daIly news… book based on castro talks due for release A book based on discussions with Cuban leader Fidel Castro is scheduled for release Wednesday in Havana and 13 other capitals, the government announced. "Our Duty Is To Fight" is a transcript of conversations between Castro and 117 intellectuals from 21 countries during the February 10 Book Fair of Havana. The conversations focused on environmental hazards and international politics. "It is a strong reflection on the dangers that threaten the planet and humanity itself," said a statement from the official Cubadebate website. Castro, 85, spoke for nine hours with writers and scholars at the book fair, where he called for a fight for peace without being "sold out to pessimism," local media reported. The attendees included Nobel Peace Laureate Adolfo Perez Esquivel, Brazilian theologian Frei Betto and Franco-Spanish journalist Ignacio Ramonet. The transcript was "revised and expanded" in Spanish and English, according to Cubadebate. It is set for simultaneous release in Latin American and Caribbean capitals, along with Washington, Madrid and Berlin. In February, Castro presented two volumes of his memoirs entitled "Time Guerrilla" tracing his life from infancy until 1958, when he succeeded in leading a revolution that turned Cuba into a communist country aligned with the Soviet Union. Castro's recollection of events is reported through conversations with journalist Katiuska Blanco. And "One Hundred Hours with Fidel," a book of conversations between Castro and Spanish journalist Ignacio Ramonet, was published in late 2006, just after the Cuban leader turned over power to his brother, Raul, maid a health crisis. Since then, Castro has published columns on global problems and two memoirs describing his childhood and years as a guerrilla leader during the Cuban revolution of the 1950s.
