NEWS Boston Marathon to Become an Annual Event? Cllr Richard Austin, Chairman, Boston Marathon Association Executive Committee would like to record his thanks to Dr Harish Kurup for coming to me with the idea of staging a marathon at the same time as the one in the USA. In particular I have been most impressed by the determination by which he has pursued every detail of this complex project despite his busy professional life at the Pilgrim Hospital. His great energy and vision ensured that after only a few months the marathon executive committee was able to stage a very successful event on time, and on budget. “When he first mentioned the idea to me in October I did not think that it could be done by 17th April. Nor did I think that it would be possible to stage such a successful event first time. Many sections of our community became involved and, without exception, everyone who was approached to help did so with an enthusiasm that made me proud to be a Bostonian. We have to be grateful to many people and they all need our thanks. I have every confidence that the Boston Marathon (UK) will now become an annual event that will grow and grow. We will look back at it in years to come as an event that will enhance the lives of many people, runners, marshals and spectators alike. It also has the potential to enhance the standing of the borough throughout the UK.” It will also strengthen our ties with our daughter metropolis in the USA.

Giant pumpkins Something humongous will be taking form on Boston’s allotments this year. The muckmunching monsters will slurp their way through pints of beer dregs as they swallow up the ground around them. There’s no need to run screaming for the hills – these are not triffids, but giant pumpkins. The world record, which stands at 2,323.7lbs – about as much as a small car - is unlikely to be shattered, but some unnaturally large specimens will be produced. Boston’s giant pumpkin growing challenge has been organised for town allotment holders by the growers themselves. As well as attempting to grow the biggest pumpkin they will also be raising money for the Pilgrim Hospital’s stroke unit. Allotments holders from Toot Lane, Willoughby Road, Wyberton West Road, Witham Way, Spilsby Road and Cuckoo Land will be involved in the grow-off using specially-bred giant pumpkin seeds. The challenge has been sponsored by Johnson’s Garden Centre, which has offered £100 in
gardening vouchers to the top grower. After the weigh-in, the winning pumpkin will go on display at the garden centre. Visitors will be invited to pay £1 for the stroke unit to guess its weight, with the winner receiving a special king or queen of the giant pumpkin guessers certificate. The giant will then meet its end – sliced and diced and sold as soup – and pumpkin will also be on the menu for a week at the Lime Restaurant at Boston College where catering students will prepare and serve it at a special pumpkin awards dinner in October – all proceeds for the stroke unit. There will be a big display of pumpkins at the college Allotment holder Paul Collingwood has previously grown a variety called Atlantic Giant – the granddaddy of all today’s modern giant pumpkins and their seeds – to 50 lbs. A long way off the world record, but still a monster fruit. His secret was to grow it on top of a huge mound of horse muck, keep it well watered and fed with beer dregs
collected from local pubs. Top tips from the world record holder includes keeping them at the perfect temperature, giving them continuous food and water, protecting their delicate skins from drying and cracking and covering them at night for warmth. Some of his contenders even graft two vines together to double the amount of nutrients fed to the single chosen pumpkin, all others growing on the plant having been sacrificed in the name of the big one.
Street drinker first prosecution in country A man seen persistently consuming alcohol in Boston’s drink-control zone appeared in court on Monday in a case which is a first in the country. Paul Homewood (66), of 5 St Leonard’s Close, Boston, admitted breaching a community protection notice (CPN) issued after he continuously ignored warnings after drinking alcohol in the town’s Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) area. Boston magistrates heard he was seen drinking in and around the town centre on no less than 13 occasions between January 13, 2015 – the day after the PSPO came into effect – and March 30, 2016. On the first occasion he was sent a letter outlining what he had done wrong and giving notice of the action Boston Borough Council could take. Further incidents followed when Mr Homewood was seen drinking alcohol at the bus station, near PC World, outside the Len Medlock Centre, near the railway station and a letter sent after he was seen drinking in a public area on June 22 advising that anti-social behaviour legislation could be applied. He was again seen drinking in the open on July 15 and was given a letter warning that if he carried on he would receive a CPN. He was again seen drinking within the PSPO area on August 9 and August 23 and the CPN was served on him. He was seen drinking in the PSPO area on October 19 and October 22. Mr Andrew Goldsborough, prosecuting, said Homewood was then seen on Christmas Eve drinking near Boston Stump and new information had been received that he was seen drinking in the PSPO area again as recently as March 30. Homewood was given a 12-month conditional discharge. There was an application for legal costs of £300 and investigation costs of £1,096. Homewood, who is on benefits, was ordered to pay £100 costs and a £15 victim surcharge within 14 days and told to undergo an assessment and any other intervention necessary from Addaction for six months. His daughters said he was also seeing DART in Boston – Drugs and Alcohol Recovery Team.

Each issue Peter Bedford, leader of Boston Borough Council, discusses the important topics in and around Boston
Peter’s Notes
I
am a Boston Utd fan, so at the time of writing this I share the disappointment of the team sonearly reaching the promotion play-offs for the second season running. It was heartbreaking for all when Boston Utd went down 3-2 on aggregate against North Feriby Utd in the semi-finals, having won the home leg 2-0. I am ever the optimist, so perhaps it will be third-time lucky next season. Despite this set-back a new dawn is breaking for both the club and the town and borough.
THE NEW QUADRANT
DEVELOPMENT
Cllr Bedford at the con trols of a JCB breaking ground on the new Quadrant developm ent.
New Quadrant development I had the honour and privilege of breaking ground on the site of the new Quadrant development at Wyberton. It wasn’t the first time I had been asked to break ground on a new development, but it was the first time I had been asked to do it at the controls of a JCB! This development is different. For one thing, when complete – and there will be a Q2 stage – it will provide families in the area with 500 new homes, many affordable, together with supporting infrastructure such as shops and commercial opportunities bringing local jobs plus a financial contribution towards expansion of children’s education facilities at Wyberton Primary School and a contribution towards expanding health facilities within south Boston. It will also see a new home built for Boston Utd – a modern stadium complete with community facilities. And, probably most importantly of all for many, the very start of a distributor road for Boston, eventually bringing relief for many who currently have to sit in traffic queues trying to cross town. The first stage, following the ground breaking, will be to build a new roundabout on the A16 Spalding Road to allow access to both construction sites on
either side of the road. There will be a traffic management scheme in place on the A16 for 25 weeks, but traffic disruption will be kept to a minimum by working on one side of the roundabout at a time. There will be a 30mph speed limit in operation during the first phase of the work and temporary traffic lights during the final phase. This new roundabout will link through to London Road and eventually through to the A52, meaning a large volume of traffic, especially commercial traffic, currently having to come through the town centre will be able to go around it.
Business is booming! All of this comes a time when our market, still one of the best, is ever popular and full, Iceland has chosen Boston for a branch of its new chain of Food Warehouse shops and Poundworld will also be moving onto the shopping park off Horncastle Road. The new Chain Bridge pub is coming on in leaps and bounds and I am so pleased to see that a new tiling and bathroom business has moved into the former Kimes wet fish shop under the Assembly Rooms.

Advice
Six reasons
why volunteering is good for you
I
t’s official - volunteering is good for both you and those you are trying to help. June 1st – 12th marks the 32nd anniversary of volunteers week. An annual event which has been extended this year to include an additional five days enabling more people than ever to take part and more time to celebrate the difference to individuals and communities that volunteers make every day, from helping to solve problems, spending time with those who may otherwise be lonely and contributing to a range of other essential services and support. According to a survey from Citizens Advice, devoting your time to others makes you less stressed, increases your self esteem, enhances your job prospects and helps you cope with issues in your own life.
“Helping people who need support enables you to put your own problems in to perspective.” Susan, a volunteer for Citizens Advice agrees.
Giving up y our for a charit time y or community pr will transfo oject rm y life and the our lives of others.
Here are six reasons to give up your time for others.
1 - You’ll gain perspective We can all be a little self -centred at times, but giving up your time to help those in need is a good way of forgetting your own, smaller problems, in fact nine out of 10 Citizens Advice volunteers feel better able to deal with issues in their own lives as a result of volunteering.
2 - You’ll kindle community spirit However old or young you are, it’s great to feel involved in the area where you live. 90% of volunteers surveyed felt more engaged in their community.
5 - Boost your CV A little
v long wa olunteering co y to get uld go a ting career p ath – fo you on a new u r out of the Citiz five in ens said the Advice survey y’d incre as their em ployabil ed ity.
3 - You’ll make new friends
6 - You’ll bust stress
Volunteering is a great way to meet likeminded people from a diverse range of backgrounds. You might even fall in love. John a volunteer with Citizens Advice met his wife Carol through working together. “ I used to enjoy my previous job but volunteering changed my life. I feel that I benefited more than most as we now have two lovely daughters “
More than half (60%) of the volunteers surveyed found they felt less stressed after giving up their time to help others and 47% of volunteers say volunteering has improved their physical health and fitness. Karen Warner, Training & Volunteer Development Manager at Citizens Advice Mid Lincolnshire said “ We are the UK’s largest advice Charity and volunteers can enjoy a range of roles from receptionist & advice - giving to fundraising & PR work. We are always ready to welcome new volunteers in to our teams at Boston and Sleaford so if you have a few hours to spare and want to make a real difference in your local community please get in touch”
4 - You’ll learn new skills Volunteering will expand your horizons in all sorts of unexpected ways. You will gain new skills and increase self-esteem and confidence. According to the Make a Difference day survey, ICM Research, 9% of men and 8% of women said that volunteering has improved their sex life and 25% of people who volunteer more than 5 times a year say it has helped them to lose weight!
So what’s stopping you?

Challenges for Owner Managed Businesses
As a business progresses through its life cycle it faces many opportunities and challenges - we are here to assist you at each step.
Starting up A business can operate as a sole trader, partnership or limited company. Which you choose depends on your individual circumstances. Despite the narrowing of tax benefits for limited companies compared to sole trader/partnerships this structure still provides limited liability, essential in certain business sectors. You will need to consider if VAT registration is appropriate. Record keeping is also an essential part of a business as it moves into the growth stage. Growth At this stage your business could require external financing or need to improve IT systems to fulfil its potential.
If employing staff, a PAYE scheme will need to be registered together with other regulatory requirements including Real Time Information (RTI), national minimum/living wage and pension auto enrolment. It is a legal requirement to have written details of employment for every employee within their first eight weeks. You may need to re-evaluate earlier decisions at this point. Maturity Your business is doing well. To help prolong this stage, you need to keep everyone motivated. One tax efficient way could
be through an employee share scheme, incentivising key employees by offering them a share in the business dependent on targets being met. Decline Any business could be challenged by falling sales, profits and/or negative cash flow. Preparing management accounts/ projections is essential at all stages of a business’ life cycle but most important at this point. Ensuring these are produced in a timely fashion will give your business its best chance to turn around. Exit You may seek a sale whilst the business is performing or are perhaps be looking at a succession plan. You need to consider business structure as different tax rules could alter the attractiveness to a prospective purchaser. Early advice is essential to ensure the correct structure is in place so that you understand the exit process and the tax costs involved.
For help and advice in overcoming these challenges please call Sarah Clyde on 01205 310250 or email sarah.clyde@duntop.co.uk

retty summer shoes have an ugly side: heel pain and foot cramps. Fortunately, simple remedies can provide sweet relief. Treat your feet well with these easy remedies and pampering tips.
MASSAGE 1 Coat your palms with a thin layer of moisturiser or oil. Look for something infused with a circulation-boosting ingredient, such as peppermint, pine oil, camphor, or rosemary. 2 Use long stroking motions. Slowly massage the sole of one foot with both thumbs, starting behind the toes and moving toward the heel. Apply extra pressure along the arch and at the ball of the foot, two places that are especially prone to tightness. 3 Grip the foot with both hands. Gently twist your hands from side to side as if you’re wringing a towel. This may help remove the pain that can develop after hours of standing. End the massage by gently pulling and releasing each toe. 4 Repeat on the other foot.
STRENGTHENING EXERCISES 1 Stand barefoot on a wooden or tile floor. Place a small towel in front of you, with its edge underneath your toes. 2 Scrunch up your toes to grip the towel, pulling it toward you, then release. 1. Bring down any swelling with a soak. Soak feet in a mixture of water, a dozen ice cubes, six drops of tea-tree oil, and rosemary leaves (or use a store-bought tea tree–oil soak). Submerge one foot for 30 seconds, remove from water, then rub vigorously with a towel. Repeat with the other foot, and keep soaking until the swelling subsides. While all soaks help soften skin, certain ones also exfoliate dead skin cells, making feet smoother. 2. Soften your feet with a scrub. Frequent exfoliating is not just about looking good: Thickly callused skin can crack, leading to pain and infections. Pumice-based pastes can swiftly eliminate scaly skin, keeping feet soft for longer. If you prefer scrubs, go for a salt scrub with added oils to help hydrate. Avoid razors and callus scrapers, which can break the skin and cause infection. 3. Hydrate the skin with a cream. Foot creams are generally thicker and more viscous than body formulas because they deliver more moisture. The best ones hydrate and soften with petrolatum, glycerin, hyaluronic acid, and shea butter, so make sure one Gently does it of these is at the top of the ingredient list. Energy providers
MARTIN LEWIS
The big six energy providers – British Gas, EDF, Eon, Npower, Scottish Power and SSE – have now announced price cuts to their standard tariff
T
hese changes are piddly, paltry, tiny, irrelevant and, ultimately, ignorable. Even after these cuts of roughly £30 a year, without any question you are BEING RIPPED OFF – typically by over £300 a year. If you’re detecting a sense of frustration in my writing, you are correct. I’ve been banging on about this for over a decade, yet still 70% of the UK population are on these damn awful tariffs. So before I get into the “whats” and “hows”, let me prove why you need to listen.
1
IT’S QUICK AND EASY TO SWITCH Slashing the amount you pay for energy really isn’t difficult. It takes minutes to find your cheapest, then it’s switched over in 17 days. I got four newish members of my team to do a comparison and on average it took 5 minutes 52 seconds. Those who worry about switching, don’t – it’s the same pipes, gas, meter and safety – the only thing that changes is the price and customer service.
2
USE A COMPARISON SITE BUT DO IT THE RIGHT WAY As your saving and your cheapest depends on where you live and what you use, there’s no one winner. Plug your details into a comparison site and it’ll show your best deal. To do this, you need your address, your current tariff and your usage. The best usage to put in is your Kilowatt hours, if not that, then your annual cost, if not then monthly cost. If you don’t have any info – just guess!
Quick Q&A “I’ve only got electricity, can I save?” There are cheap deals that allow electricity-only switching. Someone on a standard tariff paying £1,000/year would pay about £750/year with the cheapest. Again, just do a comparison, same for economy 7.
While you may not get the perfect result, if you’re on a standard tariff you’ll save substantially. To do a comparison you can use my www. CheapEnergyClub.com or, alternatively, you can use any www.ofgem.gov.uk approved comparison site, but, if so, do watch for two things. - Ensure it searches all tariffs Some comparison sites by default will only show you the tariffs that they get paid for. This filters out some of the cheapest deals. Make sure when you’re doing a comparison you’ve selected the option to see all the results, that way you’ll get to see the best deals. - Beware personal projections if you’re on a fixed tariff When doing a comparison, most comparison sites follow the regulators’ guidance and show your ‘personal projection’, which is effectively your average energy cost over the next year. This is normally fine, but is nonsense for anyone on a fixed tariff ending within 12 months – something I’ve campaigned against, to little avail. For example, if your current fix costs £800 a year and ends in six months, and after you’ll then pay £1,200 a year, as you’ll be on the energy firm’s standard tariff, the personal projection say you’ll pay £1,000 in a year – the cost averaged over 12 months. So if the market’s cheapest deal is £900 a year, the results will tell you to switch and save £100. Yet do it now and for the first six months you’ll actually be paying more, not less. You need to see both prices to make a decision, which www.cheapenergyclub.
By Martin Lewis @moneysavingex pert co.uk does. Comparethemarket.com and energyhelpline.com have options to see both as well. - Check customer service feedback too. It’s not all about pure price, service counts. It may be worth paying a little more for one with a good service record; Ovo is relatively cheap for many people with a good track record. Most comparison sites include some service listings.
3
IF YOU DON’T WANT TO CHANGE SUPPLIER, CHANGE TARIFF. Many confuse changing tariffs with changing companies, but you don’t necessarily have to. For example, at the time of writing this, if you’re on Npower’s standard tariff, which on typical usage is £1,110/year, you can switch to its cheapest 12 month fix, which is actually one of the market’s cheapest at £781/year – saving £320. So at the very least do a comparison and if you really don’t want to switch (not a big deal, but some don’t like it) at least move to your supplier’s cheapest. It’s worth noting some firms also operate under more than one name, for example British Gas is also Scottish Gas and Sainsbury’s Energy. Also some big suppliers offer far cheaper deals via ‘collective switches’ through local councils or comparison sites. So you may find you can save £100s and stay just where you are – but never sign up to a collective switch that doesn’t offer a full market comparison as part of it.
“I’m on prepay (key or card meter) – can I switch?”
“I’m £100s in credit with my energy firm, will I get it back if I leave?”
Yes. Someone with typical use on a standard prepay tariff pays £1,163/ year - the cheapest is £1,050/year, so a comparison and switch will help. Yet a normal billed meter paying fixed monthly direct debits is far, far cheaper. So if you can, it’s also worth considering if you can change to a normal billed meter, where usage is measured, and you’re billed after.
It should give you this money once you’ve switched. Many do it automatically, but make sure you ask if not. They used to operate a ‘don’t ask, don’t get’ policy, so if you’ve switched previously, it may be worth calling your old supplier to check. If you’re in debt you can usually switch, unless the debt’s very large – though you still have to pay it back what you owe. www.simplyboston.co.uk | SIMPLY BOSTON | 17

ollywiggle Cottage is a charming 3 bedroom Victorian cottage in the popular coastal village of Heacham available for short breaks and holidays. The cosy cottage built in 1882 sleeps 5 in 3 bedrooms (king, double & single) plus we have a cot for a baby. We welcome well behaved dogs and have tried to supply everything you will need for babies and pets
The Local Area
- travel cot, high chair, baby monitor, dog crate, dog bowls etc. On sunny days the south facing enclosed garden is a great place to relax with table and chairs for 6 as well as a BBQ. Or on those winter nights you can warm up in front of the open fire. There is also complementary wifi & parking for 2 vehicles. All prices include a full clean before and after your visit as well as linen and towels - you will just need your bikini and beach towels!
Heacham became popular as a seaside resort with the Victorians due to the opening of the railway between King’s Lynn and Hunstanton in the early 1860s. North Beach has an amusement arcade, a cafe and a fish bar. There are also beach huts available for hire. Both beaches have public toilet facilities. South Beach has its own cafe, which serves meals throughout the year and sells beach goods. The beaches at Heacham are situated on the east banks of The Wash; this means it is one of the few beaches in eastern England where the sun sets over the sea instead of over the land. Many say Heacham village is the largest village in the UK and has all the facilities you would need on your doorstep – Tesco Local, Co-Op, Indian restaurant, Fish and Chip shop, cycle hire, 3 pubs and the Coasthopper bus route stops just 30 seconds from the front door if you do not wish to travel by car to see all the sights of the coast.

Family life
It’s All Childs Play With Father’s Day celebrated this month in the UK, America and Canada, June is a time for making a special effort for the father figures in our life. Across the globe, children in homes, nurseries and schools will be lovingly making cards and gifts to let their dad’s know just how special they are. Wonderful as these glued and crafted creations are, you can’t beat the warm glow that you get from quality family time together. And this is the rub, as time is a rare commodity with many adults and children leading such busily planned lives. Although technology and mobile phones help keep us connected they also hamper our ability to talk with, listen to and notice our children. You only have to people watch to see the insulating bubbles created by an intimate or rapturous phone conversation. Spotting games on car journeys have been replaced with films and computer games such that the journey has become something to ‘get through’ rather than an exciting adventure in its own right.

Watch some families and you get the impression of family members orbiting each other like planets, or worse still distant solar systems!
Working together
Family Life
This got me thinking about just how important it is for children to “...our fathers, boug receive the anchored and undivided ht up on attention of a father figure. A thought mottos like ‘good th ings crystallised by having witnessed my come to those that wait’ husband and son working in unison or ‘nothing worth doing on an epic solar system homework ever came easy’...” project this weekend! Like any space mission they faced challenges, the biggest being how to get the lights in the papier Mache planets to shine through the layered paper? However, it was these challenges and their problem solving reminding potential that bought me of the importance of us them together as a team, experiencing and sitting with investigating, exploring and challenges and discomfort, as out discovering. In the case of my of adversity comes innovation. For our son’s homework, faced with the challenge fathers, bought up on mottos like ‘good of using the specially purchased battery things come to those that wait’ or ‘nothing powered lights without removing all the worth doing ever came easy’, this would layers of papier Mache, the solution was to not have been a problem but for children create a magical back lit wall, star studded nowadays, the speed and realism of with swirling pin pricked lights. The technology have created an expectation finished project was all the more dramatic of instant gratification and an anathema to and effective for this twist in design, boredom.
What then is the answer this Father’s Day?

Author of ‘Geek Dad: Awesomely Geeky Projects and Activities for Dad’s and Kids to Share’ Ken Denmead explains ‘most “parenting” books aren’t about things you can do with your kids [but] things to do to your kids’. The answer lies in finding riveting activities that you can enjoy playing together.
Funky experiments Having just delivered training on the wonders of using messy play, everyday objects and natural treasures to bring science to life, I for one can vouch for the allure of

experiments. Let them help you recreate the vinegar and bicarbonate of soda volcano experiment, feigning shock and fright if you can, then experiment with how changing the volcano design affects the explosion. Why not change the sequence of adding the ingredients or freeze these before adding? Finally, jazz up painting by creating fizzy paint, with you guessed it, food colouring, vinegar and bicarbonate of soda!
Quality time Quality time with parents, particularly male role models
a rare commodity, activities like these are deliciously enriching and fun. From rough and tumble, to running about, fishing or cycling to car spotting, tinkering with an engine to the world of science it’s plain to see that it’s not just children who love the chance to play. Play is all about the process and experimenting with vinegar explosions or papier Mache, the process of play and fun was apparent. Whatever your plans this Father’s Day, make sure you make time for Dad’s to play!

Saturday DIY Project – Ladder Shelving
Plant
of the month
GOLDEN MARGUERITE These wonderful flowers bloom in late spring/early summer and their appearance is definitely a sign summer is here. With their bright yellow petals and centres (considered to be shaped very similar to daisies) and foliage of a feathery silver, they are such a vibrant, refreshing welcome into summer. Relatively low maintenance, the Golden Marguerite requires welldrained soil and thrives in lots of sunlight. They are very often used for garden borders and make a lovely addition to any garden.
These shelves are great in a garage, to display plants/herbs in the garden or to give an industrial feel to an office.
SMART S
You will need: ❖ 2 sets of step ladders ❖ 5 wooden shelves (varying sizes can look great going from smallest at the top to largest at the bottom) ❖ 20 u shaped brackets and screws ❖ Drill
HELVES
You can paint the shelves and/or the ladders to match your colour schemes.

The French-made Renault Kadjar is one rung higher up the greasy pole than many of its competitors.
Y
ou see, there are lots of Qashqai clones on the market, but the Kadjar genuinely shares the popular Nissan’s platform and power units. What’s more, the car is cheaper to buy than the fashionable Qashqai and has that extra sprinkling of French flair. The front-wheel-drive 1.6 dCi 130 Signature Nav, on test here, is impressive. The turbo-charged oil-burner starts out fairly meekly, but then things under the bonnet hot up, resulting in plenty of mid-range pull. This is satisfying because it means you don’t need to work the gears hard to utilise the clout on tap. Push the Renault into twisty country lanes and the car stays bonded to the tarmac. There’s a little bit of body roll noticeable, but it never disturbs ride comfort. In fact, the Kadjar arouses confidence in this sort of driving environment due to its consistently wellweighted steering. The brakes are excellent, although their urgency takes you by surprise on occasion. However, a capacity for quickly scrubbing-off-speed is no bad thing. The gearshift-action is a little heavy,, and some diesel-din sneaks into the interior when the whip is cracked, but this Renault is not the sort of car bought by out-and-out driving enthusiasts. Unsurprisingly then, the Kadjar is comfy for a family-of-four and handles scarred, 26 | SIMPLY BOSTON | www.simplyboston.co.uk
“Definitely more important than cabin toys, is a car’s safety prowess. And the Kadjar has layer upon layer of kit to keep you protected”. urban road surfaces well, due to its nicelycushioned suspension set-up. The boot is better than the Qashqai’s, in terms of load space, and it has the same ingenious flooring that can be elevated, dropped, or used as a partition to keep your possessions from tumbling about. Indeed, the Kadjar is a pleasant place to be, due, in no small part, to it having one of finest cabin’s in its class. From a tech point of view, the glass is just as full. The sat-nav system is a doddle and – in this flagship model – the car comes fully loaded with a top-quality Bose sound system, Bluetooth,

Price: £24,795 faux leather upholstery, and a panoramic sunroof. Definitely more important than cabin toys, is a car’s safety prowess. And the Kadjar has layer upon layer of kit to keep you protected. Equipment includes traffic sign recognition, lane-departure assist and even parking sensors at the front and the rear of the car. As mentioned, the Signature Nav is the top of the tree model, so unless you really need all the trimmings, you’ll enjoy the Kadjar just as much in its slightly lowerdown-the ladder ‘Dynamique’ guise. The car is still well-appointed and represents excellent value for money, whether bought outright on a PCP finance deal. To be honest, it’s hard to justify buying a Nissan Qashqai now that the Kadjar is on the scene. The car is good-looking, it’s great to drive, it has a bigger boot and its price-tag is lower. Unless you’re desperate to have the Qashqai moniker ornamenting your drive, save yourself some cash and go for the French marque instead.
