Our mission is to create entertaining and outstanding theatre that celebrates diversity and inspires positive change.

Welcome to Chickenshed This summer season is extraordinarily diverse as we launch lots of new shows. Ranging from original and moving productions to funpacked shows and workshops for children, we hope Chickenshed offers something for everyone. Our lovely Studio Theatre will be hosting two beautiful productions: All I’ve Known is a revealing and uplifting picture of family life based on real interviews; and a visiting company will be performing Don’t Wake Me - an intimate show based on a mother and son’s struggles and triumphs to give him a meaningful life against all the odds. Both very much reflect Chickenshed’s spirit. Other highlights include a celebration of exciting theatre brought to you by our young people and students who have been working hard on their courses during the year, and which is only open to the public once a year, as well as the new Tales summer show and workshops to keep the little ones occupied during the holidays, plus much more for the whole family. And last but not least, there’s great entertainment with our comedy and music nights, which always prove popular and are so important to helping Chickenshed continue with our work. You’ll see we are launching our new-look brochure and logo – we hope you like it and would love to get your comments at feedback@chickenshed.org.uk or via our Facebook page or Twitter channel.

ALL I’VE

KNOWN Mum… Sorry, is it ok if I call you that? What else would you call me? That’s who I am.

Wed 1 – Sat 18 May Studio Theatre (running time TBC) Ages 15+ | £10 (£8 concs) Wed 1, Thu 2, Fri 3, Sat 4, Tue 7, Wed 8, Fri 10, Sat 11, Tue 14, Wed 15, Thu 16, Fri 17, Sat 18 7.30pm plus additional matinee performances at 1pm on Thu 16 and 3.30pm on Sat 18 Signed Performance: Fri 10 May 7.30pm Captioned Performance: Thu 16 May 7.30pm

When you’ve had a child from that young, and you go through so much with them, you don’t ever not think of them as yours. I remember the smell of him, the way he was and everything about him. And so it was amazing for him to come back. Inspired by her own childhood growing up in a family that fostered children over many years, writer and director Rachel Yates has interviewed people with their own stories to share. The result is a new play that weaves together excerpts from these interviews to create a backdrop for the story of a now grown-up son, with children of his own, who is ready to reconnect with the family that loved him deeply. A revealing and uplifting picture of family life told using Chickenshed’s characteristic physical style.
