Spring Season Brochure 2013

Page 1

Welcome to Chickenshed This season much of our focus is on the Spring Show. This is a large-scale production that is written, directed, designed and choreographed by the Company, and which brings our BTEC and Foundation Degree students together with members of our Adult Theatre Workshops to create a stylish, vibrant and entertaining show. This year we have gone to our back catalogue and are reviving and re-interpreting an old favourite – Globaleyes. First performed in 2002, this show is fondly remembered by all who experienced it, and certainly, it’s a dramatic show that deals with some big issues in an arresting way. If you visit the website you’ll get a taste of what the show was like and, as we go through rehearsals, how Globaleyes 2013 is starting to shape up. This show is all about community – from the people in it, to the themes it touches on, to the people watching it – we can’t wait for you to be part of the experience! This season also sees the return of the lively Emerging Writers’ Week and one of our new creative partners, Border Crossings, who this year will be performing their new show Consumed and programming a day of arts and culture inspired by China. We always try our very best to live up to our inclusive ethos by providing an arts programme for all – every season we create a varied programme of shows, workshops and talks that will appeal to both children and adults. We hope you will find something here for you.

This passionate, emotive and vibrant show makes the universal personal as it encourages us to reconsider the importance of community in today’s changing world. Globaleyes was last performed in Edinburgh in 2005 and now returns to Chickenshed, reimagined for our large-scale community cast. Globaleyes 2013 weaves a story of unerring passion for the beauty of life against the cheapening value that society can put on it.
