It's the dream we carry in secret that something miraculous will happen, that it must happen that time will open that the heart will open that doors will open that the rockface will open that spring will gush – that the dream will open, that one morning we will glide into some little harbour we didn't know was there. A chill

ANd NAtuRAl way

of LI fe Editorial

How often do you take the time to breathe deeply, close your eyes, use your senses and just enjoy life? Just “being” instead of “doing”. Chances are your answer is “all too rarely.” In our busy everyday lives where obligations, work, hobbies and an active social life are juggled at an ever more hectic pace, it is very easy to lose sight of what really matters. The things that really mean something when it comes right down to it. Time for family, contact with nature, time to eat healthy and tasty food along with your nearest and dearest. Quiet time for contemplation. A wild struggle with the waves on a surfboard which sets the pulse racing and the heart pumping. Tender midnight hours under an apple tree with someone you love. Time to watch your children play and grow up. These values formed the basis for us when we started ChillNorway in 2004. We two sisters wanted to create our own everyday life together. With our clothes, we wanted to promote a healthy and natural ideal for women, far removed from the merciless, stick-thin yardstick of the catwalk. And there was a husband who took a chance on us and jumped off the career carousel to build up what has become a family business today with fertile roots stretching far beyond Norway’s borders. ChillNorway became the name for women and children, who want to live, love and enjoy life with no boundaries. In soft, natural materials and in designs that unite the practical with the beautiful. Chill Living is the message behind the clothes. It is about finding the time for the small things in life. It is about daring to reject the things that don’t mean anything. In this first edition of the magazine, we would like to bring you into our world. To Larkollen where the clothes are made and where we live the life we dreamed about. A life in contact with nature and family, with time for creativity, play and enjoyment. We would like to show you our autumn collection in the surroundings in which we live and where the clothes are made. This will help us reveal something of the soul of ChillNorway to you. Tell our own story. Our goal is not to grow too big, but to create something that means something. ChillNorway is currently represented in 10 countries and has 250 dealers. We will now continue to give 100 per cent quality to those who are a part of our world and enjoy life at the same time while continuing to do what we love best: design clothes that are good to live in. We hope that this magazine inspires you to discover your own way to Chill Living.

CoNtRibUToRs –What is Chill Living for you? Maria Louise Rognerud – product manager with a great deal of media experience and an initiative taker and project leader for this magazine. A nice cup of tea with my eldest daughter when she is full of life coming home from school. Time to listen. Time to make a change. To decorate with flowers from your own garden. To hunt for bargains at a flea market with a good friend. For a spontaneous dinner with good friends. Days off with the sea breeze in your hair at the summer house. For me Chill Living is about having enough peace and balance in life to be able to enjoy life and be present. Moments when I realize that I am lucky to be living this exact life.

Marianne Jemtegård – fashion editor and DJ who lives and breathes Chill Living Magazine. Chill Living for me is like getting on a plane to a new, exotic destination. It is listening to a whole album from beginning to end on a light, blue midsummer night. It is relaxing under the duvet with a warm, four-legged best friend after a long walk. It is going to visit Line and Thomas’ world at Larkollen. Chill Living is everything I want to spend more time on right now.

Sara Martin – the stylist/makeup artist who styled our two beautiful models. Summer, sun and beach life. I like long late days on long white beaches blazing sun and rough, salty waves. I like to finish these kinds of days with a glass of rose and some bbq with salad. Then early to bed and up with the birds. Enjoying the early morning hours with strong coffee and a little internet surfing.

Christian Houge – is an art photographer who has taken all of the many, fabulous pictures for Chill Living Magazine. I am concerned with questioning what I experience, rather than finding all the answers. Different exhibitions at galleries and museums in Norway and abroad has allowed me to share my curiosity on Mans condition with others. ChillNorway is a family business and I am Thomas’ brother and I always can be counted on when it comes to family.

Anna-Julia Granberg – is a graphic designer, photographer and illustrator. She designed Chill Living Magazine. Floating weightlessly under water, looking at the clouds from above, getting the smell of a horse, lying with my nose in the fur of a purring cat. Seeing an exhibition, going to a café, enjoying a concert at the Opera. Putting on my dancing shoes and dance! Filling my lungs with air and sing out – LOUD! Having one of my best friends as a colleague. Taking fresh air and clean water for granted.

Hanne Buxrud – Freelance food writer. Lives from and for food.

Mors Cafe, Moss Dyre Nursery, Moss

Chill Living for me is so much, it could be the smell of autumn, like heather, mountains, a newly lit fire or wet stone covered in moss. Or to bare rock faces, with a pile of newspapers and a picnic basket, with the sound of travel radio and the splashing of the waves. It can also be a feeling, like not having any plans at all, a whole empty Saturday like a blank page.

Hurray for the seasons! And hurray for the seasonal bounty nature brings! Delicious ingredients come out, pop up and are shot, picked, fished, pulled up and eaten after a little preparation… Simple things can make a great impression. Like root vegetables. Straight out of the ground, washed, peeled and baked in a hot oven with olive oil, salt and pepper. Maybe accompanied by fish, poultry or meat. Isn’t it remarkable how the delicious sweetness comes out when these bulbs and roots get some time in the heat? Autumn is the time for food that warms us, gathers us around the table and makes the evenings more pleasant. Invite someone to supper for warm soup. Take some homemade bread to a friend or make a quick, autumn dessert. Choose from nature’s pantry and enjoy autumn for all it’s worth. From your own garden or from the abundant cabinets and counters in your local store.

Mushroom and bacon pie for 6-8 people Base: 3½ dl wheaten meal ½ cup of sour milk (ca 1½ dl) ½ ts salt ca 2 tablespoons of cold water Filling: 1 packet of frozen spinach (about 300 g) 160 g broccoli Mixed herbs 5 spring onions, chopped 5 eggs 1 cup of sour cream 100 g mushrooms 1 packet of bacon Marious herbs, chopped Salt and pepper

Mussels with an Asian twist

Heat the oven to 200oC. Mix all the ingredients for the pie dough in a food processor until they are soft. Put it in the fridge while you prepare the rest. Get a tall springform cake tin, approx 21 cm i diameter, oil it and roll out the dough thinly and make it large enough to fall over the edge when you lift it over the tin. Press down the edges. Prick it with a fork and cut away most of the excess dough. Leave a small amount hanging over the edge as it shrinks when it is cooked. Pre-bake it for approx 10 minutes. Brush the base with a little egg white as soon as you take it out of the oven. Put the spinach into a pan and heat it until it “melts”. Cool it down and squeeze the water out of the spinach with your hands. Fry the bacon and break into bits. Fry the mushrooms in the bacon fat. Beat the eggs in a bowl, add the sour cream and put in the spinach, broccoli florettes, chopped herbs, spring onion, mushrooms and bacon. Sprinkle on salt and freshly-ground pepper. Mix well. Pour into the pre-baked pie, turn down to 180oC and bake for 50-60 minutes.

For 4 people 2 nets of mussels 2 tablespoons of butter 2 shallots, finely chopped 2 stalks of celery, chopped 2 cloves of garlic, finely chopped 2 bay leaves 2 sprays of thyme 2 dl white wine (if you don’t have it, use fish stock and some squeezed lemon juice) Fresh parsley 4 dl light coconut milk 1/2 ts turmeric 1/4 ts saffron salt and pepper Wash and scrub the mussels well. Remove the beards and throw away the ones that are gone off. If some have opened, tap lightly on them and see if they close. If they don’t close again, then throw these out too. Put the butter in a large pan at medium heat. Add the shallots and celery and let them sizzle lightly without browning for 1-2 minutes. Add the garlic, thyme and bay leaves. Cook for one more minute. Add the mussels and wine (stock) along with the chopped parsley. Taste with salt and freshly-ground pepper and turn up the temperature. Put on a lid and leave to cook until all the shells have opened, 4-5 minutes approx.Stir a little now and again. Remove all shells that haven’t opened. Take the shells out of the pan and set aside. Drain off the sauce and rinse 2/3 of the shells. Add the juice along with the coconut milk, saffron and turmeric to a saucepan. Heat to near boiling point. Add the shells and the shell contents. Serve with parsley and perhaps some delicious, rustic bread. Tip! You can of co urse have fish pieces in this soup too. Cod, salmon, pollock, monk fish, hali but...

Raspberryand blueberry clafoutis This dessert is so simple and so unbelievably good. Clafoutis is a luxury version of pancake batter without the boring pancake frying part. If you would like the Rolls Royce version, add a little Calvados to the mixture. You can also make it in muffins tins, even if they look a little strange when they are ready. Even if you would like a little extra “oomph, add a little icing sugar into a tea strainer and drizzle it lightly over. Served with vanilla ice cream, vanilla-flavoured kesam, natural yoghurt or whipped cream. Up to 6 people 400 g berries, raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, cherries. You can of course use frozen berries. 100 g flour 4 dl milk 50 g melted butter (can be omitted) A dash of Calvados (if desired, and you have some around) 4 eggs 150 g sugar Seeds from 1/2 vanilla sticks A pinch of salt Set the oven to 200. Butter a pie dish or any tray with muffin moulds. You can use both if you have a small pie dish. Mix the eggs and milk. Add the melted butter and then add the flour to it. Stir until the mixture is free of lumps. Divide the berries into the moulds and pour the mixture over it. Add the rest of the berries so that they sink down into the dough a little. Bake for 35-40 minutes. Before serving, sift over a little icing sugar. Serve lukewarm.

– For us, this was a natural addition to the ChillNorway brand, since everything we do is built around the same, down to earthy Chill Living lifestyle, designer Line explains. – There are of course a lot of products that we could include that also include this lifestyle, but we found that tea was a very natural link to the situations one often associates with ChillNorway. We now have a tea for most occations, if that is that first cup of morning tea or that relaxing breather in the middle of the day when you just need a little extra dose of calmness in your life. It should always be easy to reach for a bag of high quality ChillNorway tea. Just like we do!

ChillN Tea is of course organic and will be introduced to the marked during AW 2011 through the ChillNorway partners. So the next time you go clothes shopping, make sure to pick up some tea as well! ChillN tea will come in nine different flavors ranging from “Chilln in the morning” with Earl Gray, ChillN in the evening with Green Tea, and of course CHillN detox during the day. Larkollen is a whole universe of it’s own In ChillNorway’s world there is enough space to live, play and enjoy life. Designer Line and her family let creativity have free rein here while recharging their batteries with a dip in the refreshing seawater beating against the rocks right outside. Or relax with a nice cup of our own ChillNorway tea in the light of the summer nights. This idyllic seaside refuge for the whole family at Larkollen has become the family headquarters, and there is room in our hearts and home for whoever happens to be passing. Line and her family are open and welcoming, and the door is always open to friends and neighbours. The house has been decorated in keeping with local tradition by Line and Thomas, and the idyllic, white house is filled with the smell of freshly baked bread, the sound of children laughing and elaborate sketches for next year’s ChillNorway collection. It is easy to recognize designs and clothes in the harmonious and beautiful surroundings, which are as personal as can be. The house and the garden is a never-ending project for the creative nuclear family, and a safe haven in their eternal quest for harmony, inspiration and breathing space in a busy week.

BUSTLING CREATIVITY Designer Line’s wall of inspiration is full of surprises. t e x t : Ma R ia N N e J e m t e g å R d

Line and Nanna´s world has room for a warm philosophy of life and soft, lovely fabrics. ChillNorway’s collections are always drawn by hand, and they are created in a sphere full of colourful fabric samples, inspirational magazine cuttings and cute family pictures in wonderful harmony. The result is a deeply personal collection that develops with the seasons and international trends. Their mood board provides inspiration for new creations, and is constantly changing. Cuttings from exotic magazines discovered on the latest surfing trip to southern climates share space with sketches drawn in the twilight of a Larkollen summer’s evening. These are some of the things we found on their wall of inspiration right now.

The motifs on the clothes all have hidden cute m e ss a g e s .
