Welcome to Chickenshed This summer season is extraordinarily diverse, from original and moving productions, to fun shows for children getting you in the sporting spirit, and a variety of events, workshops and music - there really is something for everyone! Not to be missed is Studio Show In The Absence of Silence, which will be a dramatic and searingly honest play inspired by, and interweaving, material from our outreach work, and which will paint a powerful picture of friendship, survival and hope. Summer at Chickenshed signifies the end of the academic year for our students and they will be performing and celebrating their achievements at their graduation shows and ceremony. We welcome applications from prospective BTEC, Foundation and BA students - see the details in the brochure. Chickenshed will be getting into the Olympic spirit with our amazing Tales from the Shed children’s shows based on huge favourite Brer Rabbit as he leaves his patch and gets up to lots of mischief on his way to the Rio Games! There’s also accompanying Tales workshops for exciting backstage experience, and our popular week-long holiday schemes for 5-11 year olds, Easter Shed and Summer Shed, where children devise a wonderful performance for the final afternoon. Our music nights are going from strength to strength as we host brilliant musicians - highlights include world-class jazz artists and blues virtuosos. We also offer our usual weekly workshops for adults, children, Tales shows and Tales Big Day Out extravanganzas with guests. Finally, there’s a great chance for 13-21 year olds to come and experience our Youth Theatre with a taster weekend during June. We look forward to welcoming you to Chickenshed soon!

Shed Talks
Co-produced with
Five women meet on the beach in a bleak seaside town for an impromptu picnic lunch, seeking some laughs and gossip washed down with a glass or two. As the day progresses their friendship and shared experiences reveal devastating truths from the hidden corners of their lives. We realise that through their heartache and pain has come an unbreakable bond of strength, love and hope. This moving and dramatic piece has been developed with South Gwynedd Domestic Abuse Services and is based on interviews conducted with women as part of our outreach project, Survivors. In a searingly honest and poignant portrayal of what can all too often be untold stories, Chickenshed presents a powerful representation of the strength and power of survival. In The Absence of Silence interweaves excerpts of the women’s own words with multimedia to create an honest, at times brutal, portrayal of what can take place behind closed doors, and the lifeaffirming and positive truth of what is possible when the silence is broken. Warning: contains very strong language (spoken and projected) with content and themes which some audiences may find upsetting.
