SUMMARY OF RESEARCH Borobudur temple is a buddhist temple in Java, Indonesia and one of UNESCO's heritage sites. As a famous heritage site, it has a lot of tourist traffic at the monument and around the community. The purpose of this research is to identify what impacts of tourism has on the community and the monument. We chose to use Borobudur for our research because it is a good example of how tourism impacts heritage sites. For the community we will focus on the economy and culture of Borobudur. We are going to discuss about the impacts of tourism on the economic development. We are to find out about what tourism has brought to the society and how this has helped to improve or decline on its development. We are also going to discuss about the impacts of tourism on the culture of the community. We want to find out if there has been a decline in the cultural beliefs of the people due to the influence of tourism or if there has been strengthening in culture As for the monument, we will focus on the genius loci, structure quality and architecture significance of Borobudur. We are going to discuss about the impacts of tourism on the genius loci. We intend to find out if the place still holds its spirit or it has slowly faded away and if it has, we plan to find out about whether tourism has played a role in this or not. We are going to discuss about the impacts of tourism on the structural quality of the monument. We want to know if the number of tourist coming in and out of the temple affects the structural quality of the temple or not. We are going to discuss about the impacts of tourism on the architecture significance. In conclusion, the impacts of tourism will affect many aspects to the monument whether it being positive or negatively. Thus we must always put an emphasis on preserving the heritage and its overall meaning to its culture and society.
