed tables on suburbs, townships and Chicago, is available at cookcountytreasurer.com. Key findings include: • Commercial and industrial property owners in Cook County – in its suburbs and in Chicago – are carrying a heavier share of the increased tax burden. Businesses are being billed more than $7 billion, an increase of $410 million, or 6.2%. Homeowners are being billed $8.9 billion, an increase of $114 million, or 1.3%. • Property tax increases are hitting majority Black and Latino communities – both their homeowners and businesses – the hardest. These communities make up six of the top 10 areas with the largest tax increases for homeowners and seven of the top 10 increase for commercial properties. • In the south suburbs, where taxes are already greater than in other parts of Cook County, some property owners are paying three to five times as much in taxes as the owner of an equally valued property in Chicago. “Our research shows that inequities in the property tax system persist, particularly for businesses and Black and Latino property owners, and especially in the south suburbs. The 2020 property tax increases are exacerbating financial stresses in these communities

and thwarting economic progress and generational wealth-building,” Pappas said. Not all property owners will see their bills increase because a number of factors determine property taxes. For 2020, several items affected the tax bills: • As scheduled, the Cook County Assessor’s Office last year revalued all properties in the suburbs south of North Avenue. • The Assessor’s Office lowered the assessed values of many properties elsewhere in Cook County, citing the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The value of all residential properties was reduced by about 10%. Not all commercial properties received COVID reductions. • Elected leaders in several suburbs increased the overall amount taxed, meaning property owners in those communities will see much higher bills. The analysis found commercial and industrial property owners generally will see bigger increases in their bills than homeowners, as the overall tax burden continues to shift to them. The higher taxes come as many businesses continue to struggle with a loss of revenue as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020, business properties in the south and southwest suburbs took on another 1.5% of the tax burden, compared with a 1.1% shift from residential to commercial in the north and northwest suburbs and a 1.3% shift from residential to commercial in Chicago. The shift in the tax burden in the south and southwest suburbs is striking, particularly for commercial property owners: • In Rich Township, which includes all or portions of Matteson, Olympia Fields, Flossmoor and Richton Park, the median business property tax bill rose by $3,895, or 13%, to $33,075. The median bill for homeowners declined by $114, or 2%, to $5,518. • In Bloom Township, which includes all or part of Glenwood, Chi-

cago Heights, South Chicago Heights, Lansing, Lynwood, Ford Heights and Sauk Village, the median 2020 tax bill for commercial and industrial properties is $12,563, an increase of $1,459, or 13%, from a year earlier. The median residential bill declined by $117, or 3%, to $3,321. • In Calumet Township, which includes all or portions of Blue Island, Calumet Park and Riverdale, the median business property tax bill rose by $1,712, or 17%, to $11,508. The median bill for homeowners declined by $380, or 13%, to $2,652. The 18 highest Cook County tax rates, which are multiplied by a property’s assessed value to determine how much a property owner pays, are in the south suburbs. Park Forest tops the list, with tax rates almost five times as high as Chicago, followed by Phoenix, Riverdale, Harvey, Markham, Ford Heights, Calumet City, Country Club Hills and Hazel Crest — all of which have tax rates that are three or more times higher than Chicago. In the western suburbs, property owners are not immune to higher bills because tax levies rose and properties were reassessed. As a result, homeowners in suburbs including Bellwood, Maywood, Hillside, Cicero and Berwyn will see significantly higher 2020 bills. In the north and northwest suburbs, the median residential tax bill this year is $6,015, a decrease of $26, or 0.4%. The median commercial tax bill is $27,651, an increase of $2,026 or 7.9%. More than 80% of business property owners, and about half of homeowners, received higher bills than they did last year. In Chicago, tax bills vary widely from ward to ward. About 84% of business property owners, compared with half of homeowners, are being billed more than last year. The median residential tax bill is $3,341, down by $1.63, or .05%. The median commercial tax bill is $9,659, an increase of $761, or 8.6%.

Black Broads Abroad X Clark University To Host, Get The F Out Of America: The Blueprint Conference ATLANTA PRNewswire -- Phelena Jean, founder of the multi-media platform Black Broads Abroad is hosting the Get The F Out of America Blueprint conference, being held at Clark Atlanta University, October 2-3, 2021. The event aims to give African-Americans an actionable blueprint for thriving outside of the ‘Divided States’, as Jean calls it. Featuring more than fifteen seasoned and successful African-American expatriates, who have collectively lived in nearly one hundred countries, with sessions ranging from, “How to Retire Overseas at Any Age,” “How to Create Location Independent Income,” “Investing in International Real Estate,” “How to Flip Your USD and Ball Overseas on Any Budget,” “Being Recruited For

Overseas Employment,” “Parenting Abroad” and much more. With twelve sessions over the course of two days, attendees will come away with a viable exit plan for getting the F out of America. Jean, an expat for over a decade across four continents and six countries, with travel to forty countries in between remarked, “Living in the Divided States as a Black person, is like being in a masochistic relationship. I want Black people to understand that being African American has distinct privileges outside the context of the U.S. We are beloved all over the world and it’s important that we exploit these global opportunities. She goes on to say, “Leaving the Divided States was the single

best decision I’ve ever made in my life.” Phelena, who is a retired international educator and visionary serial entrepreneur, with experience in Beauty, Media and Real Estate credits her HBCU education with preparing her for a life as a globally successful entrepreneur, she remarked, “Partnering with Clark Atlanta University on the Get The F Out of America conference was important, because my HBCU education changed the trajectory of my life.” Once a juvenile delinquent and high school

dropout, Phelena now works to inspire Black women to take the leap and move abroad, to pursue a healthier and wealthier quality of life. Iconic Band Earth, Wind & Fire to Globally Release New Music With Universal Music Enterprises (UMe) LOS ANGELES PRNewswire -- Nine-time GRAMMY® Award-winning icons and one of the best-selling artists of all time Earth, Wind & Fire signed a global agreement with Universal Music Enterprises (UMe) that will result in the band returning to the studio for a new project with 12-time GRAMMY® Award winner Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds as producer and are set to release a reimagined version of their classic hit “Can’t Hide Love” titled “You Want My Love” with 4-time GRAMMY® Award nominee Lucky Daye on August 20th. Pre-save the track HERE. Featuring a topline vocal performance from rising singer-songwriter Lucky Daye and guitars by renowned hitmaker Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, who also produced the song alongside Demonte Posey (Toni Braxton, Tori Kelly, Jesse J), “You Want My Love” fuses the groundbreaking musical sounds of Earth, Wind & Fire with a contemporary star. Lucky offers a modern take on the track and makes it his own, while simultaneously keeping the spirit of the original version that Earth, Wind

& Fire fans have recognized for four decades intact. This year marks the 45th anniversary of the chart-topping single, which was originally released on the ‘studio side’ of Earth, Wind & Fire’s double-live album, Gratitude, in 1975. “Can’t Hide Love” peaked in the Billboard Top 40 Pop, reached #11 on the R&B Singles charts, and earned the band a GRAMMY®-nomina-

tion for Best Arrangement For Voices in 1977. Speaking of the track, Earth, Wind & Fire’s Philip Bailey shares, “I am super hyped about this all-star collaboration – Earth, Wind & Fire, Lucky Daye, and Kenny ‘Babyface’ Edmonds producing. It was an honor to join forces with these two superstars, and I truly believe we’ve created a winner all the way.”

“This project has been fantastic to work on,” said Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds. “We really wanted to bring a tremendous, iconic song that is unmistakably Earth, Wind & Fire into the contemporary world of Lucky Daye. The goal was to create a reimagined version of this classic song that reflects Lucky’s unique voice and musical style, while still honoring the original.” Lucky added: “When I first got the call, I flipped. Artists like me only dream of moments like this. I’m honored to be a part of the Earth, Wind & Fire legacy. I love these guys, man.” On Saturday, Aug. 21, Earth, Wind & Fire took the stage on the Great Lawn in Central Park for a special performance at “WE LOVE NYC: The Homecoming Concert produced by New York City, Clive Davis and Live Nation” to celebrate the city of New York’s reopening, alongside an all-star lineup of performers. Joined by Lucky Daye and Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, the band is set to perform “You Want My Love” as part of this historic, once-in-a-generation concert, which will air live worldwide exclusively

on CNN, CNN International, CNN en Español, and unauthenticated on CNNGo beginning at 5pm ET. Recently, the multi-platinum, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees celebrated their 50th anniversary in entertainment this year. “We are pleased to welcome Earth, Wind & Fire to UMe,” said UMe President and CEO Bruce Resnikoff. “UMe’s global team are honored to connect this iconic band and their music with lifelong fans, while engaging newcomers to discover and experience their trailblazing sound.” “You Want My Love” is the first of many collaborations that fans can expect from the band in the coming months. Earth, Wind & Fire are a music institution. In 1969, music legend Maurice White birthed the music force named after the elements from his very own astrological charts. With soul as deep as the plant, Earth, Wind & Fire charted a history that will live on forever. They’ve scored eight number one hits and have sold more than 100 million albums worldwide. They’ve released 23 albums; eight of those albums

went Double Platinum and hit the Top 10, making them one of the best-selling artists of all time. They’ve won an impressive nine GRAMMY® Awards including one for Lifetime Achievement (2012). In 2000, Earth, Wind & Fire was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, cementing their lasting impact on popular music and, in 2019, their contributions to arts and culture was acknowledged in Washington DC with the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors. The music of Earth, Wind & Fire is more alive than ever as they continue to inspire new audiences and thrill those who have been with them from the beginning. Like the elements in their name, Earth, Wind & Fire’s music has withstood ever-changing trends in the world and shows no sign of vanishing as they continue to create joy and uplifting music that will forever reach a sacred universal atmosphere. From the funky and infectious “Let’s Groove” to the timeless dance classic “September” to the heartfelt “Reasons,” Earth, Wind & Fire’s catalog of hits has become the soundtrack to many lives; now, then and forever.

HOME & GARDENING

Tips for a Budget-Friendly DIY Home Upgrade (StatePoint) As a homeowner, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by necessary renovations and all the things you’d like to accomplish around your property. If your list of updates is long, but your time and budget are strapped, remember, even small changes can make a big impact. Here are simple, affordable ways — inspired by FrogTape brand painter’s tape’s annual Paintover Challenge Room Makeover Contest — to make your space feel like new. Use Bright and Bold Colors. It’s common to keep interiors neutral with trendy grays and off-whites, occasionally adding in pops of color with accessories or accent walls. If you’re looking to take a unique approach to rejuvenating a room, consider adding bright and bold hues to your walls. Take inspiration from the outdoors, fruity drinks or blue skies to evoke emotions of joy with vivid greens, pinks or blues. Each year, celebrity designer Taniya Nayak teams up with FrogTape brand to share design trends. In 2021, Nayak suggests using the bright and bold colors of the “play hard” design trend, which is all about designating a place for fun and happy activities. Embrace Patterns in Unexpected Places. You may think of patterns for playrooms or children’s bedrooms, but have you ever considered using them to create a focal point in your kitchen, dining room or even your patio? With just a few tools, including paint, brushes and tape, you can add striped or checkered designs to walls, tables and floors. Creating a pattern doesn’t have to mean splurging on a variety of paint colors. You can create subtle variety by alternating high gloss and matte finish paints, or by adding varying amounts of white paint to create multiple shades of the same base color. However you create the pattern, having the right tape will be critical to avoid paint bleed from stripe to stripe. FrogTape Multi-Surface Painter’s Tape is made with PaintBlock Technology, which forms a barrier that seals the edges of the tape, to ensure sharp paint lines and professional-looking results every time. Create Calming Spaces. While old homes have unique character, outdated features can make the task of modernizing interiors feel like a major undertaking. For bathrooms, it’s simple and affordable to sand down what you have and refresh it with a coat of paint. Consider giving boring, outdated square tiles a contemporary look with different tones of gray. You can take it a step further by updating the vanity with deep green paint and gold accents. When you’re finished, you’ll have a sanctuary from your daily stresses created efficiently and affordably.

Turn on ambiance, turn off mosquitos

Add Personal Pops of Style. Think about the spaces where you spend a lot of time doing things you may not always enjoy – like the office or laundry room. Give these spaces a little TLC. Add fresh color to the walls, organize and hang photos of your favorite places to balance energy, encourage productivity and make everyday tasks feel less like chores. Dedicate Areas for Happy Moments. Do you have that one spot that you’re not sure what to do with? It could be a nook or the basement. Use these areas as places to live well and embrace the calming, happy moments in life, like relaxing with family, reading a good book or playing a board game. Add comfy, cozy textures of knit throw blankets, worn leather sofas or knobby rugs. Consider comforting, familiar shades like navy, light blues and grays, and cognac. These colors and textures work well on fireplaces, bookshelves or walls To see more of Taniya Nayak’s 2021 Design Trends for FrogTape brand and check out the 2021 Paintover Challenge projects for inspiration, visit https:// www.frogtape.com/paintoverchallenge. With creativity and the right tools, making impactful interior updates can be simple and affordable.

( BPT) - As people across America continue to spend more time at home, the backyard has become an extended outdoor living area and a happy place that provides a retreat from the busyness of everyday life. A place where you can relax, take a deep breath and enjoy special moments with family and friends. Moments like these are precious and should be enjoyed without interruptions. Mosquitos can offset the mood and take your evening from carefree to chaos. "Creating a space in the backyard where people can forget about the pressures of their day is a must," said TIKI Brand Sr. Product Manager, Jeremy Yingst. "Part of that experience includes creating a relaxing ambiance while keeping mosquitos away. That's why we designed lights with proven mosquito repellency. The string lights feature three diffusers with replaceable repellent pods that last 200 hours and provide a protection zone of 330 square feet." Three main features allow you to surround yourself with ambiance, not mosquitos: * Keep the moments lasting longer: Each strand is 36 feet, including 12 LED bulbs and three repellent pods that provide one season of mosquito repellency (assumes season as 90 days/average of 2.4 hours per day) and create a zone of protection. Replacement Pods are available for multiple seasons. For best results, hang no higher than 10 feet from the ground and let the mosquito repellent run for 15 minutes to establish protection. * Repel mosquitos at the flip of a switch: The TIKI Brand BiteFighter LED String Lights work when you want them to, day or night. To use for lighting and mosquito repellency, set the repellent on/off switch to ON. To use for lighting only, set the repellent on/off switch to OFF. * Customize your space: The string lights are delivered to your door with free shipping and can be hung in a variety of configurations to fit your patio, deck or yard. Border your space about 10 feet above the ground; combine multiple strings for unique configurations. Visit www.tikibrand.com/BiteFighter-LED-String-Lights for more information.
