ESEM: Thank you Starr for agreeing to be ExpoStyles Cover Music Artist Model. Starr: I was caught by surprise when you messaged me to be apart of the ExpoStyles Journey; so thank you, the pleasure is all mine. ESEM: Where did it all start for Starr Fisher? Are you the typical church girl? Starr: Well kinda… I was raised in a musical church family. My grand-parents were pastors; and my aunts, uncles and cousins laid the path out for me musically by going church to church to sing. But as I grew older, my artistic talent shifted into dance. A lot of people don't know this about me, but I wanted to be a dancer. I won a dance scholarship from the Dance Theater of Harlem, but unfortunately my growth stopped at the age of nine. Typical dancers are pretty tall, but I am a 4" giant that had to shift my dream towards the music industry. ESEM: Where did your musical platform began as a local performer? Starr: At the age of 15 we moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma. It was there that I entered a talent show sponsored by Channel 8. I was introduced to Jazz Hall of Fame's very own Mr. Dougie Earl Clark of S&R Productions. They asked me to be the lead singer in Mr. Clark's band; and that is where it all started for me as a professional performer. I also was the lead singer for Wall Street band at the age of 18. ESEM: What can we find Starr Fisher doing now? Starr: I currently do a lot of outdoor festivals, corporate parties and private events. I am a part of some non-profit organizations, and I also have my own charitable organization that I travel state to state and around the country promoting. I have been fortunate to do events for Mercedes, Porche and Coca Cola as well as some of the bigger casinos. I have some great projects in the works, so be on the look out for my group project entitled "The Royals", which includes some of our best local musical artists. ESEM: Thank you Starr for being apart of the ExpoStyles journey. Starr: Thank you for having me.

“A Natural Business Solution” The Black woman entrepreneur operates with a set of characteristics that make her predisposed to success in her business ventures. She is a natural born leader – able to stand as a pillar of strength and assertiveness when called upon. In addition, she is amazingly adaptable – able to quickly adjust to the unexpected obstacles of business. She makes lemonade from lemons; and keeps rolling with the punches. Lastly, she possesses the uncanny ability to operate with a sense of poise and dignity in extreme pressurized situations while being viewed through the scope of racism and sexism. It is this author’s opinion that God mixed some extra special ingredients together when he sat down to create the black woman. Ergo, it only stands to reason that when that Black woman decides to try her hand at entrepreneurship, she does it in such a way that puts her in a class all to her own. The Black woman’s potential in the world of business is almost limitless, and society need not underestimate her capabilities. Thank God for entrepreneurs; but more specifically, thank God for sistas.

Exclusive Interview by Chiku’ Williams ESEM: Thank you Nita for welcoming us into your lovely home to conduct your interview and capture images of you. Nita: It is definitely an honor and a blessing for me to do this, because no one has to ask you to do anything. I consider it a great deal that you even asked me to grace your cover. ESEM: Tell us a little about Nita Fruit. Where did your name originate? Nita: My real name is ONita Lavetta. I’m named after both of my grandmother's, Onita Bonner and Clara McHenry. My mother tells me that when I was born I was such a hairy baby that she called me Peaches. My Performer name was derived from that nickname. We pronounce fruit (Froo-ee) in French, but fruit is spelt the same in English, so people began to call me Nita Fruit. I have been many other things since then, but Nita Fruit is the one that stuck. ESEM: Where are you from? Nita: I was born and partially raised in Lawton, Oklahoma and Oklahoma City. ESEM: Are you the typical raised-in-thechurch-singing type of girl? Nita: Yes. I was raised in the church, and once they heard I could hold a tune in a bucket they put me in the choir and groups to perform. So, I have been doing this for a long time. ESEM: How long have you been on the platform as a local Artist in Oklahoma City? Nita: I have been performing for some time now, but 2008 is when I really started performing on a regular basis as Nita Fruit. ESEM: So, I hear you have a raido show; tell us about that. Nita: Yes, I do host a radio show, "It's a Lady's Perspective" every Monday CST 5p-6p tmiradio.com featured on a radio station in Texas. ESEM: Where is the next move for Nita Fruit? Nita: I'm looking forward to auditioning for some production companies, and I believe that the radio station will be taking off with great things happening for 2016. I'm also, excited to be releasing a music single soon. ESEM: We are looking forward to more to come with Nita Fruit, Thank you once again for taking the time out of your busy schedule to interview with us. Nita: My pleasure!

When it comes to my style, there are no rules in fashion. But since summer comes every year, there are a few styles I'm particularly fond of. All White One of my favorite styles is the ‘All White’ look. I adore the look of innocence in an all white crisp and clean style. You can leave it monotone from head to toe or throw in a pop of color with your shoes and accessory pieces. Wearing all white from head to toe is not limited to parties or special events; it can be worn as a casual and classy day out on the town or for a day to night look.

Prints and Patterns Playing with prints and patterns is also a great way to demonstrate individual styles. Whether going to work, church or attending a brunch; mixing and matching prints is a simple way to create fun and funky looks. From florals and stripes to stripes and polka dots, the combination options are literally endless when it comes to mixing prints and patterns.

Fashion Ti ps The Boho (Bohemian) Look This look is very comfortable and effortless. It’s a great go-to style when attending an outdoor concert, picnic or a day of shopping. It is also great for busy moms whose aim is comfort while remaining stylish. The boho look was a big hit among celebrities and others alike at Coachella’s 2015 event. The key pieces for this look range from very loose fringed dresses and tops paired with shorts and/or jeans with hats and head adornments.

SISTERHOOD BOND GW Photography (405)800-6706

The Urban Dictionary's definition of sisterhood is: A bond between two or more girls, not always related by blood. They always tell the truth, honor each other, and love each other like sisters. Our "Sistahood" is composed of all of this, and more. Although we are not related by blood, the bond we have developed is one like no other. I usually do not do well with women because of the bickering, backbiting and estrogen-filled issues that accompany our gender! And trust me, we have had our share of those common issues! Yet over time, we have come to realize and accept that we are all diverse, but somehow the same. God made us in His image, and He made us for each other. We are not perfect, but we love each other with God's perfection. Some of us have known each other since we were in elementary, while the others are new to our family. Regardless, the strength of our bond cannot be broken. No man, money or challenge can come between what we have now and forever! Nothing is too hard.

SHANA

SHAWN

"Ah Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you" (Jeremiah 32:17-18 NIV).

Sisterhood is a bond that cannot be broken. It is accepting each others' flaws and a commitment to remain in the relationship – no matter what. It is an assurance you will always be supported through the most difficult of times and celebrated in all of your achievements. My sisterhood is my family – with them I have a safe haven of strength and love. One thing I know for sure, as long as I live, my sisters have my back and will always be by my side.

I was blessed to be apart of this sisterhood, and for more reasons than I realized. Each one of these ladies possesses a quality and quirk that makes our union truly amazing. As the youngest in the group, I regularly receive prayer and sound advice from my more experienced sisters; which helps me grow daily. Our daily group chats that start off with exchanged “Good mornings” and prayer followed by lots of love and laughter have become ‘a must’ in my world. They have helped me come out of the shell I once lived in and embrace my uniqueness. I am thankful and truly blessed with friendships that evolved into a sisterhood and family bond that cannot be broken.

Many people can define what sistahood is to them, but what I have discovered is something more powerful and emotional as a relation to a natural brother. I am smack dab in the middle of six brothers. As the only girl, I had to acquire much of my learning from them, and what I could draw from other female family members. This bond of sistahood has strengthened otherwise weak areas in my life. We have developed lifelong friendships. We each have the ability to completely change negative moods and atmospheres by simply walking into a room. I can be myself with my sistahs without shame, embarrassment or concern. Together, we are a force to be reckoned with. The love I have for them is real, and will never waiver. Neither time or distance has an impact on our relationship, whenever we come together it is as if we were never apart. I will always and forever know who has my heart and best interest at heart. Ladies I love you and there is nothing you can do about it. Sistahood for life!

What is sisterhood to me? Sisterhood is having someone to rely on and having someone to always tell you the truth even if you would rather not listen. My sisters are my confidants. They know all of my secrets, yet not one of them sits in judgment. I truly feel blessed to have my sisters in my life.

BRIDGETTE

I always wanted a sister growing up; instead, I had two older brothers to keep me company and look after me. Today, I am so blessed to have a group of women who pray, cry, laugh, encourage, inspire and support one another. Although we have our own individual family lives to manage, we make it a point to come together for our ‘crew time’ in order to enjoy each other’s company. Sister-friends are relationships to cherish for a lifetime.

You Choose! By Pastor Pamela Wiley

With so many documented tragedies

and catastrophes in the media, it is hard at times to believe that there is any good going on in the world. Charles Dickens says it best in his novel A Tale of Two Cities, “It was the Best of times and the Worst of times”. Jesus reminds us in John 16:33 that we will experience tests, trials and tribulations in life, but to be of good cheer; I have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4). God is able to take a tragedy and turn it into triumph. He’s fully capable of taking what was meant for evil and turn it around for our good and His glory. He’s able to take what was meant to destroy us and place us in divine destiny. According to Isaiah 61:7, “Because you got a double dose of trouble and more than your share of contempt, your inheritance in the land will be doubled and your joy goes on forever.”

I choose "The Best of Times" – to focus on the positive and the possibilities that will attract God’s grace and favor. God will cause opportunity to find you. He has unexpected blessings waiting on you. God is shifting things in your favor. Because you have honored God, He will put you in a position you never could have attained on your own. It’s not just your education, your talent or the family you come from; it’s the hand of God shifting you to a new level of your destiny; but the choice is still yours. It’s time to choose! oseph Adams aka “SPUNK” is a 25-year old man who isn't new to the industry as a musician, but has been pursing his love for the art of music for quite some time now. Exclusive interview by Chiku' Williams ESEM: Thank you Rhyan for taking the time out of your schedule to talk with ExpoStyles. Where did your love for music begin? Spunk: Thank you for having me. My love for music started when I was about 4 years old when I began playing the drums in the local church. In middle school I started playing the clarinet band, but later switched to the saxophone. I simply fell in love with the sound of the saxophone. I enjoy the experience of how the sound of the sax makes people feel. ESEM: Tell us where the name SPUNK came from. Spunk: Spunky Spontaneous is my alter ego as a musician. Several years ago when I started playing for a band, it seemed I was always the most outgoing person. Because I spontaneously and randomly experimented with music, they began to call me "SPUNK". ESEM: Who or what inspired you to start performing outside of the church as a musician? Spunk: While in high school it was not unusual for me to perform at various restaurants. Somewhere along the way, the door was open for me to participate in an ‘Open Mic’ event. It was there that I met Nit Fruit (Froo-ee). After I performed, many of the older saxophone players encouraged me to start playing as a musician. That’s when I actually started to play with other bands around town to get my name out there. ESEM: Are you currently following your dreams by being a Saxophonist? Spunk: I can say that I am on the right path of living my dream as a Saxophonist to travel the world to spread my sound. I am passionate about music. So yes, I am following my dreams. ESEM: What would you say to encourage someone to follow their dreams in life? Spunk: First, in order to follow a dream you have to be passionate about it. If there is no passion present, don't even waste your time doing it. But if you have a dream and you have passion, never give up on it. Place yourself in the right position for opportunities to come your way to accomplish your dreams.

Phillip LaVell Harris (a.k.a Velly Vel – “Big Belly-n-All”) was raised in the small community of Bristow, Oklahoma. After

repeatedly taking center stage in the elementary school cafeteria and winning several talent competitions, it was apparent to everyone that he was born to entertain. His comedic genius and ability to make light of sensitive subjects, like racism, begin to emerge in his early teens. His humor and husky figure earned the nickname, Velly Vel “Big Belly-n-All”. Winning a statewide jingle contest for the ‘Don’t Lay That Trash on Oklahoma” campaign with his song, “Clean Up the Streets” solidified his career as a professional entertainer. However, life in the fast lane landed him in prison for 2½ years. Upon release, Velly Vel began mentoring at-risk youth in an effort to reduce gang violence, drug abuse, and teen pregnancy. To date, he has coached over 600 kids. He currently holds the position as the Director of Fundraising Projects for the United Black Family Scholarship Foundation and founder of the Save Our Youth Foundation (SOY). Throughout it all, his passion for comedy never waned.
