Welcome to Chickenshed Following a jam-packed summer season with exciting events and festivals - and again, a thank you to Bolingbroke Park for sponsoring our Summer Arts Festival - there’s more this autumn! We’re launching a Family Fun Day in October to get even more of the community involved with Chickenshed. You’ll find the popular 3K Fun Run taking place as well as lots of new and entertaining activities - we can’t wait to see you there. Our Studio Shows are going from strength to strength, and the feedback we receive from audiences each season never fails to amaze us. Autumn’s production is Two by renowned dramatist Jim Cartwright (Little Voice) and it will be a brilliant, dramatic twohander, which is not to be missed. Winter may be on its way but that just means it’s time for another fantastic Chickenshed Christmas Show: The Twelve Days of Christmas! This will be a madcap, magical adventure that re-invents the well-known song into a huge spectacle with funny larger than life characters and our amazingly diverse cast giving it their all. It’s going to be the perfect festive production! Other highlights include a variety of workshops for adults and children, children’s theatre and Christmas and winter specials, and a wide range of Shed Talks and music events. We’re especially thrilled to be hosting Viva Santana in September, which will be live Latin music celebrating the legendary Carlos Santana. Whether you’ll come and watch a show, support us through fundraising or by volunteering or just visit, we thank you for your continued support - and we look forward to welcoming you!

Over the course of a single evening in a typical local pub, prepare to become intimately acquainted with your less than genial hosts, and the colourful characters who regularly pull up a stool. The Landlord and Landlady are bound together by a need to keep their business afloat, while harbouring a dark and unspoken secret that threatens to tear their fragile relationship apart. They move seamlessly from talking directly to the audience and to their customers, and amid the constant verbal savagery at each other they gradually reveal the rich, intimate tapestry of numerous intersecting lives. Written in 1989 by multi award-winning and internationally acclaimed dramatist Jim Cartwright (The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, Road) Two features fourteen diverse characters, portrayed by just two actors. Chickenshed’s adaptation of this stunningly fresh and relevant piece will expertly play on Cartwright’s renowned use of language and humour, and emphasise the urgent physical style of this brilliant two-hander.

A magical and humorous festive adventure! Brilliantly re-inventing the traditional and well-loved song, The Twelve Days of Christmas will be a rollicking, magical Christmas adventure with lots of laughs along the way! Four brave children flee their mean step-family to follow a mysterious Partridge on a quest for five gold rings. Aided and abetted by Three French Hens, they encounter a dazzling array of larger than life characters including a gaggle of paranoid Geese and some particularly pompous Lords, and are pursued by Four Calling Birds who are also in search of the rings. Just why do the Two Turtle Doves guard the rings so carefully, and will the children find them and so unlock the secrets to their family? Featuring Chickenshed’s famously large and amazingly diverse cast, and chock-full of fun, music and dance, The Twelve Days of Christmas is one of our most popular and imaginative Christmas shows ever – and the perfect festive production for everyone aged 5 and up! Full performance times and prices are on the next page.

Now, some 50 years later, seven young graduates from the Royal Academy, Trinity and Guildhall Schools of Music have discovered his music and formed a dynamic group to re-create the musical magic that was the Alex Welsh trademark. Led by the masterly James Davison on trumpet and vocals, the band features Tom Green on trombone, Liam Dunachie on piano, James Kitchman on guitar / banjo, Misha Mullov-Abbado on bass, and Scott Chapman on drums. Special guests will be former teenage Dixieland bandleader Julian Marc Stringle on clarinet and saxes, and the long-time star with the Alex Welsh Band, trombone ace Roy Williams.
