Welcome to Chickenshed After a whirlwind of summer performances, including our fabulous new family show slot, we look forward to yet another exciting season, with young people and families continuing to be at the forefront of our minds. I am therefore absolutely delighted to present another wonderfully diverse and varied assortment of theatre performances, based around the theme of FABLES AND FAMILIES. We are already deep into the creative process for our brand new version of RAPUNZEL. This year I have been working extremely closely with our Youth Theatre in developing a captivating story built around a group of children who enter the world of Rapunzel and her magical hair, her possessive step-mother and a magical realm as Rapunzel adventures through the forest to find her true identity. Our highly skilled artistic staff will work with over 600 of our children, young people and students to help create the traditional Chickenshed Christmas offering! As always, it’s never too soon to book your preferred seats. One of Chickenshed’s most established long serving inclusive leaders, Joseph Morton, will be directing a version of the legend of the DR FAUSTUS by Christopher Marlowe. This production will apply our unique inclusive approach to an oft-told story. Fascinating preshow and post-show discussions will be an important part of us sharing how this tale of greed and remorse relates to the turmoil of human behaviour in our contemporary world. In other areas of our season, we are continuing our cherished series of the children’s show TALES FROM THE SHED, as the team also develops and explores new areas of work in which you, our audiences, have shown a huge interest, such as our uniquely interactive PLANET PLAY for 0-3 year olds. We are also developing a brand new creative initiative, THE SPACE BETWEEN US, that will bring together a varied group of people over the age of 50 with a group of equally diverse young people to devise a brand new piece of theatre. Browse through the brochure and you’ll find more diverse performance treats. You needn’t go anywhere else - some of the most innovative and entertaining performances around are right on your doorstep! See you at the theatre! Lou Stein, Artistic Director

Rapunzel Rapunzel, as you’ve never seen her before! Chickenshed is delighted to present Rapunzel in a new and exciting version of the well-loved fairy tale. Mysterious, romantic and life-affirming, this will be a dramatic re-telling of a story you thought you knew! Her famous long hair may give her incredible abilities, but Rapunzel soon realises that her true strength comes from within, and through each challenge she becomes stronger - and more certain of her path.
